An old, well-worn Bible can feel like a time machine and a mirror at the same time. C Dub shares a personal inheritance: his grandfather’s King James “Family Altar Edition,” requested and received as his father was passing. It’s not just a sentimental object. It becomes a concrete way to talk about the difference between a possession and an inheritance, and why what we hand down spiritually matters more than what we leave behind materially.

We flip through the opening pages and the message is blunt: the strength of a nation rises or falls with the strength of its homes. This Bible was designed for “Christian homes in America,” and it places responsibility where many of us would rather outsource it. Not the church. Not the school. The home. That launches a candid contrast between the mindset of decades ago and the modern Christian drift we often critique: less duty, less formation, less Scripture, and more noise.

Along the way, we read through the table of contents like a blueprint for family discipleship: building a Christian home, duties as parents, moral education, Bible stories for children, character building, marriage preparation, and how the home and the church should work together. We even dip into a mini rabbit hole on the Bible phrase “the eye of the Lord” and why careful reading beats conspiracy spins every time.

If you want a grounded push toward spiritual legacy, Christian parenting, and a deeper Bible reading habit, this short will challenge you.

Possession Versus Inheritance

SPEAKER_00

Hey everybody, welcome to another WoeFo Yo short. This is C Dub. In our previous regular episode, the one that just aired this week, Bones and I were talking about the difference between a possession and inheritance. I relayed the story that as my father was passing and we knew that was going to happen. One of the things he told me was mine, and that that's one of the things I asked for, actually, is my grandfather's Bible. Um, quick story. Uh, my grandfather was not a perfect man, uh, Grandpa Charlie. However, uh was a sincere believer despite his flaws. At one time was studying for the ministry when he was young and uh did not go that way. However, my great-grandfather, uh Charles Warenberg, uh, grandpa was the third, he was a county sheriff and also wrote a book of Christian poems, which when when I find it, I will probably read some of those as well.

A Family Altar Bible’s Message

SPEAKER_00

This is my grandpa's Bible. This is an inheritance right here, presented to Charles Warenberg. Mentioned some things during the actual full episode, and it some of the notes in here, given the mindset that we have today versus the mindset back then, it is night and day. There are some very foundational things that are in it that we don't talk about here in modern Christendom, and it's to our detriment, to be sure. Holy Bible, where it was present, at the ratification of the Constitution, at the first inauguration, and imploring God's aid in early town meetings and pioneer homes and spreading the gospel in public worship, and it has here protect us by thy might, great God our King. This is a King James version, words of Christ in red. This is called the Family Altar Edition. It says right here in the opening pages The Family Altar Edition for Christian homes in America. America is, has been, and must continue to be a nation of homes. As long as its homes are centers of righteousness and right teaching, America will be a great land. If those homes neglect their duties, America will falter and fail. The two previous pages indicate however present the influence of the Holy Bible has been in the founding and growth of our country. Never has its power for good been more necessary than today. From its pages come the wisdom for our guidance, the righteous pattern for our dealings, and the gospel of goodness, mercy, and salvation for our comfort. It is the primary responsibility of the home, didn't say the church, didn't say the school. Printed, bound, and published in the United States of America by the National Bible Press, Philadelphia. Prepared especially for Barrett Distributors, Dallas, Texas.

What’s Inside This Heirloom Bible

SPEAKER_00

Now, it has a table of contents. I also want to read you a table of contents. Again, this is called the Family Altar Edition presentation page. That's where it had my grandpa's name written in there. Front piece title, illustrating how our country was founded upon and grew great through the use of the Bible. Part one, the story of the Bible, how the Bible originated, its purpose, and how it came to us. Suggestions for its use today. Part two, the Christian home section. The family circle, the importance of the family and its possibilities for good. Building a Christian home. Religion in the life of the individual and of the family. Our duties as parents. Imparting moral education in the home. Bible stories carefully selected to be read by children. That meant it doesn't have some of the juicier tidbits that are in this book, and they are age appropriate. Bible heroes and heroines, what young people can learn from the great men and women of the Bible. Getting the most out of life. The Bible as the great guide to character building. With this ring, I thee wed, courtship, mating, and preparation for marriage. The home and the church how two great Christian institutions can work together for our good. Ye are all brothers, living successfully with our friends and neighbors. Go ye into all the world. Family readings.

The Eye Of The Lord Rabbit Hole

SPEAKER_00

How to read the Bible expressively with understanding and profit. The eye of the Lord. One of the most interesting statements in the Bible that I have. This is one of my little rabbit holes. How to have better knowledge of God the Father. There are so many phrases, especially in the Old Testament. And we get a lot of conspiracy theories about oh my gosh, it's all seeing eye. Whenever the Lord is looking in judgment, a high percentage of those times, it uses the phrase the eye of the Lord. It doesn't say the eyes of the Lord. Now there are phrases in the Bible that say the eyes of the Lord.

SPEAKER_01

However, when judgment is being rendered, when observation is being made, it uses the phrase the eye of the Lord.

SPEAKER_00

That might be another rabbit hole to jump down. Receive ye the Holy Ghost, how to have better knowledge of God's Holy Spirit. Come unto me. All the facts from the Bible regarding our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, topically arranged for easy reference. Now, this is all prior to the Bible. Now it gets in part four. The Holy Bible, Old and New Testaments, uh Christian Life Pledge, Family Record, Part Five, Bible Fact Book. It has index and dictionaries. Um part eight. Concordance to the Holy Bible and last, the most infamous of any area in the Bible and often disputed. Bible at this is part nine, the Bible Atlas and Maps.

Why Home Comes First

SPEAKER_00

Just wanted to give you a little tidbit of this inheritance of mine. Family inheritance, faith, uh, not communicated by perfect men, but faith that was communicated by practical men. Even that being so, there's no teacher like the Holy Spirit in the Word of God, because sooner or later you have to get out there on your own and actually do it. Just wanted to contrast the mindset eighty years ago versus some of the mindsets we have today that we talk about that oftentimes on this program that we critique, uh rail against at times, uh, but point out that there are responsibilities we have as believers. Keep this mindset about the importance of the family as the primary, after your own salvation, as the primary point of focus and where the kingdom of God needs to be fully manifested in your life. Because if you can do that, everything else can be built upon that. Woe fo yo.
