Episode 34: The Next Phase with Steve Kee: Floatation Therapy with Brent Giroux of the REST Centre in Whitby
Today on The Next Phase Podcast, Brent Giroux, Owner of the REST Centre in Whitby.
Like many people who try floating for the first time, he was desperate to find relief to the chronic pain he had been living with following a serious motor bike collision in 1987 that left him in a coma for two weeks and paralyzed for two months after he awoke.
He had been an athlete and was ranked in basketball but following the accident, every step he took was painful. He says while he may have appeared fine on the outside but like many other people living with the debilitating effects of a head injury, he had difficulty concentrating and thinking. Going to places like a shopping mall or gatherings with high stimuli was so draining, he began to withdraw from society.
He was working for a psychiatrist as a behaviour therapist for people with head injuries when he first heard about floating. He wanted a non-addictive way to manage pain and decided to give it a try.
He shares his inspiring story with me today.
