He is the author of The Counterinsurgency Myth, The British Experience of Irregular Warfare, and The West’s War Against ISIS. His work examines how states manage risk, legitimacy and escalation in modern conflict, offering insights that inform policymakers, security practitioners and institutions grappling with the rise of hybrid and grey zone warfare.
