On this episode, the Chino Y Chicano talk with Emmy award winning journalist Maria Hinojosa about her fascinating career and her new book Once I Was You: A Memoir of Love and Hate in a Torn America. The book details her journey from Mexico to Chicago and into the broadcast journalism industry. As woman of color, she encountered plenty of challenges as she made her mark covering Latin America for NPR and 9-11 for CNN. Hinojosa eventually became the first Latina to create a non-profit, news operation, The Futuro Media Group, that produces Latino USA and other multi-platform content focusing on communities of color.
