In this 30min discussion with ex-nurse and now holistic practitioner Carol Greenwood, we discuss the issues around the British National Health Service (NHS) being designed as an acute disease service designed for short stays and treatments which is increasingly maladapted to the current surge in chronic disease. Carol describes her experience of nursing and how her caring instincts were overwhelmed and thus eventually she had to leave the profession, as many nurses do (there is currently a 30% understaffing). We discuss the difficulties in nurse training and implementation of staffing ratios and what needs to shift for it to become truly a health service not a disease management service.
She now has found a way to use her skills in the holistic therapy setting. She is a myofascial release therapist of great skill and intuition who can be contacted on greenwood-therapies.com and with myself of alchemytherapies.co.uk we now work together under the umbrella group - the Greenwood Holistic Health Group .
