00:02:50.719 --> 00:02:54.229 So we're looking at written and read and those revolutionary ideas of Jesus. 00:02:54.230 --> 00:02:56.689 And we've been talking through the sermon on the Mount. 00:02:56.691 --> 00:03:04.960 In fact, we've started with the beatitudes just about the, these things that Jesus is, these phrases that Jesus is putting out there saying blessed are. 00:03:05.259 --> 00:03:07.479 And, and that's why they're called the be attitudes. 00:03:07.689 --> 00:03:09.520 Cause the Latin word there is be Addison. 00:03:09.669 --> 00:03:11.379 And it means blessed. 00:03:11.381 --> 00:03:12.909 Okay, so blessed are. 00:03:12.911 --> 00:03:15.610 And so he he's giving this sermon on the mountain. 00:03:15.610 --> 00:03:27.520 We don't know exactly where it was given, but we know the content and the content is strong and he is, he is bringing forth revolutionary ideas, concepts, and his words are leading the way. 00:03:27.520 --> 00:03:30.729 And we've said each time, that words change worlds. 00:03:30.939 --> 00:03:38.860 If you want to change the world that you're living in, change the words that you are saying, it will make a huge difference in your life. 00:03:39.129 --> 00:03:46.719 And he begins in Matthew five and verse three, he said, blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 00:03:46.930 --> 00:03:52.360 And we discovered there that the first work of the Holy spirit in our life is conviction conviction. 00:03:52.360 --> 00:03:55.870 And the first work of grace in our life is repentance. 00:03:56.139 --> 00:03:58.620 And you can go back and listen or watch those sermons. 00:03:58.780 --> 00:04:03.639 And then in verse four, he said, blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted. 00:04:04.030 --> 00:04:07.780 These are mourning as the external expression of internal grief. 00:04:07.781 --> 00:04:09.039 And he said, there's comfort. 00:04:09.189 --> 00:04:10.599 That comes into your life. 00:04:10.750 --> 00:04:13.990 If you will express what's going on inside. 00:04:14.199 --> 00:04:19.209 And we said, addressed hurts, heal things that you let be known. 00:04:19.211 --> 00:04:21.279 They are the things that will heal in your life. 00:04:21.730 --> 00:04:26.189 And then Jesus said, blessed are the meek for, they shall inherit the earth. 00:04:26.190 --> 00:04:34.980 And we talked about this last week, that meekness is controlled strength and ultimately controlled strength rules. 00:04:35.430 --> 00:04:37.560 It's maturity and action. 00:04:38.430 --> 00:04:40.110 You don't tell me that you're mature. 00:04:40.139 --> 00:04:48.600 If you can't control your responses to situations in the world around you, a maturity is controlled strength. 00:04:48.810 --> 00:05:05.399 If you have the opportunity and the ability rather to, to make a difference because you're strong in a particular area and you could do something on your own behalf, controlled strength says I'm going to do what's right for the whole, instead of just doing what's right for me, I'm strength under control. 00:05:05.490 --> 00:05:11.339 Why are we do we control the strength that we have because we are heirs of Christ. 00:05:11.519 --> 00:05:16.649 Those who control their sprints, Trent, those who are the meek, they will inherit the earth. 00:05:16.709 --> 00:05:19.980 We are heirs of the earth with Christ Jesus. 00:05:20.459 --> 00:05:23.970 And so we are meek because we are heirs of the earth. 00:05:24.180 --> 00:05:27.389 Our future empowers are present. 00:05:27.629 --> 00:05:40.259 And so today we step into verse number six, where the, the, the savior of the world says blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled. 00:05:40.649 --> 00:05:45.870 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled. 00:05:45.870 --> 00:05:56.009 And we've been identifying their, um, defining these, these words and blessed again means supremely blessed, happy, fortunate, well off it's consistent with the rest. 00:05:56.011 --> 00:06:04.459 And then he says, blessed are those who are hungry, who hunger, hunger, there is the word, uh, for hungry or famished. 00:06:04.610 --> 00:06:07.220 It, it doesn't mean a munchie. 00:06:07.250 --> 00:06:08.660 It means starving. 00:06:08.990 --> 00:06:14.300 I'm hungry for something I'm desperate for something I'm craving something. 00:06:14.569 --> 00:06:16.790 And then the word for thirsty there. 00:06:16.850 --> 00:06:28.720 If you go back in the original language, it means thirsty, very difficult to understand very, very S very deep it's deep water. 00:06:28.839 --> 00:06:29.259 Anyway. 00:06:30.040 --> 00:06:34.389 Uh, and then he says, righteous, what are we, what are we hungry and thirsty for? 00:06:34.540 --> 00:06:37.269 We're hungry and thirsty for righteousness. 00:06:37.569 --> 00:06:43.269 Now the word there is equity of character and means that you are the same over here. 00:06:43.269 --> 00:06:48.310 As you are over there, that your character is consistent across the board. 00:06:48.490 --> 00:06:52.060 In Christian terms, we would say the word justified. 00:06:52.300 --> 00:06:52.870 Okay? 00:06:52.899 --> 00:06:56.199 So with God, we here's God, and here's us. 00:06:56.560 --> 00:07:03.610 Every time we try to touch him every time we try to meet him, every time we try to reach him, we're not on the same playing field, if you will. 00:07:03.759 --> 00:07:12.279 But Jesus Christ allows us to be justified or brought into relationship brought into right standing with God. 00:07:12.370 --> 00:07:16.029 And so he's saying that, that we are righteous. 00:07:16.031 --> 00:07:21.850 Those who hunger and thirst after right, standing with God, what's going to happen with them. 00:07:22.180 --> 00:07:30.579 Um, they will be, they will be filled the word filled there means gorged or supplied with abundance. 00:07:30.819 --> 00:07:34.329 It means supplied and satisfied will. 00:07:34.720 --> 00:07:42.399 It means that that what they are filled with becomes so, so prevalent in their life that it's overflowing from them. 00:07:42.399 --> 00:07:42.939 It's there. 00:07:43.089 --> 00:07:46.180 They are completely full in every way. 00:07:46.660 --> 00:07:57.970 And this was a revolutionary idea for those listening to Jesus speak revolutionary because they were raised under the law of Moses, the law of Moses. 00:07:58.060 --> 00:08:02.410 Many of us have, if you read through the scripture, you might know the 10 commandments. 00:08:02.860 --> 00:08:08.259 They're the laws that say, don't do this and don't do this and don't do this and don't do this. 00:08:08.261 --> 00:08:10.480 And if you're going to do this, do it this way. 00:08:10.639 --> 00:08:18.670 And, and they're, they are bringing structure to a people who had just come out of slavery, but it is a list of rules. 00:08:18.670 --> 00:08:20.379 Is it a list of laws? 00:08:20.380 --> 00:08:25.360 And the law of Moses is often portrayed as bad as negative. 00:08:25.480 --> 00:08:32.440 If you read the new Testament, you see, you see Paul saying, writing things like, Hey, are, are you under the law? 00:08:32.500 --> 00:08:34.570 You don't need to be under the law. 00:08:34.750 --> 00:08:37.690 And if you listen to people, speak and preach today. 00:08:37.750 --> 00:08:43.149 And in our day in church, you might hear them say, so, are you legally mystic? 00:08:43.269 --> 00:08:45.460 Or are you operating under the law? 00:08:45.549 --> 00:08:55.210 And so it's easy to have this idea that the law of Moses was bad or negative, but stop for a moment and think about who gave the law to Israel. 00:08:55.769 --> 00:08:56.970 It was God. 00:08:57.269 --> 00:09:00.840 So dig God, give Israel something that was bad. 00:09:00.841 --> 00:09:06.090 Something that was terrible is did God give Moses something to write out? 00:09:06.091 --> 00:09:10.049 That was, that was going to be, uh, harmful to Israel. 00:09:10.200 --> 00:09:12.509 No, the law was not bad. 00:09:12.570 --> 00:09:13.799 It was a teacher. 00:09:13.940 --> 00:09:15.080 It was a tutor. 00:09:15.200 --> 00:09:27.889 It was, it was to reveal righteousness and unrighteousness too, who had no ability at the time to deal with the sin issue, the law revealed sin. 00:09:28.190 --> 00:09:29.690 It told them what was right. 00:09:29.691 --> 00:09:31.190 It told them what was wrong. 00:09:31.639 --> 00:09:42.470 It's it's like a parent with a, with a child, the parent who is the, who is trying to raise up this child in a, in a reasonable way, sets down the rules in the house. 00:09:42.471 --> 00:09:44.629 They say, you can do this. 00:09:44.630 --> 00:09:45.679 You can't do that. 00:09:45.830 --> 00:09:47.990 You say things like don't touch the stove. 00:09:48.230 --> 00:09:53.720 Now, do you think that never in their entire life, should they ever touch a stove? 00:14:56.211 --> 00:15:01.250 Because he's asking us to hunger and thirst and try to hit the unhittable Mark. 00:15:02.149 --> 00:15:07.580 He's asking us to hunger and thirst and to crave this thing called righteousness, which is unreachable goal. 00:15:09.580 --> 00:15:13.120 And they did not understand that things were changing. 00:15:13.120 --> 00:15:20.440 They didn't understand that Jesus was speaking to what would come to pass maybe in their lifetime. 00:15:20.740 --> 00:15:27.340 And he was certainly talking about what was going to come pass, come to pass for all those who would live after them. 00:15:27.879 --> 00:15:42.039 Because the lamb that was slain from the foundation of the earth was beginning his process of walking out salvation and making it available for all who would call upon his name. 00:15:43.659 --> 00:15:46.539 Jesus was the savior. 00:15:46.899 --> 00:15:54.759 And as the savior, he was saying hunger and thirst after righteousness, and you will be filled. 00:15:56.379 --> 00:15:58.029 And here's our big idea today. 00:15:58.750 --> 00:16:03.909 If you seek right things, God brings fullness to all things. 00:16:04.840 --> 00:16:08.259 If you see great things, God brings fullness to all things. 00:16:08.260 --> 00:16:10.720 The law could not bring fullness. 00:16:10.870 --> 00:16:16.269 There was always lack, but Jesus fulfilled the law. 00:16:16.299 --> 00:16:18.399 He didn't come to condemn the law. 00:16:18.429 --> 00:16:20.289 He didn't come through break the law. 00:16:20.350 --> 00:16:25.960 He came to fulfill the law that had been given by the father to Moses. 00:16:26.019 --> 00:16:29.409 He fulfilled the law and he fulfilled life. 00:16:29.529 --> 00:16:30.309 And it's total. 00:16:30.311 --> 00:16:34.179 Grace is grace on every level because we could not earn it. 00:16:34.389 --> 00:16:36.429 And we did not deserve it. 00:16:37.029 --> 00:16:44.649 No one that's ever lived has ever earned what Jesus did nor have we ever deserved what Jesus did. 00:16:44.769 --> 00:16:46.299 So it's complete grace. 00:16:46.301 --> 00:16:51.070 Jesus is teaching grace when he said blessed are the poor in spirit. 00:16:51.220 --> 00:16:54.940 He was talking about grace in relationship with God. 00:16:55.059 --> 00:16:57.129 When he said, bless it are those who mourn. 00:16:57.279 --> 00:17:00.490 He's talking about grace in relationship to self. 00:17:00.639 --> 00:17:03.610 When he said, blessed are the meek for, they shall inherit the earth. 00:17:03.639 --> 00:17:08.079 He's talking about grace in relationship to those around us. 00:17:08.319 --> 00:17:13.359 And then he says, blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, they shall be filled. 00:17:13.420 --> 00:17:19.029 He is talking about grace in relationship to the ambition of our, our lives. 00:17:19.839 --> 00:17:21.640 What drives us? 00:17:22.089 --> 00:17:33.309 What is pulling us toward a goal what's causing us to, to, to forego this and cleaves to that too, to say no to this. 00:17:33.339 --> 00:17:34.990 So we can say yes to that. 00:17:35.289 --> 00:17:37.150 It's ambition of our lives. 00:17:37.151 --> 00:17:54.930 It's the why behind the, what we do grand thirst after righteousness, after righteousness, and what Jesus was doing was with law by fulfilling, it was indicative of what he was doing with old things, fulfilling it. 00:17:55.769 --> 00:18:01.200 And as the savior, he was the right thing to fulfill all things. 00:18:02.339 --> 00:18:10.549 Now, three thoughts for us today and thought number one is this righteousness means meeting God standard, meeting gods standard. 00:18:11.779 --> 00:18:24.829 He requires perfect rightness in character before God, the intention of our heart always righteous and righteousness of action before mankind. 00:18:26.509 --> 00:18:32.000 So what we're thinking of doing what we intend to do and what we actually do, all of it matters before God. 00:18:32.119 --> 00:18:37.130 And he requires perfect rightness of character and rightness of action. 00:18:37.519 --> 00:18:39.920 So that means that you've never sinned in your heart. 00:18:40.220 --> 00:18:46.220 Never send in your mind, never send out of your mouth, never sinned with your body. 00:18:47.420 --> 00:18:49.099 And that's the whole sermon. 00:18:51.440 --> 00:18:52.609 That's all you gotta do. 00:18:54.230 --> 00:18:57.500 That's what he requires go forth and do likewise. 00:19:00.140 --> 00:19:01.099 But we can't. 00:19:02.420 --> 00:19:09.230 How do you not think a bad thought who fungus has never done a bad thing?
