Today is a special edition of our podcast to commemorate a young woman who was truly a hero in the Revolutionary War! Betsy Dowdy rode 51 miles on her banker pony to warn of the British ships approaching our outer banks. Not only did she ride 51 miles (Paul Revere rode 7 miles) she swam the Currituck Sound on her pony and perhaps changed the course of history! It is a beautiful story written in a book geared for middle school children by Donna Campbell Smith, An Independent Spirit available on Amazon.  I think you will enjoy learning of this courageous young woman whose ride was made on Dec 6!
