In this audio I talk about Peter Cummings' Adult Attachment Repair Model (AARM) which is a training and style of therapy much like I do with clients using EMDR. Peter uses a novel approach of an attachment proxy with a large stick which the client holds whilst concentrating on their internal sensations! It is a 'bottom-up' method of healing attachment (bonding with parents) wounding. This form of trauma (sometimes also called relational trauma occurs commonly when an emotional need was not reliably met in childhood and can result in common symptoms of anxiety, dissociation, hyper-vigilance and pain - all forms of disconnection with the wisdom of the body.
In order to heal this kind of trauma we need relational safety and is seems that holding a stick which is held by someone else and gently felt, (a 'transitional attachment object') establishes in our body a sense of connection and safety that allows the body to release any unresolved emotions held within. No I didn't believe this either but the results I have seen in the demo made me sit up in awe.
I discuss the relevance of this method for neurological rebalancing and how it compares with EMDR for trauma release.
A review of this method based on a presentation given by Peter Cummings on the inaura.com 'Power of you' conference. For more information on this go to adultattachmentrepairmdoel.com.
