WOFOYO SHORT: What Good Is Being Anointed If You Never Use It?
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
What if the biggest problem with your faith isn’t doubt, but delay? We wrestle with a line that refuses to let us stay comfortable: “What good is being anointed if you’re not going to use it?” Borrowed with full credit to Pastor David Hertel of Hope Fellowship Church in Brandon, Mississippi, that question becomes a mirror for anyone who loves good theology but struggles to take the next step.
We walk through Luke 12 as Jesus moves from confronting worry to calling us into kingdom focus, then we connect it to James 2 where the message gets even sharper: faith without works is dead. It’s one thing to say we believe, it’s another to act on that belief. We talk about how the Holy Spirit comforts us, builds us up, and reminds us we’re loved, but sooner or later God also gives instructions and asks, “Are you serious?”
We also push past “four walls” faith. Church can be a sanctuary and we need real rest, pruning, and seasons of growth, but anointing isn’t a spiritual merit badge. It’s given for a purpose: to serve, to help people, to remove burdens, and to see real fruit in the world. If obedience feels messy at first, you may not be failing, you may be falling forward.

Welcome And A Quick Confession
SPEAKER_01Hey everybody, welcome to another Well Folio Short. This is Seda. You know, in this Christian walk, uh the Holy Spirit will use a lot of different ways to teach you and to help you mature and help you grow. Um, one of those things that happened, let me tell you just one of the dirty little secrets when it comes to people that are teaching and people that are preaching, people that are talking about the Lord. Every now and then we steal some stuff from somebody else. However, uh, you know, I used to write songs. Uh Bones and I have written a book. In these things, if you're doing research, the the way you keep from stealing is just admit that you heard it from somebody, and if you can remember, just say who you heard it from. So we're not stealing this, but I would like to give credit where credit's
Credit Where Credit Is Due
SPEAKER_01due. I have this is a saying, first time I heard it, I've jumped out of my seat. I'm like, yes, yes, yes. Uh there's a guy named David Hurdle, he's a pastor of Hope Fellowship Church Brandon, Mississippi. Uh, we have a friend of the program who who is also on staff over there. Uh met David once, super great dude. I I look forward to if I'm driving and I got some if I got some time uh and want to hear something that's solid, I'd highly advise checking out their YouTube channel, uh Hope Fellowship Church Brandon, uh, Mississippi. So I heard David Hurdle say this thing that I go, amen, amen, and amen.
Make A Demand On Anointing
SPEAKER_01He talked about what good is being anointed if you're not going to use it. He was talking about making a demand on the anointing. And that might offend some sensibilities. But basically, yeah, well, what good's the anointing if you're not going to make a demand of it? Well, you just sit back and now you're just philosophically, I can say, and theologically, I can say that praise God, we're anointed. But if you're not doing anything, what good is it?
Luke 12 Kingdom Over Worry
SPEAKER_01Like to get in the word for ourselves. Luke 12, Jesus is talking about, he just finished talking about the lilies of the field and being worried about what you're going to eat, what you're going to drink, what you're going to wear. Uh, then he goes to verse 31, but he says, Seek the kingdom of God, and all these things should be added unto you. Verse 32 Do not fear, little flock, for it is your father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have, give alms, provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. You know that the father wants you wants you to have the kingdom. It's your father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. And then he goes, Well, now we're going to uh require some obedience as you step into the kingdom. And that echoes
James 2 Faith Requires Works
SPEAKER_01James. This is Jesus' brother here. James chapter 2, verse 14. What does it profit, my brethren, if somebody says that he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, Depart in peace, be warmed and filled, but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God, you do well. Even the demons believe and tremble. But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? And then he gets deciding Abraham, the father of faith, and he starts listening to all the things that God required Abraham to do. We can get all theologically correct, we can get all morally superior, we can talk about our destiny, we can talk about the anointing, but we can talk about hearing the voice of God of being led by the Holy Spirit, but the question eventually has to arise: what do you believe
What Are You Believing For
SPEAKER_01in God for?
SPEAKER_00And what's the Holy Spirit telling you?
SPEAKER_01Is he just telling you nice things? Or is there some set of instructions involved? Don't get me wrong. There's times the Holy Spirit will edify you and build you up, especially if you're at a low point. God's going to tell you how much he loves you. He will have had it happen. I've had it happen. Well, I tried to do some stupid stuff, so God would leave me alone.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that didn't work.
SPEAKER_01But there comes a point where the Lord goes, Hey, you know, you you prayed this, you said you want this, you said you believe this about me. There's going to come a point where he says, Are you serious?
SPEAKER_00Because if you're serious, I need you to do this, I want you to do this.
SPEAKER_01Is it because God really needs it? Really, he's God. But in stepping into the kingdom of Jesus Christ, Jesus was obedient to
Faith Beyond Church Walls
SPEAKER_01the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore, God has exalted him. I think a lot of times we we get comfortable in our theory, we get comfortable in our theology, we get comfortable in our catchphrases, we get comfortable even in our worship. As long as we can keep it contained, and the four walls of church is a safe space to where we can go, and not that there shouldn't be it's called a sanctuary, folks. There should be an element of sanctuary there. But your faith should not be limited to those four walls of the sanctuary. Yes, get refreshed, yes, get built back up, yes, get recharged, yes, be around fellow believers, and then learn how to get along.
SPEAKER_00Because there's eventually coming that period of time, I'm telling you, you say you're anointed, but what good is it?
SPEAKER_01Thank you, Pastor David, if you're not going to make a demand of it. What good is the anointing? It's not like a doggone merit badge that you're wearing in the Scouts. It's not the newest lapel pen or cuff links that you can wear with your suit. It's there for a reason. God has anointed you to do something, to be something, but what he's not anointed
Anointed For Purpose Not Stagnant
SPEAKER_01you to be is stagnant. Does that mean there's times where you won't go out in the wilderness? Not saying that at all. There will be times. Does that mean he's called you to just sit? There might be times where he's having you rest. That's going to be periodically, it's not going to be all the time. God has anointed you to help remove burdens and destroy yokes, just like it says in Isaiah when Jesus is reading that passage. He's proclaiming liberty to the oppressed, liberty to those that are bruised. There's this work that you're called to do in the kingdom. What exactly is that? It's between you and God. Right now I'm recording this. I can't go and talk to you personally, call you out by name, and give you something specific. Can't really do that in this format. However, let me tell you that God has a plan. If God has a plan, God has a purpose. If God has a purpose, that purpose might involve some time where you're growing. It will also involve some time where you're being pruned and gives the roots a chance to catch up with the rest of the trees. Stole that one from the movie Pure Country. Oh, Grandma Ivy.
SPEAKER_00There'll be those times.
SPEAKER_01But rest assured, because you're going to need your rest, rest assured that God has anointed you for a purpose. Find out what the purpose is. Make the demand of God. If He's anointed you, David Hurdle said, make a demand on the anointing. Step out and be obedient. And then God shows up and you go, holy cow, this thing, this thing works. It's not always uh Charlton Heston speaking to you
Step Out Obey And Watch Fruit
SPEAKER_01from the clouds, going, Moses, Moses. That's not what happens. However, when you're when you start to step out, uh a lot of times it's going to look like you're messing up, and you find out that you were falling forward, and you look back after a year or two, and you're going like, Well, Lord, uh, looks like that was you. And it's going to be beyond you, but be willing to step out, be willing to be obedient to what he's called you to do. And thank you, David Hurdle, for saying that, because it sure as heck has it left me alone, and it has encouraged me, and I want to encourage the rest of you all to go out, make the demand on the anointing, act on faith, and then watch the well, watch the Lord produce the fruit. Woe FOYO.
