Bill O'Connor, the long time head coach of Rockhurst University in KC, is this month's guest on "Building with Brick." Coach O'Connor is the winningest basketball coach in the history of Rockhurst. He won multiple "Coach of Year" awards in two different conferences at the college level. He coached at the high school, junior college, small college and major college levels throughout his 41-year coaching career. He is a member of the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, inducted in 2019. In Part 1 of 4 of the podcast, Bill talks about:

Growing up in an Irish Catholic neighborhood
Being cut from the team as a freshman in high school
Being a starter on his No.1 KC ranked team as a senior in high school
Playing college basketball at a small college power

Coach O'Connor is informative and entertaining in Part 1 as he lays out for the listener the path he followed in order to pursue his dream of being a basketball coach. His resilience is obvious as you listen to him relive his playing days, which allows you a peak into why he was so successful as a coach.
