WOFOYO SHORT: From Joshua To Jesus: Action Over Entitlement

C-Dub and Bones Season 5

What if the prayer you’re waiting on needs a plan before it becomes a breakthrough? We open Joshua 17 and watch Ephraim and Manasseh ask for more land, only to hear Joshua push them to clear the forest and take the hill country. That scene sets the tone for a bigger truth echoed by Jesus in Matthew 11:12: the Kingdom advances when we press in with focused, obedient action, not passive entitlement.

We trace how Scripture pairs God’s power with our response. From lepers told to see the priest to a blind man sent to wash, Jesus often links miracles with instructions that require movement. We talk about how to discern when to stand still and when to step forward, why preparation is a form of faith, and how plans, strategies, and habits position us for the very answers we’re asking for. Along the way, we wrestle with iron chariots—those modern obstacles that look too strong—and how courage and stewardship turn contested ground into promised ground.

There’s also a candid look at expectations. Sometimes the exact request doesn’t land, but growth does: stronger character, clearer judgment, deeper resilience. That’s not a consolation prize; it’s God shaping us to carry more. If you’ve been praying for opportunity, provision, healing, or direction, this is a practical push to draft the plan, follow sound instruction, and be ready when the door opens. Press past entitlement, prepare your field, and meet grace with movement.

SPEAKER_01:

Hey everybody, welcome to another WoeFo Yo short. This is C Dub. Was reading today, finishing up the book of Joshua, and over in Joshua 17, there is a predicament that says, The children of Joseph, which means the tribes of Ephraim and Manesseh, they come to Joshua. He is apportioning out the land after they have won numerous battles. Joshua 17, 14. Then the people of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, Why have you given me but one lot and one portion as an inheritance? Although I am a numerous people, since all along the Lord has blessed me. And Joshua said to them, If you are a numerous people, go up by yourselves to the forest and clear the ground for yourselves in the land of the Perizzites and the Rephiim, since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you. The people of Joseph said, The hill country is not enough for us. Yet all the Canaanites who dwell in the plain have chariots of iron, both those in Beshan and its villages, and those in the valley of Jezreel. Then Joshua said to the house of Joseph, To Ephraim and Manesseh, You are a numerous people and have great power. You shall not have one allotment only, but the hill country shall be yours. For though it is a forest, you shall clear it and possess it to its farthest borders, for you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong. This reminds me of one of my favorite sayings of Jesus. Matter of fact, Bones and I have talked about this here lately. From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force. Some translations uh will say press it's pressed into. It's not willy-nilly. That's Matthew 11 12. There's this idea that we have a lot of times that you you contrast the attitude of what the tribe give assists. Give us this, give assist, give us we we need more, give us this land. As opposed to what Joshua says is bet, go out and take it. This is these are strong people here. These these are he said, yep. And you're strong enough to go take it. And when you read about Joshua, everything up to Moses is getting to the kingdom. When you read about Joshua, when you read about the judges, even in Samuel, Joshua and the judges are taking the kingdom, they are pressing into the kingdom. And the book of Judges, as well as the book of Joshua, is a violent book. First Samuel. Second Samuel are violent books. A lot of killing in that. A lot of military conquest in this. And just like they are taking the physical kingdom, so Jesus comes and he says, from time of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. So he's talking about a spiritual kingdom here. There is an attitude of complacency which will sidetrack us. We believe that if the Lord's going to do a miracle, and he does miracles, then all we need to do is sit back and wait. To be fair, there are some situations in the Bible where you hear, stand still and see the salvation of your God. What the instructions are, stand still and see it. There's others where you have to follow instructions for God's intent to manifest in your life. Jesus lays hands on a blind man, rubs mud in his eyes. Now go wash off. He heals lepers. Go show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifice that is necessary. When he forgives a woman in adultery, go and sin no more. The paralytic that is laid down through the roof, through the thatch in the roof. Son, your sins are forgiven you. There's an action there. There is something there that happens. When you take action, you start acting on your faith, interesting things really start to happen. I'm going to challenge you all, because if you think that I can't get this way, uh we pray for things, but do we make preparations for them to happen? Do we develop plans and strategies that says when God does this or if God does this? Uh we prayed for this. Now, what does that look like when this happens? Or if He were to bless us with what we prayed for, would it catch us with our pants down?

SPEAKER_00:

Would it catch us unaware? So while we're praying for blessing, I would highly encourage you that what is in your power to do, go and do that.

SPEAKER_01:

Act on what you can, make plans, make preparations for God to show Himself strong. Now, what does that look like? Well, I really don't know for you. I don't know what you're praying for, but I know what I'm praying for, and I know what things I'm believing God for. And I also know that a lot of times when I pray, Lord, I use help with this, Lord, I don't know how this is going to happen, but show me what to do here. A lot of times that involves some instructions. And for me to not follow instructions and then try and say that God's not faithful would be a big cop out. Because when I pray for some things, and Lord, I've seen, I've seen, I've seen the Lord work it out to where even when I didn't get what I what I prayed for, because God's not some genie that you just I said in Jesus' name and I used it by faith, and and and now he's gonna do it. Okay. Uh I realize that's ruffling some word of faith feathers here, and I really love the word of faith. I learned a lot of things, and then I had to unlearn some things by walking it out. What a lot of times will happen, Lord, I'm believing you for this. Well, might not have got what I prayed for. I got better. Every time I got better. And not that there wasn't some sacrifice and some maturity that had to happen on my part. But take action, take action, take action. Realize that the kingdom of heaven is pressed into, it suffers violence, and you have to be very deliberate and ready to act when the circumstance presents itself.

SPEAKER_00:

Be obedient and don't have an entitlement mentality.

SPEAKER_01:
