WOFOYO SHORT: Remember Your Path, But Keep Moving Forward

C-Dub and Bones Season 5

Have you ever wondered if God has a GPS for your life? That morning cup of coffee and time in Scripture might reveal more than you think.

During a busy week when words seemed scarce, a simple breakfast and Bible study sparked profound insight. Reading through Numbers 33—where Moses meticulously records Israel's forty-year journey from Egypt to the threshold of Canaan—offers a powerful reminder about the value of remembering our own paths.

The spiritual practice of reflection isn't about dwelling in the past but recognizing divine navigation. Where were you five years ago? When you document your journey's significant turning points, patterns emerge revealing God's guiding hand. Like the patriarchs who built memorial altars marking divine encounters, our personal milestones create reference points showcasing God's faithfulness. The podcast itself stands as testimony—what began as two friends writing a book and starting a podcast when "the Lord wasn't done" has now reached listeners worldwide, far beyond their natural abilities.

This balanced approach to reflection finds perfect expression in Philippians 3, where Paul acknowledges his impressive religious pedigree only to count it worthless compared to knowing Christ. He didn't ignore his history; he used it as a launching pad toward greater spiritual pursuit. His example teaches us the perfect tension: "Remember the past, be mindful of it, be thankful for it. Remember the lessons, learn the lessons, but stay on mission." Your history contains both warnings about enemy tactics and reminders of God's proven pathways to victory. Will you take time today to reflect on where you've been, recognize God's guidance, and recommit to moving forward with clearer purpose? Your journey matters—not just where you're going, but also where you've been.

SPEAKER_00:

Hey everybody, welcome to another WoeFoYo Short. This is C Dub. Every now and then you have life. Life gets busy, and you got things you gotta do. So if you ever see one of these or hear one of these podcasts, these shorts that maybe air a little bit later, it's a busy week. And to be quite honest, didn't have a lot to say. But you know what? Got up this morning, fixed myself some coffee, a little bacon, eggs, and toast, and had me some breakfast, just sat out on the back deck with my blue healer rowdy, and started getting in the word. And if you don't know what to talk about, that word will point it out every time. Just gotta stay open to the Holy Spirit. So it's finishing up the book of Numbers, and as they're getting ready to have the last big powwow over in Deuteronomy, they're finishing up, and in Numbers 33, it recounts the whole journey of Israel as they leave Egypt up to the point they're staged to enter the promised land. You have two tribes that want to use that as pasture land, and Moses said, If we do this, you're still fighting your battles. So your comfort and your prosperity does not excuse you from fighting battles. But he lists, but he lists all the places that Israel has traveled. He mentions certain things that happen. In the fortieth year. So you know things are getting close. Now, it caused me to put things in context. Just play along with me. Where were you five years ago? Think about that. And as I always recommend, get out of pen and pen. Start writing down. What state were you in five years ago? What about for me it'd be a lot more significant six or seven? But five years was significant. Really starting to step out on faith on some things. Bones and I are writing a book. We're like, man, we don't feel like the Lord's done with this. So we start a podcast. That podcast has gone literally all over the world. And are we having millions of listeners? No. But it impresses us what we have because it's beyond our ability. It's nothing but the Lord. But it doesn't hurt to sit back and recount where you were, and then recount significant steps along the way from where you were to where you're at now. And a lot of times what you'll see is God's process. In the old testament, quite often, whether it's the patriarchs, whether it's Moses, and then the child Joshua and the children of Israel, even David, even the kings, even David and Solomon, they were known for erecting memorials and altars, and there were rules for that. And not even altars for sacrifices in the case over with the tribes that were in Gilead. They did it as a memorial altar. Jacob and Abraham built memorial altars where they had had encounters with the Lord, stone pillars, uh, memorials. Solomon, you could argue, builds one of the ultimate memorials in the temple. David helped plan that. So that being said, it helps you to get an idea of what God's doing. Sometimes we can get so lost in the moment that we don't look back every now and then. You've got to be careful about looking back too much. Remember Lot's wife. But you got to keep it in context, you've got to keep it in balance. If you write down where you were, and then maybe some of the significant things that have happened along the way, you can see that God's doing land nav with you. He's navigating you to get you to where he wants you to be. And if you can see where he said turn here or turn here, you get you have these steps in your life, you can see kind of where he's taking you. But you always got to be pliable. You don't want to get stuck in that. Now, I don't know about you, but I argue with myself sometimes. Because in keeping balanced, uh, sometimes you go, This is important, but you don't go overboard. This is a principle, kind of like looking back, but don't stay stuck in the past. It reminds me of a passage over in Philippians. You want to see what this looks like. Apostle Paul. He used his past as a way, and in the memory of things that happened, uh, as a way to focus on the future and what he was doing. Let's go to Philippians 3, let's start at verse 3. For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit and rejoice in Christ Jesus and have no confidence in the flesh. Though I might also have confidence in the flesh, if any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I am more. We're getting King James. Circumcised on the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, which was the first kingly tribe, a Hebrew of the Hebrews is touching the law of Pharisee, concerning zeal, persecuting the church, touching the righteousness which is the law, blameless. But what things were gained to me, those I counted lost for Christ. Yea, doubtless, and I count all things but lost for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered loss of all things, and do count them but dumb. That's poopy, that I may win Christ, and be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith, that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings being made conformable to his death. He's given you all a process here. He's given us a process, given me a process. If by any means I might attain to the resurrection of the dead, not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect, but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which I am apprehended for Christ. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended, but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many be perfect, be thus minded. And if anything be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this to you. Paul saying, Hey, if you want to look at the past, Paul was not ignorant of the past. He used his past to actually propel him to what he was pursuing. Paul didn't let himself get content. And he even records, I outworked them all. I outworked them all. I might be the least of the apostles, but I outworked them all. Why? Because he had proper context. But it is important to recognize your past, to write it down, and every once in a blue moon, reflect on it, reflect how far he's brought you, reflect on the processes, reflect on where you messed up, reflect on how he got you through that, because it's probably a good indicator of what traps the enemy's trying to lay ahead, how you can pass that test here in the future, and actually what processes the Lord is going to use to give you victory in those situations. And I just want to encourage you, remember the past, be mindful of it, be thankful for it. Remember the lessons, learn the lessons, but stay on mission. Wofoyo. Hey everybody, thanks for listening.
