Why You Want Better But Never Get There (It’s Not Motivation)

Treveal C.W. Lynch Season 10 Episode 201

Text Me Your Questions & I'll Answer In Next Ep!

Are you struggling to be consistent and disciplined enough to finish what you start?

I hear people say it all the time, "I want to become a ....." or "I want to have a....." or "I want to be more..." and sadly, most will consistently find a way to fail, not because they're not motivated, but because they're not aware of the things I share in this video.

In this all new episode of the iAMthepossible Podcast Experience, I breakdown what actually makes your goals attainable—because (wanting better for yourself) isn’t the problem… not understanding what make “doing better for yourself” possible, — is.

First you'll learn the 2 hidden "engines" driving every result you’ve been getting.

The good news? Both can be changed—and when they change, everything changes.

Lastly,  I give you the key to accessing the kind of clarity and confidence that lasts—so you can stop living under demand and start living on design!

Yo, yo, yo check, check. Is this thing on? Yes, I know that it is. ⁓ my goodness. Yes. Welcome. Welcome once again. You know what it is. You know where you is. Yes, it is where it is. What you have been waiting for. We are back, baby. Welcome into the I am the possible.

podcast experience. Yes, this is the place where possibilities become perspective. Guys, welcome into the space and into the place I is your host, Trevail C. W. Lynch, Mr. What What, and I help people to discover what makes what they want possible.

Guys, welcome into the new season, welcome into the new space, into the new place, into the next level. Welcome into an opportunity for you to be able to discover what makes what you want possible. I hear all the time, I want to do this, I want to do this, I want to do that, I want to do that, I want to have this, I want to have that. I hear a lot of wanting.

But what I don't see enough of is people understanding what makes those dreams, what makes those goals, what makes those desires attainable. I see so many people wanting better, but not understanding what makes better possible for them. And so guys, what better way to kick off this new season? What better way?

to kick off this episode, then to share with you what has gotten me where I is and where I is going, what's taking me there. I have full confidence that the things that I'm about to share with you are going to be of such great value. It's transformational, transformational.

It is truly something that will take you from where you are to where you want to be if you apply it. If you apply it. My four A's guys right out the gate. I'm about to give you some value. Everything I believe, my philosophy, right? Cause that's my job is to be a philosopher. My job is to be a creator. My job is to be the godlikeness.

that I've been uniquely shaped and created to be. I am to be on display, to be something that inspires, something that motivates, something that energizes other God-like images to then create as they've been created. And so a part of my four-step process, or not a part of, but my four-step process, here it is. Awareness, become aware.

of what it is that you need to become aware of. Appreciation, right? So once you become aware of something, appreciate it, see the value in it, look for the value, look for the worth. Number three, alignment. Align your thinking, your speaking, and your doing to that thing that you become aware of and to that thing that you've grown in your appreciation of. And then number four, application. Apply daily habits.

to those awarenesses, appreciations, and those things that you are aligned with. Daily habits, just daily practices over and over and over. And those four things, they transform your life. So today, more specifically, I wanna talk about what got me podcasting, we'll do that really quickly, as a backdrop. And then I'm gonna share a scripture.

that's get this, I'm going to share it out of context, okay? On purpose, but stick with me, right? It's going to all make sense in just a moment. And then I want to share an idea, a perspective about something that I think is going to radically improve the way you approach this new year, your life, relationships, most importantly, the relationship that you have with yourself. Because again, for me, my thing is,

I see a lot of good people wanting good things and wanting to do good things, but these good people are unaware of what makes that possible for them. In other words, they're not taught as many of us were never, right? Never taught. Not taught how the thing works, how to get from point A to point B. Not just your traditional mass marketing.

perspective, meaning like what most people talk about. But it's those inner things, those parts of us that we've never been exposed to, never been educated about. That's my wheelhouse. That's my bread and butter. That's where I want to spend my time in this podcasting space. All right? So ⁓ I got started with podcasting because I had a lot to say.

had a lot to say, now stick with me, this is all gonna tie together. Because I had things that were in my heart and because I'm a pastor, I'm a pastor on staff, an associate pastor. There's only so many slots. There's only so many opportunities for me to get up and preach. And so there's only so many classes at church I can give or there's so many small groups that I can facilitate, whatever it is.

There's a finite number of opportunities to preach or to speak from the stage. Even, or even when I start to grow and expand in my speaking business, there's still only so many stages, but I discovered in podcasting that it's unlimited. Like I could literally cut the camera on whenever I feel like it. And I can share from the heart.

scripted or unscripted. And I can record that and I can upload that, whether it's through the audio, visual or both. So I started my podcasting journey because I had a lot to share and I had a passion for educating and teaching people how to feel better about themselves, how to learn more about themselves, how, you know, how we work as individuals.

And I just wanted to equip and just empower people to do better in life, right? To succeed, personal growth, personal development, the self-help space. So that's what got me started. Podcasting gave me a opportunity, a platform, a place where I could share unlimited content, right? It let me get my creative juices flowing and I could create podcasts, episodes, however I wanted to create them.

I could do them from my living room like I'm doing right now. I could do them on location. It didn't matter. There's no limitations to how we podcast. So that's what got me started. Now, why am I sharing this with you? Because today I want to talk about the thing that's giving you life, the thing that is foundational for you in terms of I want

X, Y, Z, but I don't know what makes X, and Z possible for me. Now there's many things that make it possible, but ultimately, and this is where I specialize, ultimately is gonna come down to the relationship that you have with yourself. The self-concept and the self-conversation. Concept, conversation. Concept, the things you see in yourself.

conversation, the things you say to yourself, those two things determine what you are able to create for yourself and those around you. The concept and the conversation are the most important and influential energies in a person's life.

They will either energize you and fuel you to go further, or they will either suck you of energy, stagnate growth. They will hit the red light on your path and journey, ⁓ or they'll become the green light, right, on your path and your journey. The concept, the conversation either tells you yes, you may proceed, or no, you'll never get there. It is a inner...

dialogue, a inner work that is always working. It doesn't take a break. It doesn't take time off. It doesn't go on vacation. It's always happening as we say in the background or at the subconscious level. Now this is not what I wanted to completely share with you today. I just want to lay some foundational

bricks, if you will, right? Something to stand on because ultimately, no matter what concepts I share, frameworks I share, no matter what coaching I do, it's gonna always come back to how do you see yourself? What do you say to yourself most consistently? Those things will determine what you are and are not able to create in your life.

Here's the good news. This is what's super duper dope. I just can't wait to say it again. Cause I say it all the time. I just can't wait to say it again. Here it is. This is what's here. Here's the good news. The concept can be changed. ⁓ The conversation can be changed. That's right. That's right. You got a poor self image, a poor self concept. You can change it.

You got a poor self conversation going on, a poor self dialogue going on, ha, you can change it. That's what's dope about it. If you don't like the one you got, change it. You don't like the one you're working with, change it, rearrange it, reframe it, rename it. Woo, you can do it over again. We can revisit your concept and your conversation whenever you want to. Change them, rearrange them, and go at life again.

Now, that's some pretty dope news. I could say, la vista, and I could say, see you tomorrow, and I could say, that's it. Wrap it up, shut the lights off. I could wrap this whole episode up right there, because that's good enough news in and of itself. Obviously, you need to learn how to, right? But I mean, that's good enough news in and of itself. Look, before I go on, I gotta tell you how dope what I just shared with you really is. Dude.

everything in life, everything that you're creating up until this point. If you've created a life that you can't stand. Now I do not want to go all the way back in history and in time in this particular episode. I've got other episodes where we'll do more of a deep dive and we'll get in there. Right. But in a nutshell, to this point, if you love the life you have is because there's a concept of you in you.

And there's a conversation that you're having with you, in you, that allows you to create that life. And if you have a life that sucks, a life you don't like, you can't stand your life, you're like, my God, what is happening here? If that's you, it's because you have a concept of yourself and you're having a conversation with yourself that's telling you, this is the only kind of life I can have.

It's with you and your spouse. It's with you and your children. It's with you and your coworkers. It's with you and your boss. It's with you and God. Hey, it's with you and God. Because the Lord, the Bible, hey, you can read that Bible. Listen, have you ever read that Bible? And it told you how good you are. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. I knew you in your mother's womb even before you. And you still feel like garbage. hmm. You are a city on a hill.

Right? know, let your light so shine, right? And then you, you, you still feel like crap. Yeah. Because even with God, even with your creator, it doesn't matter what God says. doesn't matter what I say. It doesn't matter what your mom and them say. It don't matter what nobody say. The only thing that matters is you. If you have a concept of you that stinks, your life stinks because your concept, get this, the concept dictates the conversation. If I think I'm a piece of crap,

I'm going to have a conversation about me that aligns with the concept. My conversation has to align with the concept at the deepest level. You can do affirmations, pretending like you like yourself, like you love yourself, but you really don't. Your subconscious ain't really on that. Your subconscious says, no, no, no, no. I know what you really think. I know what you really feel and what you really think and what you really feel about you. That's what I'm going to produce. That's what I'm going to bring about. That's what I'm going to.

use as creative fuel and creative energy to continue to bring about circumstances and conditions in your life. Your conditions and your circumstances are aligned with the dominant conversation that you are having within yourself that is determined by the dominant concept that you have of yourself. So I just really wanted to break down how

Dope what I just told you really is because if you can master, if you can begin to master even 1%, the concept that you have of yourself and the conversation therefore that you're having with yourself, everything changes. It's a complete game changer. And in subsequent episodes and in past episodes, you can go back into archives. I've been teaching on this for years. I can show you how.

I can teach you how to change the concept and to change the conversation that you're having with yourself. Yeah. What you, what, what, Mr. What, what, what you see in yourself, what you say to yourself determines what, maybe I should be called what, what, what determines what you are able to create for yourself and most importantly, those around you. Okay. So now that we got that out the way.

Here's what I really wanna talk about today. It's two V's, two words. Vocation and vision. Vocation and vision. Now remember earlier, I told you that I'm gonna use a scripture out of context. I once read the context of this particular scripture and I forgot. I forgot what the context was. I don't think it's that important because you've got chat GPT like I do. You've got Google, you've got Siri, you've got... ⁓

You got your Bible, you got concordance, you got dictionaries, you got the Bible app. Have at it, man. Go find the context. Go find what this scripture really means. Okay. But I'm going to use it out of context because even out of context, the words in and of themselves hold such great weight and it, and it's applicable to what I want to share today. Now, disclaimer for all my Christian folks, all my fanatics.

I am not, hear me clear, I am not, I'll say it again, I am not saying that this scripture means this. I'm not doing that. And you may be saying, well, why are you using it anyway then? I'm using it because the words in and of themselves make a gang of sense. So please, I'm not saying the Bible says, God says, thus saith the Lord. I'm not saying that.

I'm saying just like I would read any other book, if a sentence in any other book, just the words, the literal words made sense and helped to illustrate a great point that ultimately aligns with God's will for your life. I feel like I can use that. And I feel like if I gave you this, this disclaimer that I just gave you, I think we're good. All right. So if you're still rocking with me, you ain't cut me off. You ain't called me a heretic. You ain't judged me. You ain't.

threw me in the trash and whatever. Then, cool, here we go. This scripture, powerful, powerful, It says that the people, they perish for a lack of a vision. The people cast off all restraints because they ain't got no vision. Where there is no vision, there is no restraints. There is no

Discipline there is no incentive for you to Essentially straighten up Protect your life watch over yourself guard yourself The Bible talks about guarding your heart with all diligence above everything else guard your heart for the life Force flows from it the well springs of life flow from the heart. So protect your heart like a guard

Guys, where there is no vision, you have no incentive to really do anything, to protect yourself, to do the work of aligning your thoughts, your words, your actions, because a vision is always something that's in the future. If you don't have a vision for your life, what are you working so hard for? If you don't have a vision for your life, why do you really care?

That's why you see people that are homeless, helpless, hopeless, right? They just don't have any, they don't have any zeal, any passion. They have a lack of a sense of purpose because they don't have a vision. There's nothing in front of them. There's nothing to work toward. They're not goal oriented. They're not doing very much of anything because vision incentivizes you.

I was just out grilling last night. Those of you who don't know, I am a jerk chicken enthusiast. And if you need some dope jerk chicken, I will say I about to offer my services, but I would have to come at a premium. All right, so I'm not gonna offer that right now, but I can make some pretty dope jerk chicken.

My family loves it. When it's time to barbecue, they always have me cook the jerk chicken. I have a special process that I go by. I make super, super hot. I make regular hot, medium. ⁓ I do my jerk chicken thing. So anyway, enough about that, right? So anyway, yesterday, ⁓ was whipping up some jerk chicken yesterday. And I decided to take some pictures and send it to my father and to my three sisters out in the shy, where...

looking to do a birthday get together out here in Cali later on this year. And so I just took the videos and I sent it because I know out in Chicago, my hometown, I know it is freezing and it's snowing, but out here in Cali, are, you know, clear skies. I don't know if it's like 80, 90 degrees. And I was out barbecuing yesterday by the pool. And so I was just teasing them.

Like, hey, here's some incentive for you guys to get your butt out here to the West Coast, right? Just having fun. And they sent me back a video of Chicago covered in snow. And so my point to this is I was incentivizing them. I was showing them a picture of what's possible. Did you catch it? I was giving them a picture of what was possible. I was helping them to see what was possible.

out here on the West Coast in the middle of January. They're stuck in the Midwest, know, frozen tundra type stuff, right? Green Bay-ish type stuff. And so it was a incentive. In the same way, vision gives us an incentive. It incentivizes us. My sister texts me back and she was like, that's not godly, man of God. That's not, that's not.

That's not of God to be teasing us and to be making fun of us. I say, well, actually it's very godly, ⁓ such as in the case of Jesus coming along the lake shore and speaking to the disciples, hey, drop what you got going on. Come, follow me and I'll make you fishers of men. Right? Right? That was a incentive. Like stop your version of fishing.

If you follow me, I'm going to teach you how to fish in a whole new way. He was incentivizing them. And in the same way, visions incentivize us, gives us something to work for, keeps the engine going, right? When we want to sputter and putter out, keeps us fueled and motivated when we want to give up. The incentive, ooh, I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Ooh, I see the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Ooh, the incentive.

With those of us who don't have a vision, we don't have a incentive. So we tend to be more likely, more prone to, precondition to do drugs, alcoholism, ⁓ getting into just self-destructive behavior. I speak upon these things because I've done them all.

whether it was drugs, whether it was alcohol, whether it was pornography, whether it was violence, whether it was criminal activity, I've done it all. And when I was doing it all and not caring if I lived or died, it was because I didn't have a vision. I didn't have a vision at that time. When I was 18, the only thing that even resembled a vision.

was I remember sitting in the basement with my boys, Wolf Pack, back in Toledo. That's where I was raised. I was born in the Chi, but I was raised in Toledo. And I remember being down in the basement, we was smoking weed. That's where we had a little studio. And I remember saying to myself, I might've said it to some of them as well, but I said, all I want to do is smoke weed and make beats. Like that was the extent of my vision. All I want to do is smoke weed and make beats. That's as far as I could see.

And, you know, I could make a beat every day. I could smoke weed every day. So I wasn't protecting myself. I wasn't guarding my heart. I wasn't caring anything about anything or anyone because I didn't have a vision. So why do I want to share this vision vocation? Because one of the things that helps make what we want possible

is by establishing a vision for our lives, but more importantly, a vision that aligns with our vocation. A vision that aligns with our vocation. Sometimes you can have a vision for your life. And I want you to lean in on this one. Sometimes you can have a vision for your life that's not your vision and does not align with your

vocation, nor does it align with your values. And when you have a vision that doesn't align with your vocation or with your values, it's void of your voice. And what I've learned is where you don't have a voice, you don't have a lot of incentive to go through the difficult things that you must go through.

to see your goals and dreams accomplished. So it is this alignment of establishing a vision that is aligned with your specific vocation that is built upon your values and that allows you to have voice. You ever been in a relationship and you didn't feel like you had a voice? Like every time you would bring something up,

The other person would just discredit it. Talk over you, barely listen to you, never take any of your ideas into consideration, never make any decisions based upon anything that you shared. You started to feel a little worthless. Like, why am I even here? You're not listening to me. You're not giving me any validation. I'm not experiencing a sense of dignity. I'm just, I'm just here.

So why should I stay here? And you lost interest, you lost love, you lost connection, and you found a way to disconnect from that person or from that environment. The same is true in life. If your vision, your so-called vision, if it doesn't speak to your vacation, to your vocation, to your vocation, well, it's funny that I slipped on vacation, because when your vision aligns with your vocation, which aligns with your values, which align with

your voice, work starts to feel like a vacation. Like when I'm podcasting, this isn't work for me. I love doing this. I love podcasting. I love having conversations. I love sharing my life. I love learning about other people. I love having conversations about meaningful things. I love creating content with the hope that someone might come across this one day and gain something from it and allow. ⁓

allow themselves and give themselves permission to dream again and to hope again and to believe in themselves again. I love that prospect. I love that perspective. I love that ability to be involved in life, to be able to say something, communicate something, share an idea that someone may grab a hold of and just improve their lives by just a percent. Man, that's contribution. And I feel good about that because

a part of podcasting, right, or speaking or coaching, any form of communication for me, it's a part of the vision. It's a part of the vocation. It's a part of the value. And it gives me voice. And so I want you to think about it. Do I have a vision for my life? Like a real vision? There's something that I'm going to do.

or be or create or contribute to this world that's going to outlive me. Something so meaningful, something so important to you that you're willing to discipline yourself for. You're willing to ⁓ really discipline not only you, but like the things that you're involved in. Like you're not...

you're not allowing or you wouldn't be willing to allow yourself to indulge in certain things or to entertain certain things or to tolerate certain things because you're guarding your heart and you're guarding your mind and you're guarding your path to such a degree. And I know that might sound like work and that might sound pretty hard, but I promise you it's the sacrifice that you will want to make because you'll have that

you know, pot of gold at the end of your rainbow. You'll have that light at the end of your tunnel. You'll have that incentive, right? And so let's break these three things down. Vocation, what is vocation? Vocation is really a work, a kind of activity that really speaks to your essence. It speaks to how God designed you.

You're no longer just doing things haphazardly. You're not just flippantly choosing things to do or to occupy your time with. But your vocation is the kind of work that gives you life. It's the kind of work while sure, you need to be responsible. You need to pay bills. You have children pay for you. You know, sure. But a vocation is something you would do for free. Like if you didn't have to do it for pay, like it would be something that you would do for free.

And some people do do it for free, right? ⁓ But it's something that gives you life. My favorite quote, and why not share it on my new season episode. Christian Mystic, Howard Thurman, my favorite quote in all the world. He says, don't ask what the world needs. Ask what gives you life, what makes you come alive and go do it.

Because what the world needs is people who have come alive. That's what the world needs. So vocation is what makes you come alive. Vocation is a kind of work that gives you life. It pays you as you're participating. The compensation is simply in the participation.

of the thing. And so again, for me, it's like podcasting. I'm getting paid literally in real time with every word I share. being paid. I'm being compensated because I love what I do. Now I'm playing with house money here. I don't lose cause now everything else on top, the connections I make, the, the, the reach, the downloads, the influence, the, the whatever, right.

the good energy I put out into the world, whatever it is, like everything is icing on the cake now because I've already won because I'm a part of my vocation. ⁓ I'm engaging in my vocation based work. When I preach vocation, when I teach vocation, when I share, when I facilitate, when I communicate, vocation, it's all life giving for me. So what is it for you? What is that activity that gives you life, man? That truly gives you life.

And yeah, it does look like a career. It does look like work. It does look like a job, perhaps. You know how you can go to a job, maybe you're in corporate America or you're in some other kind of industry. And some of the people there, it's like Monday morning, man, walking through the door. It's like they got a weight on their shoulders. it's Monday, blah, blah. Go get my cup of coffee. Yeah, here we go again. Other people.

You say good morning to him. Hey, how you doing? Good morning. Top of the morning, buddy. Hey now, right? It's the same job. How come one is like, yeah, man, top of the morning. And the other one is like, here we go again.

Mm-hmm. I'm not saying that that's always the case, that it's their vocation, but it's way more likely, right, that it has something to do with their vocation. All right. And I'm going to give some, I'm going to give you some information down below in the description to kind of help you out with this. And obviously I provide one-on-one ⁓ and group coaching. So if anyone's out there listening or would like to bring me in for one-on-one coaching or for group coaching, I am available. And there's some links down below that you can click.

And you can book some time with me and we can have that conversation and see if we can work together. Cause all of these things take a little more unpacking than I'm able to do here on the actual podcast episode. But ultimately I just wanted to bring you into a space of awareness around the importance of vocation because not many people have even heard that word or know what the heck it means. so, ⁓ vocation comes from the literal word of voice. That's why it's a full circle thing.

vocation aligns with our values, values align with giving us a voice. And so the word vocation actually comes from the word voice or to give voice to. And so it's that little voice that's within you that sometimes gets oppressed and depressed over time.

because of our traumatic experiences in life. So a lot of times we never find our vocation because it's been so suppressed by the things that we've been exposed to and the things that have happened to us. So we don't really ever learn to give ourselves license to give ourselves a voice. And that's why I love doing what I do because that's what I see myself doing, helping people to get that voice back, all right, by learning, right, what they are, right?

learning how to change that concept and to change those conversations. But again, my point today is I want to encourage you and I want to just exhort you to think about your vision and to consider what your vision is. If you have one, you can always revisit it. Or if you've never written one down, you know, I'm Mr. Journal Man. always writing and journaling. If you don't have a vision,

then I want you to consider praying about it if you are a person of faith and really taking some time to pull away from the noise of life and to really think it through and to really process it. Man, what is my vision? What is it that I want to do with my life with the time that I have left? Right? Always, always fast forward to the death bed, right? Always go to the death bed. If I was...

laying in the bed and I was near end of life, what would matter to me? What would I regret never having done? What would I regret never having said?

Act like you're on your deathbed. Close your eyes for a few minutes every day and pretend like you're on your deathbed. See what comes up for you. What would I want to have done with my life? What would I have wanted to say? Where would I have wanted to go? What would I have wanted to do? Yeah. Then open your eyes and go do it.

Go do something that aligns with it. Take the next logical step toward those things. But again, down below, I'm gonna break down some resources for you to get more information around what your vocation is and how to identify what your vocation is, okay? So that your vision can align with that vocation. And again, it's all about values as well.

What do you value? What's meaningful for you? What matters to you? Many of us are living under demand versus living on design. We live on under demand, right? Other people's demand. This person is demanding this. That person is demanding that. That person wants this from me. That person needs that from me. I need to go over here and do this. I need to go over here and do that. And at the end of the day, you are exhausted and you're worn out because you're living

under demand. You're always in survival mode. You're always worn out and stressed out and overwhelmed while feeling overlooked because you want to be seen as a person, but you feel like people just want you for what you can do for them. And you're living under that demand and it's crushing you. Well, what we're talking about today is how to live on design.

How did my creator design me? What were the very specific things, including vocation that God gave me? What assignment am I truly to be about? Right? Then you can start to say no to some of those things because those things, they're someone else's vision. They're someone else's to-do list. They're someone else's emergency.

They're not yours. So I don't want to go down that path because that's a whole episode all to itself. But I hope and pray that you guys get my heart on this one. All right. So, yeah, man, vision is important. Vision is one of those things that, like I said, I'm here to help people, man, to discover what makes what they want possible. But one of those things is a vision.

built on vocation, built on values that give you a voice. You deserve your voice to be heard. Yeah. To not just be kicked around, thrown around, tossed around like a ragdoll by life and circumstances. Nope. You deserve dignity.

Well, rather you deserve a sense of your dignity. It's there, but you have to give it to yourself. And you deserve direction for your life. You deserve to know where you're going. Yeah. And what's going to help you to get there. So I hope and pray that in some way this has helped. This has added some value. All right. Please, please, please ⁓ comment below. Drop a comment. Let me know what worked, what helped you out, what stuck out.

Question based episode. I'm going to create an episode just for you. I don't know who you are They don't give me your name and number. They don't give me all the information They just give me the question and I'm going to begin to as for as many that come in, right? If no one sends in a question I have nothing to create around that question But if someone has a question you send your question in I'm going to get that question and the very next week I'm going to call out your question and I'm going to answer your question

as an episode here in the I Am The Possible universe. All right? I care that much. I love you that much. I'm believing in you that much. And I am praying for you that much as well. So I'm not only going to answer the questions, but I'm going to add you to my prayer list and I'm going to continuously pray for greater and greater revelation. All right? So that's it, man.
