Q: How do I know if I am truly serious about my goals? A: Apply the "Life as a Movie" lens. Audit your last seven days as if a stranger were watching. Look for visible evidence of your commitment: the early starts, the focus on learning, and the protection of small streaks. If your actions demonstrate consistent effort, you are serious. If not, choose one "scene" or habit to reshoot tomorrow to regain momentum.

From Doom Loop To Success Cycle

Jana Shelfer

Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®.

Jason Shelfer

Good morning.

Speaker 2

I'm Jana. I'm Jason.

Jana Shelfer

And we are Living Lucky®.

Jason Shelfer

You are too.

The Week-As-A-Movie Mindset

Jana Shelfer

Here's the meme for the day. If someone watched you for a week, would they believe you're serious about your goals?

Jason Shelfer

That's so good.

Jana Shelfer

Oh wow.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah. And I think that's one of the things that a lot of times we we wonder are we doing the things that we need to do to get to where we want to go?

Credit, Recovery, And Enoughness

Jana Shelfer

You know, that just really hit me because you have often said, Jana, look at your life like it's a movie. Look at your life like it's a movie. And when I read this meme, if someone watched you for a week, would they believe you're serious about your goals? I don't even care what anyone else thinks. I just pretend, what would Jana think? What would Jana think if she was watching Jana for a week?

Jason Shelfer

And sometimes we need to look back and recognize and give ourselves the credit, like say, what am I look back and say, what have I done that's that's getting me there?

Speaker

Yes.

Jason Shelfer

Because a lot of times we don't give ourselves the credit that we deserve.

Speaker

Yes.

Jason Shelfer

And so and and we we give ourselves a lot of grief over those times that we're resting, those times that we're recovering, those the downtime that we do need.

Jana Shelfer

Oh, yeah, because there's an over-critical monster that lives inside me.

Jason Shelfer

A lot of times because we're not at the pinnacle or we're not quote unquote there yet, yes, we judge ourselves so harshly for not doing enough.

Jana Shelfer

But where is there? I mean, really, we we we have other podcasts where we say it's not there that matters, it's the journey that matters.

Jason Shelfer

So it's that there is no there's no there there, right?

Jana Shelfer

Which I've never understood that saying when when in politics or no there.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, they're always saying I hated that saying, but so it's there's a it's the journey, and it's saying, is am I making the journey? Am I doing the little important things along the path? Yeah, am I having the experience? Am I am I am I doing the things that matter?

Listening To The Body

Jana Shelfer

And you know what? I feel like my body tells me when I am doing the right things. For example, when this week we're having ski camp, and I'm I'm sore. And I don't want to admit that to anyone, but I am sore. And when I go to bed, I am sleeping better. Do you know what I'm saying?

Jason Shelfer

It's a good, it's that second level sore. It's like a good it's like, oh, I need this downtime. I need this, I need some recovery time.

Jana Shelfer

So I'm sleeping better and I'm also pooping better.

Jason Shelfer

I need to do that. Oh, okay.

unknown

Sorry.

Jana Shelfer

Not that we want to go there, but I I feel like this week I've been doing the things that I need to do to get me to where I want to go.

Jason Shelfer

You're you're a well-oiled machine right now.

Jana Shelfer

Well, I don't know about that. It's only the first first training game.

Immersion Week And Focus Tradeoffs

Jason Shelfer

We've been well, we've had so this week is an immersion week.

Jana Shelfer

Yes.

Jason Shelfer

So we've got people coming the all over from the country and from Canada, or from the continent, I should say.

Jana Shelfer

Right.

Jason Shelfer

That are here and we're skiing, and we're skiing a lot.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah.

Jason Shelfer

We're eating healthy.

Jana Shelfer

But you know, not a not too terribly much. I mean, we've only been doing two sets a day, but in between sets, then we're watching video, we're talking about it constantly.

Jason Shelfer

So it's the mindset, there's a lot of it's the mechanics, it's the doing, it's the the the nitty-gritty, you know, it's all of it.

Jana Shelfer

It would be a very boring movie if you were to watch it for a week, which is what our topic is today. If someone watched you for a week, if your movie, if your life was a movie for one week, would they believe you're serious about your goals? And when you first brought this question up to me, I actually my first inkling was to say, I'm about 65%, which is a D. D minus. And and again, that's the critical little monster that lives inside me. I should name her.

Jason Shelfer

Well, a lot of times we'll we'll we'll pick a week and we'll say, we'll pick a week that's not great, and we'll say, we'll say, well, not this week, and then we'll judge all the other weeks on that.

Jana Shelfer

Because I immediately went to the things that I didn't do this week. For example, we missed our Jason and I are in a a wealth abundance class. Uh yeah, mastermind that's and it's on Sundays, and we we missed this week.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, we had five people in the house and we were skiing and we missed it because it's in the middle of the day.

Jana Shelfer

I just did a podcast about how I joined the swim team that meets at 6 a.m. in the morning.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. And I've missed it.

Jana Shelfer

I've been so sore this week that I haven't been able to go.

Jason Shelfer

And we've got guests staying with us all week.

Streaks, Small Wins, And Pride

Jana Shelfer

So when I asked myself the question, wow, if I really look back at my week and my series about my goals and my first inkling was Jana, you gotta do better. Then I stopped and analyzed it more. And I was like, Well, you know what? One goal that I have this year is to build better relationships, and that's what I'm doing by having ski camp here, correct? Yeah, also I want to continue my journey of skiing, and we have one of the best coaches in the world here, and he's been we've been taking my technique apart and maybe rebuilding it a little bit.

Jason Shelfer

And so we have to look at, okay, we've got some things that are going over time and distance, yes, and we have an opportunity for an immersion experience. Yes, and we have this immersion experience where everyone has come to our house and living with us for a specific amount of time, now we maximize on that and we might have to put everything else on pause for a moment. So if we're looking at that and as a as someone, everyone looking at that from the outside, they're like, how do we get that experience? They must be serious about their goals.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah, because I'll tell you what, at 11:30 last night, as we were saying goodbye to our dinner guests, I got a notification, you haven't done your Duolingo, which my goal has been to learn Spanish, and I haven't missed a day since July. And so I I immediately like ran to the other room. I was like, I gotta do this for me. Me too. I gotta do this for me before midnight, because at midnight the day starts over.

Jason Shelfer

Not gonna miss that streak.

Jana Shelfer

Right. So there you start looking at those little things, and I uh we are doing it. I'm proud of us.

See The Best In Each Other

Jason Shelfer

I'm proud of us too. I think that if we were quote unquote checking the boxes on the pathway to all the things that we want to accomplish, we want to get done, the the people that we're becoming, and and our five-year-old people are who we were five, 10 years ago, yes, we'd be so proud of who we are today. They would want to be us. Absolutely, 100%.

Jana Shelfer

I also want to bring up the fact that isn't it odd that my first inkling was to go to how I'm not enough.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah.

Jana Shelfer

I think there's a psychological aspect there, and I think a lot of people can relate to that, whether you're a mom or whether you're trying to provide our first thing is, oh my gosh, I'm not doing enough.

Jason Shelfer

Where am I missing the bullseye?

Jana Shelfer

Yes. And then the more I look at it, I'm like, wow, I am doing okay.

Jason Shelfer

So I think the other part, the the shadow side of that is where are we seeing in our partners or in someone else in our life of where are that where's that person missing the bullseye? You know what I'm saying? Yeah, like we just naturally do that is that we're saying I don't think we naturally do that, but I think we can say where are they hitting the mark?

Jana Shelfer

Yeah, we need to reframe that.

Jason Shelfer

Where I think it's sometimes we can look for the best, right? Yeah, look for how is someone doing the best job that they they can in the moment, and then just recognize their wins for you.

Jana Shelfer

Yes.

Jason Shelfer

Like I I think you do a great job for me, like helping me see my wins, and hopefully I do a great job of for you.

Jana Shelfer

Oh, you're the best at helping you or in fact, you've been teaching me how to do that.

Jason Shelfer

Good.

Jana Shelfer

Uh, I will say in life, I feel like maybe that was your mission.

Jason Shelfer

One of your uh I'm the come I'm the little four-year-old in the commercial that's like, I was awesome. You were awesome.

Jana Shelfer

Almost to a delusion.

Jason Shelfer

We showed up, we made it to the ball game, and and I'm the one we lost 20 to zero, but we were great.

Jana Shelfer

That's not trying to pull you down. Like sometimes it may seem like I'm an anchor, but I'm here to make you better.

Jason Shelfer

Jason, you struck out every time, but I was a bat. I was great. I held it, I held the bat by the right end.

Celebrate You And Commit

Jana Shelfer

Oh, I love us. I do too. The more I look at our life in a week, I think we're doing it. Every time I get better, we need to celebrate. Celebrate you. If you're listening to this, celebrate you. Pretend you are watching your life in a movie and take a week span. And then ask yourself the serious question. If someone else was watching this, would they think I was serious about my goals? And even more so, as I watch this, do I think I'm serious about my goals? Thanks for joining us. Keep Living Lucky®.
