Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®.
Jason Shelfer:Good morning.
Jana Shelfer:I'm Jana, I'm Jason and we are Living Lucky®. You are too. Music, music, music, music, music music.
Jana Shelfer:My whole life I've been drawn to music and the scientific research is proving that the music we listen to seeps into our unconscious mind and it helps us create our reality.
Jason Shelfer:Yes, yes, there's. I've seen more and more just notices about how the habits that we need to add into our lives yes and more and more. All those little habits, hacks, or the 10 habits that you should pick up for every single day have included listening to music tell y'all a little secret.
Jana Shelfer:It's not only the vibration of the instrumental part of the song, it's not only the lyrics of the song. It is the feeling and the emotion that it brings to your soul. It's what it emotes inside our bodies.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, I think it's a little bit of all of that because, there are so many songs that I was thinking I really like this song, I like the hook, I like the way it feels. Put it in the car when I'm going on starting my vacation. Yes, you know that feeling amplifier. And then you start listening to the lyrics and you're like oh crap, I didn't know that. The lyrics were like kind of self-destructive, angry, bitter, all this stuff about how life isn't fair and I need to escape it.
Jana Shelfer:I'm telling you, I can look back at my life and I've probably had 10, at least 10 favorite songs that have just spoken so deeply to my soul that I actually listened to them on repeat over and over and over.
Jason Shelfer:Have you ever had a song like that I just remember, like in high school, like ACDC Back in Black, okay.
Jason Shelfer:Like in that, that also in there, in a lot of Guns N' Roses songs. So there's, ok, like in that, also in there, and a lot of Guns N' Roses songs. So there's there. I don't know off the top of my head what those songs are, but I do know that when I go back and listen to the lyrics on several of the songs that I would listen to on repeat yes, and I'm talking like when we had records I would wear the record out. When we had tapes, I would wear the tapes out, me too.
Jason Shelfer:And recognizing now okay well, where was I in life at that point? Also what kept showing up in the future. And I'm not saying that music is the only thing that does this, but music creates kind of our thought patterns or it falls into that rhythm of ourselves and who we are and who we're becoming, and what we keep saying over and over and over again in our head is what we start creating in our worlds.
Jana Shelfer:Yes, and so have you heard of an earworm?
Jason Shelfer:Yes, where a?
Jana Shelfer:song gets stuck in your the banana song is an earworm.
Jason Shelfer:Yes, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring banana song, banana phone, banana phone.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, that's it, banana phone but there's also, I mean, other songs that get stuck in our yeah our minds and we sing them. We don't even realize it. One of them, for me, is let it go. Let it go and sometimes I'll just sing that, not even realizing what I'm singing, but something will be bothering me and I'll just be like, let it go.
Jason Shelfer:Let it go, cause I'm on my way to Mexico, and a lot of times we will make up our own words that fit our own life fit our own life? Yes, and then we real well. There's so many songs out there that we just make up the words to because that's what we think we hear.
Jana Shelfer:Okay, so what I really want to dive into today is that music speaks to our souls. It speaks on a level that we cannot see, we cannot we articulate the best. It's something we feel.
Jason Shelfer:You can definitely feel it, and we feel it deep, deep within. So so much, yeah, even when we're not thinking about it, there's something that music will speak to our soul, because we've told ourselves in the past that these songs speak to me.
Jana Shelfer:So this weekend, jason and I were in Tallahassee right now. We went out to this lake to water ski and because we were using someone else's boat, they didn't really want Tater, our dog, to be on the boat, so Tater stayed on the dock. I'm out skiing. All of a sudden, I look over and Tater is sprinting along the sidelines. I mean, she is being my best cheerleader ever and she's just running laps up and down, following me as I ski up and down this lake and if this is the first Living Lucky® episode that you've gotten, let me just fill you in on Tater.
Jason Shelfer:She's next month she'll be 18 years old. The temperature on friday was probably in the 90s.
Jana Shelfer:And she was sprinting.
Jason Shelfer:She was out there doing like 100 yard, 400 yard dashes.
Jana Shelfer:And it just brought such joy to my heart and I told Jason. I said it brought out the puppy in her as soon as we got in the car. I said it reminds me of this song that I used to listen to on repeat over and over in my car because I had a CD and for some reason this was an unexpected song on this CD.
Jason Shelfer:It was side B.
Jana Shelfer:So I decided to find that song Now. I had no idea how to even find that song or what the name of it was, so I started with AI. I started trying to sing lyrics that I remembered and next thing you know, it popped up on my phone. I'm like this is the song, Jason, and we listened to this song, and every lyric in this song has become my reality. It has become my reality. It's a song about dogs. It's a song about dogs being your cheerleader. It's a song about a dog being your best friend and following you everywhere. And at the time of my life when I was listening to this song over and over, I didn't even have a dog.
Jason Shelfer:It wasn't even on your radar.
Jana Shelfer:I was just lonely at college going gosh, if only I could have a puppy you know what I'm saying. And it's so weird to me I had this aha moment of wow. I listened to this song so much that it actually became my life. Yeah, and once I had that realization, I thought we what else is out there we can? Create what we're going to see next.
Jason Shelfer:That's why I like I'm a huge fan of, like the greatest showman, the trolls, like all these high energy, like and it's like I'm going to be positive and it it frustrates the hell out of some people my positivity.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, they. Some people call it toxic positivity, but that's not it.
Jason Shelfer:It's not it. It's like I choose to believe that the best thing will happen, and I would rather be disappointed in that than than choosing to believe that the worst thing is going to happen and be right all the time. You know what I'm saying, so let me just bring this to everyone's attention.
Jana Shelfer:When we realize the effect that music has on us, it amplifies, exemplifies what we're already feeling. Right, I mean, I've gone through a breakup before.
Jason Shelfer:Oh my God, me too.
Jana Shelfer:And next thing you know I'm like, Turn around, Find me the saddest song out there.
Jana Shelfer:Every now and then I get a little bit lonely I just want to draw up and cry.
Jana Shelfer:I never know how that's probably how Driving and Crying got the name of their band right and then, all of a sudden, you start creating more loneliness, more sadness in your life.
Jason Shelfer:It is basically running down the hallway of the feeling that you want to feel. Yes, and just like almost covering yourself up in it yes, it's a blanket of vibrational rhythm and knowing that you're not alone in it because someone is singing about it.
Jana Shelfer:Now there's also the opposite of that. When we go to a Tony Robbins conference, next thing you know, All I do is win, win, win, no matter what, what, what. Right and you're jumping up and down and it changes your state. It changes your state of being, it changes your energy.
Jason Shelfer:Which creates a new way of showing up.
Jana Shelfer:So, jason, and I have said many, many times, it's about the thoughts and beliefs that you have. It is about the feeling or the vibration that you are experiencing.
Jason Shelfer:Or creating.
Jana Shelfer:And then it's about the action you take. Yes, the combination of those three things. So more and more science is coming out that you should really put music into your daily routine and listen to at least six songs a day routine and listen to at least six songs a day and I suggest listen to songs of the reality you want to create, so big, and that's all it is is priming.
Jason Shelfer:I mean, if you think about music, I mean so back in, when the cavemen or Indians, like all the like, whenever people would start anything, even in before football games and stuff, there are jumping up and down the field, there's chanting, right there's. There's all this stuff about like getting in that state of what I want to be my next reality.
Jana Shelfer:Yes.
Jason Shelfer:Yes, Like going to war, the war cry, the war chants, like all of it. There's so much in just creating that feeling, that energy of what's about to happen next. And I think that's where a lot of times what we do is we grab an emotion that we're feeling at a time and say let me just blanket myself in this.
Jana Shelfer:But we can also grab an emotion of what we want to feel.
Jason Shelfer:And where we know our best self lies Is when you start creating your reality.
Jana Shelfer:So, for example, I have this world championship ski tournament coming up in 80 days, 80. And I have realized, as of this morning, I need to start inundating my music with champion, champion winner, winner.
Jana Shelfer:All I do is win, win, win, no matter what, what, what that's?
Jana Shelfer:right Like I need to put myself in that state of being and I need to train like that.
Jason Shelfer:I need to just live in that. That emotion, that vibration, it's a vibration yes it is that's what music is, and I love that you said amplify amplifies the feeling. Yes, I mean, that's there's in music. We have amps. I mean everything is about that vibration of life, that rhythm of life. What rhythm of life do you want?
Jana Shelfer:to be in. So I must say that music as of right now has not been in my Hasn't been a priority for me. It hasn't been in my morning routine. It is as of today. I will start when I go for my walk. I'm going to listen to some music.
Jason Shelfer:I remember for about a year when we got up in the morning, I would listen to either songs from the Greatest Showman or songs from Trolls, and you can call that silly or immature or whatever.
Jana Shelfer:Some people call it cheesy and corny, that's us.
Jason Shelfer:You know what Best life ever Like. You talked about it on the drive here. I got this feeling down in my soul.
Jana Shelfer:It is electric and I'm not gonna let it go.
Jason Shelfer:I mean, we're just dancing, just even thinking about it you were talking about on the drive up here to Tallahassee that all the things that we were talking about and thinking about for the last 10 years are just showing up and coming to fruition right throughout the last year and a half.
Jana Shelfer:And the thing about music is it speaks to our unconscious mind, so we don't even realize how much of an impact it's having on us. Now it's the same way with the the news we read and the the tv we watch and the people we're around. Everything has an effect on how we show up, and so it is our job as humans, in order to be our best self possible, to be conscious of everything that is around us, and I'm going to start today with music.
Jana Shelfer:Thanks for joining us.
Jason Shelfer:Keep Living Lucky®, bye-bye.
