Psalm 2 doesn’t read like an ancient poem that lost relevance it reads like a headline. We open by reading the full chapter in the New King James Version, then slow down on the psalm’s most confrontational idea: people don’t always stumble into resisting God, they often “set themselves” and “take counsel” as a deliberate strategy. That single detail reframes how we think about culture, leadership, and even our own hearts when pride starts sounding like independence.

From there, we dig into the way language gets flipped. Psalm 2 shows rulers calling God’s life-giving guidance “bonds” and “cords,” and we connect that to a modern pattern where the liberty found in Jesus Christ gets branded as oppression. If Christ came to set captives free, why does freedom sometimes feel offensive? We talk through that tension using a simple line that hits hard: discipline equals freedom. Whether it’s health, finances, or habits, “pay me now or pay me later” shows up everywhere, and delayed gratification becomes a practical form of discipleship.

We also challenge the victim mentality that keeps people constantly offended and dependent. When you refuse responsibility, you don’t just lose momentum you can quietly hand your power to whoever claims to be your advocate. Psalm 2 calls us to wisdom, reverence, and clear-eyed choices, because judgment is real and resisting God is always the bumpier road.

Welcome And A Quick Setup

SPEAKER_00

Hey everybody, welcome to another Woe Folio Short. This is C Dub. Let's get in the word for ourselves.

Reading Psalm 2 In Full

SPEAKER_00

We're going to read Psalm 2, the whole thing, reading out of the New King James. Why do the nations rage and the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bonds in pieces and cast away their cords from us. He who sits in the heavens shall laugh. The Lord shall hold them in derision. Then he shall speak to them in his wrath, and distress them in his deep displeasure. Yet I have set my king on my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree. The Lord said to me, You are my son, today I have begotten you. Ask of me and I will give you the nations for your inheritance, at the ends of the earth for your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron, you shall dash them to pieces like potter's vessels. Now therefore, be wise, O kings. Be instructed, you judges of the earth, serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss a son lest he be angry, and you perish in the way when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in him.

When Leaders Choose Defiance

SPEAKER_00

Just a couple things here. I saw this pattern, and it seemed relevant today with some of the things that we've been dealing with, but the more I thought about it, this is really not a new pattern. This is something that mankind has been doing, and if we're not careful, we will end up doing ourselves. So you gotta realize first things first is God is God and we are not. Although we are the body of Christ. We're the body of the anointed one. Verse 2, the kings of the earth set themselves. So this is not just, this isn't just instinct here. This is being aware, this is making a decision, this is having evaluated and thought it out. You don't just set yourself. That's a strategy term. Okay. The kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together. So see, there's your strategy right there. Against the Lord and against his anointed, against his Christ, says in the New Testament version of this, where he's quoting. Same word. Saying, Let us break their bonds in pieces and cast away their cords

Calling Deliverance “Oppression”

SPEAKER_00

from us. One of the interesting things that I see here is that the very thing that brings deliverance, Christ, the anointed one, is the very thing that they're calling oppression here. In this mindset, the very thing that that brings you liberty, the very thing that Jesus died for, to give us freedom and to not be bondage, is now being called bonds, cords, what the people are saying here. There's certain nations, there are kings, there are rulers, there are those who are in authority, there are those that are saying that the gospel of Jesus Christ, which brings liberty, he came to set the captives free, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

Discipline Now Or Pain Later

SPEAKER_00

They're calling it oppression. I referenced this uh earlier. There was this shirt that I liked, and it simply said discipline equals freedom. And when you think about it, it's either pay me now or pay me later. Uh you can go work out, you can go to the gym, you can go and keep yourself in shape, or you can sit on the couch, eat tater chips, and watch reality TV all you want, or whatever you like to watch, and it's not going to benefit you. Might be an escape. Again, am I saying all that's bad and all, but you got to take it in moderation. But if that's all you did and you never had any exercise, Paul said bodily exercise profits a little. It does profit a little. That being said, if that's all we did, we're free to do it. A lot of people do that, but there's a cost to it. And so when you submit yourself to Jesus Christ, the price is pay now. And there are some inconveniences that come with that. There are some things that you will have to put off. One of my mentors in life taught me a concept, and I'm not going to sit here and puff my chest and say that I've always been the greatest at this. I'm telling you that when I have followed this concept, it has reaped good fruit. And that's simply the that it's that of delayed gratification. Um, it's saving up some money. It's maybe investing some stuff. When you could be going out and partying, you could have the flashiest car now, or you could save up and not be in debt and pay the actual price for the vehicle, or maybe pay for a used one that doesn't have the status that a new one has, but it's not depreciating third of the value, quarter of the value, depending on what you're driving, as soon as you drive it off the lot. Again, there's a lot of things I I've told my kids. As someone who went to the high school that I did, and we also co-opt with another high school. One of the amazing things to me is how many people that I thought were cool. Oh, these are the cool kids. Um, they ended up in a bad way. Uh they ended up dead, uh, ended up in prison. They ended up um with their habits catching up with them. You know, so you could have somebody who was the star athlete and married one of the prettiest girls in school, and things are going good till the habits catch up, you know, and and and I don't take any joy in saying that. I'm just saying it's been sad case studies, um, even though uh there are people that I really, really like. So you you can see

The Trap Of Victim Mentality

SPEAKER_00

this. There is a victim mentality out there, though, um, that people will try and sell you, uh, and I've talked about this before in these shorts. Be careful about it, because the very thing that's giving you freedom, people that are pushing a victim mentality and want you to have a victim mentality, and by the way, if you subscribe to that and you're constantly offended, then somehow they become your advocate and you're yielding your power over to them. Rather than reliance on God and faith in Christ and being willing to take responsibility for your actions, just like me, taking responsibility for my actions, you know, that that's going to yield better fruit. And they're taking that away. If you are willing to take responsibility for your actions, then you have power. When you say I'm a victim, you're giving that up. So beware of the victim mentality. Beware of those that are calling the liberty that is in Christ Jesus. Be be leery of those that are calling that oppression, all traditional values, traditional morals, the the oppression of the nuclear family, of a husband and wife and and and children raised in a Christian home. There are those that are trying to demonize that and call it oppression, and it's the same ones that will try and molest and mutilate kids and try and tell them that they are another sex than the one they're born. Permanently disfigured. Now, which is the more oppressing? You know, may maybe saying no to going certain parties or engaging in certain activities with your friends. Again, does that mean you're never to have a good time? No. Well, what I'm saying is if you know that there is a chance that things are going to get out of moderation, it's going to be that stupid, steer clear. Uh will that kick you out of the cool club? Possibly. Possibly. Tell you what it won't do. Um, it won't have you getting divorced because you're an alcoholic or a drug addict

Judgment Is Coming Get Aligned

SPEAKER_00

20 years later. One other thing I would like to point out here in this. He he's declaring to Jesus here, the father's declaring to Jesus, I will declare the decree. The Lord said unto me, You are my son, today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will give you the nations for your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for your possession. Verse 9, you shall break them with a rod of iron, and you will dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel. So what he's saying is the one who has lived the perfect life, Jesus Christ, he's going to execute judgment. Judgment is coming. People are like, you're being judgmental. There's going to be judgment coming. You can either cooperate with that judgment and get in line, and things are going to go smooth. Won't always be happy, won't always be pleasant. Not saying there won't be a price to pay for getting in line with God's judgment, but I can tell you it's a hell of a lot less bumpy ride than going against God's judgment. Because, as I said at the beginning of this, God is God, and we're not, although we are his body, and his judgment is going to be the one that stands. Get in the word, find out what it says, do what it says, and it'll yield results. Y'all have a good one. Wofoyo.
