Whose Side Are You On?
A warrior with a drawn sword stands before Joshua near Jericho, and a simple question shatters our favorite categories: are you for us or for our enemies? The answer—no, but as captain of the Lord’s army—turns the ground holy and refocuses the battle from sides to surrender. We take that moment as a map for life in a polarized age, where pulpits, timelines, and inboxes try to conscript our loyalties before we ever ask what God actually wants.
We walk through the parallels between Moses’s burning bush and Joshua’s commissioning, showing how God’s presence is consistent while the encounters vary. That theme matters today: Scripture sets the boundaries, yet genuine experiences with God will not be copy-paste. When churches demand uniformity of story, they dull the edge of community. When leaders echo institutional talking points, their sermons start to sound like a teleprompter, not a testimony. Discernment grows when we hold the Bible open, test the fruit, and listen for the Spirit’s organic harmony among voices that were not coordinated by committees.
From there we ask the better question: not whether God is on our side, but how we get on His. The path is sober and simple—humble prayer, honest repentance, and active obedience to the word. We talk about letting differences sharpen rather than split, learning to pause when someone’s experience is unfamiliar, and recognizing when the Spirit says their story is legitimate. We also point to red flags of capture—when politics, donors, or institutions script the message—and we offer practical ways to keep our footing: read the whole counsel of God, resist tribal drafts, and act on what you find.
If this challenged you to trade sides for surrender, subscribe, share the episode with a friend, and leave a review to help others find the show. Then tell us: what practices help you stay rooted in Scripture while remaining open to how God might meet you next?

Hey everybody, welcome to another Well Folio Short. This is C Dub. I wanted to bring up, been finishing up Deuteronomy in my scripture reading and getting into the book of Joshua. And here's just one of the more well-known passages the setup is they're getting ready to go down into Jericho. They've made some preparations. They've circumcised themselves because there were some that were not ready. So they're getting ready to go and do battle under Joshua. Joshua 5 13. And it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, he raised his eyes. That behold, a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said, Are you for us or for our enemies? And he said, No, rather I have come now as a captain of the army of the Lord. And Joshua fell on his face to the ground and bowed down and said to him, What has my Lord to say to his servant? And the captain of the Lord's army said to Joshua, Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy. And Joshua did so. Couple things here. You see a parallel because Joshua has been getting groomed for this for a while. At the end of Deuteronomy, in front of the tent of meeting, Joshua is ordained to be the leader. And so he's getting ready to go into this experience in leadership. And here's your first big, big battle as they're going to take the land. Granted, Moses was on Mount Sinai. He saw the back of God. He had a veil where he talked face to face. Still, that initial experience was kicks everything off, even though the Lord's hand is on him. Happens at the burning bush. So now Joshua's getting ready to go into battle. And now we're being presented with the captain of the Lord of hosts. Captain of the army of the Lord. Translations will say it differently. But he's having a God encounter right now. It says, take your shoes off, remove the sandals from your feet for the place where you stand where you are standing is holy. Just like the burning bush. And Joshua did so. So the way, and this is why we need to be careful of how we treat each other, yet stand on the word, get in the word for ourselves, know it. We need to be careful because not everybody's going to experience God the same way we experience God. Bottom line, they're not going to experience God the same way we experience God. We need to be mindful of that. We need to be accepting of that. However, scripture is scripture. So the way that we experience Jesus Christ should not violate Scripture. Scripture gives us a lot of leeway in how we experience that. And we we need to not only have the head knowledge, we not only need to be scripturally literate, but we also need to know the word for ourselves and get in the word for ourselves and how we walk it out. And once you start to do that, then you're going to recognize that even though their experience might be different, you're going to go, hmm, Holy Spirit, what's going on? And he's going to go, leave them alone because their experience is legitimate. And even though sometimes it might mess with you, because that ain't how it happened with you. That's part of it. And that's the way it's supposed to be. We're designed to sharpen one another and help each other. And if everybody was cookie cutters, like a lot of organizations will try and make you, then nobody gets sharpened. Everything gets dull. We're not as sharp because there's not that contrast, as Bones and I were talking about uh before in one of our previous podcasts. Other thing I want to encourage you about is to be of the proper mindset. Here in what has become a polarized society, make sure that you're not letting people tell you which side to be on. So before you go, well, I'm this and I'm that and I'm this and I'm that, what you need to ask, rather than, hey God, are you on our side or their side? Because in in the pulpits in America, you got pastors that are on the take, you got those that are corrupted, you got those that owe their soul to their denomination and to their theological institution which train them, and whatever grant money is coming through that way, and whatever politicians hand in the head of that university slipping them a little money, that happens. And you can tell because rather than be organic, like you can have some of the prophetic leaders that don't even know each other in some circles, the Lord's giving me this, and the Lord's giving me this, and the Lord's giving me that, the Lord's giving me that. And you're gonna come up with a real complete picture where these folks haven't even been talking. And you bring them in, you're like, whoa. Now, what happens in the other thing is these seminaries, they will put out their talking points, and everybody's been trained by that seminary is going to start disseminating through their sermons, or they're gonna start disseminating through their newsletter or chain of email, social media posts, the same talking points. If you've ever seen the thing in the media where they have all the newscasters are talking about the importance of using a trusted media source, and it's all one company that has issued out the talking points, and these people are reading through the teleprompter. Operation Mockingbird. So, so instead of going, Lord, are you on our side or are you on their side? What you need to ask is, Lord, how'd I get on your side? And it's real simple. You pray, you humble yourself and admit where you're wrong, but you get in the word for yourself, and then do it. Wofo yo. Hey everybody, thanks for listening. We hope this challenges you and causes you to grow and causes you to act. You can always check us out at wofoyo.org or subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Rumble, or even check us out on YouTube. For Bones and Myself, this is C Dub, reminding you that if you're going to grow, you got a Woefo Yo. Get in the word for yourself.
