WOFOYO SHORT: Division Is A Control Technique.

Division is loud, addictive, and weirdly convincing, especially when it sounds like “defending truth.” We start with 1 John 2:26–29, where Scripture warns about people trying to deceive believers and points us back to the Holy Spirit’s anointing and the simple command to remain in Christ. That’s not a call to arrogance or isolation. It’s a call to spiritual discernment, steady faith, and confidence that comes from knowing Jesus personally.

I also circle back to an older WoFoYo conversation about COVID-19 in the church that suddenly started getting more listens. It reminded me of something we said years ago: it’s far easier for authorities to limit, control, or compromise an organization than it is to control your relationship with Jesus Christ. When the pressure hit churches during COVID, the buildings shut the doors but a significant number of people didn’t just drift away. Many started seeking the Lord for themselves, and that hunger still matters for the spiritual health of the church in the United States.

Then we talk about what’s resurfacing now: denominational bickering, Catholics versus Protestants, group identities hardening into teams, and the subtle “divide and conquer” effect that follows. This kind of infighting is a control technique that distracts believers from evangelism, obedience, and the actual work of the Gospel. We’re not saying standards don’t matter. We’re saying the true Church isn’t defined by a label. If you’re following Jesus, you can learn his Voice, stay rooted in God’s Word, and live in the freedom Christ gives.

Hey everybody, welcome to another Woe Folio Short. This is C dub. Want to read to you from 1 John chapter 2, verse 26. These things I've written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you, and as for you, the anointing which you receive from him remains in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you, but as his anointing teaches you about all things and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you remain in him. Now, little children remain in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not draw back from him in shame at his coming. If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness also has been born of him. You know, I was curious. Every now and then I'll check the metrics and see what's going on with the good old Woe Foyo podcast. And there was an episode that Bones and I did close to five years ago now. It was over in 2021. We were talking about COVID-19 in the church. And one of the things that came out, for some reason, this was getting an uptick in listenership. Now, do I go back and listen to a lot of our podcasts? No. On the other hand, I really don't try and remember what we said because as long as you're being honest, you don't have to recall what you said that much. But I was curious what was making this jump. So I went and listened to it. One of the things that stood out was we were talking about how during that time the Lord, he was kind of giving us a dress rehearsal for certain things. But the government was manifesting certain things in the certain actors in the government. There was a spiritual force behind it, a spiritual influence, and not a good one, that was trying to prohibit people from gathering together, is trying to prohibit people from speaking out, worshiping in public. They were trying to shut the churches down, the physical churches. And one of the things that came out of my mouth, and I go, oh, okay, is that it was way easier for government to try and control or limit or even do away with or compromise an organization than it is for them to try and control or do away with your relationship with Jesus Christ. It's doing some stuff around the house and it just wouldn't leave me alone. You know, one of the things I've said here recently, and I I've said that this has grieved the Holy Spirit, but it's pissing me off, is that there is all this denominational bickering starting to resurface Catholics against Protestants, Protestants against Catholics, you know, this this group, that group, that group. And it hit me that this is by design, that there is a spiritual influence behind this, that the same spirit that was behind COVID-19 and trying to control the organizations, what that resulted in was people seeking to know the Lord for themselves. It it sparked part of an awakening within the United States, which, although organizationally, it looks like it's got issues, and rightfully so. At the same time, what's going on in the heart of the believers and the new believers that are coming into faith are seeking Jesus. And I think one of the things that's happening is you're seeing that it's the divide and conquer method spiritually, and you're seeing what was going on with the government and governments during COVID is the same thing that's going on with some of the religious leadership in these big organizations, as well as their willing accomplices. The the church, the true church is not divided. We might see some things differently, but the true church isn't divided. Uh, the true church is acknowledging one another as believers in Christ. And if you are following Jesus, you have that unction from the Holy One. You have the Holy Spirit, you have the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, you have Christ made unto us wisdom and righteousness and peace. You have these things. So just be aware of the enemy and his tactics. Because if they can get you divided into picking sides, into going, well, I'm a I'm a this and this, and we believe this and this, and see, here's where you're wrong because you believe that and that the dah da that. And everybody's pointing fingers, nobody's doing the work, as Bones said in one of our previous episodes. You know, everybody's telling each other they're wrong, and nobody's going out and sharing the gospel. Nobody's evangelizing if we're doing that. So I'd like to encourage you to be aware that really what's going on is a prayed about it and ask the Lord, he's just showing me what's going on right now is due to the fact that there is an awakening, that there are those in charge of religious institutions that are trying to pick denominational fights rather than actually do the work of the gospel, and what what they're unaware of, or maybe they are aware of, is that it's just making them easier to control by those who really don't give a rip about the gospel. If you can divide, and if you can keep from being unified, and not saying we don't have standards, because we do, if we can divide, then all of a sudden people start wondering why things got less effective. Do not be fooled. This is the same influence, this is the same spiritual manipulation, it is a control technique. And if the Son has made you free, then you're free indeed. So don't buy into the garbage, don't buy into the hype. Uh, you don't have to bow the knee to any denomination, any non-denomination. All you have to do is acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord and be obedient to him. Learn how to hear his voice, learn how to get into his word and do what he tells you to do. Doesn't mean you're not accountable, but it does mean that you're obeying God rather than man. Woefo Yo. Everybody, thanks for listening.
