Treveal C.W. Lynch (00:00)
Hey guys, welcome once again into the I Am The Possible podcast experience. Yes, this is the place where possibilities become perspective. Guys, today we're going to be talking about that very thing, perspective and the power of perspective.

More specifically, we're gonna be talking about how we gain a greater perspective through, I think, my favorite topic, prayer. I don't know if you guys know, a few years ago, I actually wrote a book, a step-by-step guide on cultivating confidence in prayer. You can still pick it up, right? Shameless plug. ⁓ But I've always had a passion for prayer, a passion for, as I like to say, getting to God.

before the world gets to you. I shared a few weeks ago on a YouTube video how my favorite passage in all the Bible, Mark 1.35, Jesus gets up early in the morning, leaves the house, goes to a solitary place where he prays. Simon and his companions, they come looking for him. And when they found him, they exclaimed, hey, everyone is looking for you.

Jesus's response, and I love this response, let us go from here into the nearby towns and villages that I may preach there also for this is why I've come. I just love that verse, that scripture, that story. It speaks to me. It illustrates. It serves as an example to me of what I want to be. Someone who

gets to God before the world gets to them. I wanna be that kind of person like Jesus that was disciplined enough to get up early, right? Rising before the sun rises, making God priority, making creator priority, time with creator priority, time with God priority. And there must have been some powerful exchange, right? There must have been some powerful exchange between Jesus

and God because.

Simon and the companions and the urgency of life, the 911 of life, it didn't rattle Jesus. Jesus didn't even address it. He says, man, let us go from here, from where we are now, let us leave this place and go into the nearby towns and villages so I can preach there also. Let us go from here to there. That speaks of direction, that I may preach there also, right?

That speaks of a decision. I've decided that I'm gonna live my life on purpose and I've decided on what my purpose is. I'm gonna preach there also, right? ⁓ And then just that declaration, right? For this is why I've come. It speaks of an alignment of purpose and meaning for one's life. And I believe this is my, this is...

Right? What I've come to believe that passage to illustrate, at least for me, is that through our time with God, through prayer, we are able to gain a perspective about ourselves, about life, about others, about destiny, about direction, about decision-making, about even what it is that we are to declare

right, the use of our words. It says so much to me. And today I wanna share a very practical story that I think helps to illustrate the power of prayer as it directly relates to the power of perspective. So if you are someone today that is in need of a change of perspective,

Maybe you are in a situation right now that it seems hopeless. It seems like there's no way out. It seems like you're stuck. It seems like, man, people aren't showing up, God's not showing up. Like, what's happening? How do I move from here to there? How do I gain direction? How do I gain a decision about how to move forward that I'm comfortable with, that I'm confident in?

If you're asking any of these questions, I believe that through leveraging prayer, not using God, but in a sense, using your relationship with God, using your connection with the greater power, the source of all life, I think God doesn't take offense to that.

I think God wants us to use and leverage all of the vast resources that we have, that we have access to, in and through our relationship with God, with our Creator. I believe, like, if I had a million dollars in the bank, right, just as an example, and my kids were in need of something, I would want them to feel comfortable coming to me saying,

Hey, I'm in need of this, right? And obviously there's so many different ways that you can read into it and make your kids responsible, make them work for it, blah, blah. I get it, but just stick with me. A loving father having an abundance of resources and my child is in need and my child says, I need this.

I'm gonna be responsible, I'm gonna work hard, I'm gonna get myself together. But I need to tap into your resources in order to keep going. know, sometimes we just need to pick me up. Sometimes we just need someone or something to help us get through the day. They don't need to solve all of our problems. They don't need to turn our life upside down. They just need to help us get through today.

If I can just get through today, if I could just get on the other side of today, and that might be where you are, you're just in need of getting through today, then I wanna share this story with you guys that I think will encourage, educate, empower, and help you to elevate your idea, I believe, even of prayer, okay? So let's get into it.

So the other day I was on my way to Long Beach and I'm on the freeway. so ⁓ traffic is going fine. All of a sudden traffic comes to a stop. And you know how you get into that gridlock traffic and ⁓ maybe someone, ⁓ I don't know, got into an accident and you know, hey, in a few minutes we'll...

we'll move forward. Or hey, you know, maybe the construction people are doing something and we'll move on in just a moment. But then after waiting for a few minutes, those minutes turned into five to 10 minutes and now you're, okay, what's going on here, right? It's starting to inch along, but you're getting antsy. And this is where I was, like, okay, I'm... ⁓

I'm waiting. Okay, we're itching along. Okay, I'm putting up with it. I'm trying to listen to an audio book. Okay, yeah. Try to put on some music. All right. But I think we all have this threshold where once we get to a certain amount of time, it's like, now we're waiting too long. It's time for something to happen. Either this traffic is going to open up or I'm going get off the freeway and take the streets. Or like I was thinking in this moment, I'm about to turn back around. I'm done.

So I was considering it just being done. Now I knew where I was going. So I didn't need my GPS system. I knew where I was going. But what I've learned from the past is that sometimes if I put the GPS on, I can get ⁓ a larger view sort of, okay, I can't see two or three X's down the road.

Maybe it's just an accident and it's on the next exit. And maybe once we get past this exit, things open up, right? So you start to kind of think that way. So sure enough, I opened up my GPS system. I put the address in and opened up the GPS. When I opened up the GPS, sure enough, it said red, right? The phone screen just showed, like it took up the whole screen. It was just a big red line, right? So boom, yep, you are in gridlock.

You ain't moving, you ain't going nowhere no time soon. However, the time that it said, from where I was to where I was going, it said 15 minutes. And I'm like, yo, this is all red, 15 minutes. I was kind of thinking to myself, like, what are you talking about? And then I remembered, you can pinch the screen. I don't know if you guys have ever done this or not, but.

if you're holding your phone or even if it's, know, and it should be locked on the little magnet there by your vents in your car. But if you pinch the screen, it allows you to zoom out and to see almost your entire journey. Actually, you can pinch it all the way out to where you can see from where you are on the freeway all the way to your destination. But sometimes you don't need that big of a

a screen, you just need enough to be able to see a little further along down the road. Well, I did that. And it went from red to just a few exits up, show yellow, and then a few, maybe a few yards, and then it showed green the rest of the way, or whatever color it is. I think it's blue or something like that, whatever it is. It's a, you know, to where there's no traffic, basically, whatever that color is.

And I thought to myself, okay, I'll keep going. I was on the verge of getting over to that far right shoulder lane, getting off that next exit, man, and turning my butt around and going back home because I was like, I'm just not in the mood to sit in this traffic. I'm just not gonna make it today. I'm just not gonna get there today. Until...

I opened up the GPS system until I got a new, here it is, perspective of what the full trip looked like. And sometimes in life, all we have is the view of sitting in the car. Because when I'm sitting in that car, all I can see is about five or six cars in front of me. I can...

try to move around and kind of duck my head out the window a little bit or try to sit up higher in my chair to kind of see further down the road. But for as far as you can see, there's only so much you can see. And for all you see is red lights, man. That's it. So your mind starts to say, I'm stuck, gridlock, we're not moving. We're certainly not moving fast enough. Abort mission, abort mission. I'm turning, I'm about to go back.

But then when I opened up the GPS system, it gave me a greater perspective. It basically communicated to me. It revealed to me, hey, you are stuck right now. Yes, it is going very slow right now. But if you hold on just a little longer, you'll get to the yellow. And if you can get to the yellow, if you hold on for just a few more yards,

Boom, it's gonna open wide open for you and you're be able to get back to that 65 miles an hour, 75 miles an hour, whatever it is, boom, and you'll get to your place within 15 minutes. It revealed to me you are only 15 minutes away from your destination, even though it appears by your current perspective that you are stuck and you ain't moving and God knows how long it's gonna take you to get to where you're going. The same is true in life.

Prayer becomes the GPS system. Prayer gives you and I a perspective on things that we otherwise would not be able to tap into without it. Just sitting in my car, my two eyeballs in my head can only allow me to see so far. I am limited. These eyeballs, these optics,

They are limited, even with my glasses on, right? I am limited in what I am able to see. I am limited in the distance in which I am able to perceive. But with the GPS system, who's tied to the satellites, that's why. Because GPS systems are in the sky. They're like tapped into a satellite. You ever do those Google searches where you can like put in someone's address and it like actually shows you?

the house, the street, people's cars on the street, that's because we're dealing with satellites now. Well, where are the satellites? They're thousands of miles or feet in the air. I don't know what the calculations are, but they're out of this atmosphere. And they're able to, with those lenses, zoom in from an aerial view and take pictures and transfer, transmit these pictures.

of a person's home or a business, an establishment, a street, right? It's so fascinating. It's so powerful, but it's because of where the GPS systems are hooked up. Your phone, I'm sitting on the 605 freeway. The phone is in my car, but it is connected to something that's transmitting a signal that is far beyond this atmosphere.

It breaks the barriers. It goes beyond the limitations of where I am. My God, I'm preaching right now. As they say, I feel the Holy Ghost. Hey, glory. I feel the Holy Ghost. Right? Come on. You already know where I'm going with this. This is what prayer does, people. This is what prayer does. I was blessed with this revelation as I'm driving. And maybe you've heard something similar to this or not, but maybe you just needed to hear it again.

pray, we're tapping into a source. We're transmitting a signal that goes beyond the barriers of the car, of the situation, of the circumstances, of where we are. ⁓ my goodness. And prayer is able to, just as the GPS was able to, reveal to us the full picture. The full picture. It says, hey, yes, you are where you are.

That's real, that's facts as we say. Hashtag facts, you are there, but you ain't gotta stay there. Yet, there is hope. A few more exits. There is the light at the end of the tunnel. There is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. There is hope, there is light. Stick with it, stay the course. Endure a few more minutes, a few more minutes, a few more minutes. And sometimes,

The prayer just needs to get us through. Just like I was trying to get to where I was trying to get to, and I was about to abort the mission, the GPS was able to give me enough of a perspective to stay the course, to just stick it out, because things are about to open up. I'm not making any promises to you today.

I'm not telling you, hey, go pray and God's gonna make a way. It's gonna open up for you. I believe you will. I believe that the way has already been made. I do believe that you're gonna come out. I do believe that you're gonna make it through, but I'm not gonna try to like sell you some churchy, know, just go pray and you know, the light bulb is gonna come on and everything is gonna, no, but here's what I will say. Here's what I will say. If you go into prayer with the perspective

of receiving a new perspective on your situation, I do believe that by positioning yourself in that way, that you are able to gain from prayer, extract from prayer, whatever it is that you need to keep going. I do believe that. I do believe that. I'm careful the way I frame it because I never want to be guilty of

telling you what God is gonna do. Because I don't know what God is gonna do in your life. I do know this though, I do know that God is a source of all sufficiency. Whatever it is that you need, it's in God, it's in your relationship with God. And I do believe that prayer is the gateway. I do believe that prayer is the entry point, your relationship, your communication with

the Creator, with the Divine, with your God. I do believe that in and through that exchange, in and through that communication channel, that whatever it is that you need, you can get it. You can find it. But here is what I'm not gonna tell you, is that if you pray today, you're gonna get the answer today. That if you get on your knees and you say, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, that all of a sudden things are gonna just miraculously turn around. I'm not here to play those games with you.

But I am here to say with a sincere heart as one who's been walking with God for 26 years.

For me, what I've experienced is that when I pray with the belief, with the intention, with the mental position, that I'm going to receive a perspective about myself, God, others, situation, circumstances, issues, problems, challenges, Goliaths, whatever it is, devils, whatever I am facing.

good or bad, that when I hook up with God, I'm going to receive the kind of perspective that I need to address the situation the way I need to address it. I do believe that. I do believe that, 100%. I do believe that you find what you're looking for. When it plays out, how it plays out, hey, I am not here to play those games with you. I am not here to prophesy.

over you that in 20 days you're gonna get your breakthrough. If you just sow a seed of $10, hey, you're gonna get your break. That's not how I get down. That's not how I get down.

I do believe that as I was driving and I had this experience.

that I was given.

the revelation. I was given what I just shared with you. And I took note of it mentally, and I took note of it in my phone, and I said, wow, I wanna share that. I certainly wanna share that because that's what prayer has done for me over the last 26 years. It has worked just like that GPS system.

And so ⁓ I wanted to present that for whoever needed to hear it and for you to extract from it whatever you needed to extract from it. I hope and pray that it not only encourages and it educates and helps you to elevate your perspective on the perspective of prayer, but I pray that it would lend to revelations that you hold, personal revelations that no man

you know, can take away, that no circumstances can take away, something that God reveals to you that is going to be sacred to you, that you can hide in your heart and that will become an anchor for you in difficult seasons. That you don't just adopt what I say, but that you allow what I say to inspire something personal within you so that it becomes yours and you can hold on to that thing as you go forward.

And I hope and pray that that makes sense. All right? We can only do so much with the perspective that we have. Remember perspective, remember perspective is the red light, the green light of life. Depending on your perspective, you're gonna start or stop, right? It's gonna be a signal for you to go and proceed.

or it's gonna be a signal for you to stop and retreat, abort mission, just like it was in my life. I had that perspective of this traffic is too much, I'm outta here, until I tapped into something that could see from a different angle. Remember, perspective is how you look at a thing. Perception is how you believe you are seeing into a thing. It is...

It is the ability to see into a thing. Perception and perspective are two different things. Perception is seeing into, or at least what you think that you're seeing into, is the sensory mechanisms, is what you feel, is your surroundings, how you're interpreting your surroundings. And to you, that's truth. So it's how you look into a situation. It's how you read into a situation. That's perception. Perspective is how you look at.

a thing. It's an angle. It's a view. It's a worldview. It's a position that you take on a given thing, right? Because I was sitting in my car and I can only see so many cars in front of me. Now, if I was to tear the roof off my car, right, and my seat was to somehow raise up out of my car, well, because I'm changing my position,

I'm then changing my perspective and I'm able to then see further and I'm able to have a greater view, a greater understanding of things as they really are. But that's not reality. I'm not tearing off the roof. My seat is not being raised so that I can see further. No, but I do have this thing called a GPS. I do have this thing called my smartphone where I can put the address in, right?

and it can tap into the satellites that we've set up and it can show me those things that I shared with you earlier. And I just believe that that's the same.

that we can do the same with prayer. That when we get time with God, we get it in with God, we get to God before this world gets to us. And we say, God, give me a new perspective. me, elevate my view. Elevate my view. Let God know I can only see this. And this is discouraging. This is depressing. This is, this hurts my feelings. This, this

deflates me emotionally. This is overwhelming. This, I feel like giving up. I want to quit. I want to stop. This is too much. Tell God. And then say, God, you know what? I thank you. I thank you that I am in this relationship. I'm in this connection. I'm in this space and place with you called prayer.

Right? Prayer is like a place. God, thank you that I get to enter this place of prayer that elevates me, that allows me to see greater things, that allows me to see beyond where I am, beyond my current situation, beyond my current circumstances, beyond my current feelings. I'm able to acknowledge where I am, but acknowledge that there's about to be a break.

in things. Things are about to open up. Because I had to sit in that car and I still needed to endure 15 more minutes. I still needed to wait until the red ran out and it turned yellow and then wait till the yellow ran out until it opened up. I still needed to do those things. But boy boy, with the perspective I had, I was able to say, okay, cool. Because sometimes all we need is a, ⁓ there's hope. ⁓ okay, we're going to get through this. Sometimes that's all we need.

is the perspective to know, the reminder to know, yeah, we're gonna get through this, we good, okay, cool. When you know that the end is coming, when you know that things are about to turn around, when you know that there's a break in the suffering, you can suffer a little longer, you can endure a little longer, right? So let's keep praying, let's keep getting prayed up.

but if you haven't done so before, let's go into prayer with the perspective of gaining a perspective that has the power to move us a little further, a little further.

so that we will see be all that God has made possible for us. All right? I hope and pray that this has been a blessing to you, that it's encouraged you, educated you, and helped elevate you in every area of your life.
