New Saga: How Much Future Knowledge Can Fix a Mid Fantasy Story?

JetBlackXtreme

A crimson crystal rewinds a brutal war by four years, and suddenly the dead breathe again, the Demon King still looms, and one swordsman has knowledge no one else remembers. We dig into New Saga’s promise: a second chance to rewrite fate, protect family, and outmaneuver a court that would rather burn a kingdom than lose its grip. From the shock of true names to the weight of royal betrayal, the story pitches magic against politics and asks whether foresight is power or a curse.

We walk through the party that makes this world tick. Theron brings steel and a messy charm that hides real discipline. Lise steps in as a monk-trained striker whose jealousy never eclipses her courage. Urza binds her future to a magical contract after a dangerous slip, then unleashes a menagerie of elemental summons that light up the best sequences. Inside Kyle’s holy sword, Sidonia plays oracle and strategist, hiding the truth of a lost timeline while quietly steering the mission. Around them, Princess Melina’s tightrope act reveals the kingdom’s rot: an insecure king, a conniving brother, and a knight whose loyalty masks a darker hand.

The show’s ambition peaks where blades meet policy: governors striking secret bargains, artificers forging war machines, demons divided between peace and vengeance. We call out the strengths—clean character concepts, striking spellwork, and a world with room to grow—and the misses: uneven stakes, quick resolutions, and battles that don’t reshape the board. Our verdict lands at 6.5 to 7, with hope that future seasons push the time-loop tension, deepen the political chess, and make the cost of heroism hurt.

SPEAKER_00:

What up, what up? I want to talk about New Saga. Now, but this anime premise is after a brutal war, magic swordsman Kyle Leonard defeats the Demon King but is left eye. A crimson crystal sends him four years into the past to his once destroyed homeland where he finds his lost loved ones alive. Armed with future knowledge, Kyle vows to prevent the coming tragedy and rewrite fate. Now, good music and artwork, some saws with the colorings of the characters and the magic being casted, and on beyond with you. So he has two heroic souls inside him that will either make him extremely powerful or kill him. This also means that there are now two divine dragon hearts and between Urza and Lise. Uh, is Kyle a two-time? I don't know. I was kind of wondering what was going on with that. But, anyways, there's Theron, uh Kyle's best friend and a fellow swordsman, though unable to use magic. In the original timeline, the party was attacked by the Demon King lieutenants. Theron stayed behind to hold him off to give Kyle a chance to kill the Demon King. In the new timeline, Kyle asked him to join him in his journey to become a famous hero. He Theron appears obsessed with women and is somewhat of a pervert, but also a strong fighter. So imagine like Sonji from One Piece or Damn, I just had his name. Weiss from Eden Zero. Kind of imagine guys like them where it's like you would think, oh, the pervert character, what he's gonna do in the line. Oh, he's actually more capable than you think. Now, Liz, uh Kyle's childhood friend, whom he shares mutual free feelings with, and a proficient martial artist traded by monks. In the original timeline, Liza lived in Kyle's hometown near the border and died in the initial invasion. But in the new timeline, upon watching Kyle approach Urza, Liza uh becomes jealous and hastily decides to join him in his journey. Despite being love rivals with Urza, they also get along well. She fights with a pair of gauntlets, and crazy enough, she looks like she could be the spitting image for the IRL restaurant chain Wendy's to me. Uh Urza, she's an Elven sorceress and Kyle's lover in the original timeline. She shared her true name, uh Exus with Kyle shortly before the final battle and married him. She died protecting him from an ambush by the demon king. But in the new timeline, Kyle sees her when she is visiting his hometown and accidentally utters her true name. Uh, Urza is scared that Kyle would use her true name for nefarious purposes, so Kyle offers to sign a magical contract and be sworn to secrecy, serving as her initial reason to join him in his journey. She and Lizette get along well despite being love right, like I said before, and Urza fights using a magical bracelet that allows her to summon elemental creatures, you know, Earth, fire, water, wind. Nah, anyways, Sidonia, the prodigious queen of an ancient magically advanced empire who now exists in Kyle's Holy Sword. She was destroyed in the original timeline as a result of the battle with the demon lord. She is the only one who knows about the previous timeline that Kyle experienced, but agrees to keep it a secret by pretending that she has prophetic powers. Her true form is the gem in the holy sword, and she can take the form of a human girl or an animal. She is also known to eat a lot of uh eat a lot to preserve her magical energy, so you know she's kinda like a glutton. But arguably, she has the best clothing design in this anime, in my opinion. Then we have Melina, a cunning princess that will soon become queen. In the original timeline, she was assassinated by Zentos and her brother Acarinas, who once dethroned to himself. But the whole ordeal was actually arranged by her secretly jealous father, Ramonas. In the ultimate timeline, Kyle and his party prevent this. She hopes to tie the party closer to her nation and sends them to Karan as an undisclosed test. Now we have Zentos, uh Zentos 40. He's a knight captain who trained Kyle in the original timeline, but in the alternate timeline, he and Kyle never met, though Kyle still knows him. He and Karinas both seek to kill Melina so that Karinas can't take the throne. He is eventually killed. Well, Zentos is eventually killed by Kyle. And it is later revealed that Zentos was loyal to a fault uh working for Ramonas, who is the true mastermind behind the assassination attempt. We have Miranda, Melina's ambassador. In the prime timeline, she was the essential diplomat and administrator during the war, but in the alternate timeline, she helps Gaza with governing Koran, which I'll explain a little bit on maybe. We have Go, a magic item artificer and Gaza's stepson. In the prime timeline, he is one of the creators of a mechanical war golem adapted from ancient schematics that helped turn the tides of the war. By the way, Go is so androgynous, like it's kind of imagine Haku from Naruto. It's like you would think, is that a girl? Wait, wait, wait, no, that's a dude, but he he's wearing like girls' clothes. I I am so confused. Uh, it is what it is, but uh speaking of Gaza's, uh, he's a dwarf blacksmith and go stepfather, like I alluded to before. He eventually becomes governor, but on the condition that he can still work at the forge, you know, after the king died and went on. Now, Ghanus is one of the demons who seeks a magical sword called Rand and Karan. He was killed by Kyle. Uh, Euridia is another one of the demons who seek a magical sword called Rand and Karin. She was spared by the party, but she's kind of earnest for a demon. Uh, Saraya, Kyle's mother, and one of the few living arch mages in the human lands. In the original timeline, she also died in Demon King's army attack in Kyle's hometown. But in the new timeline, she's still alive and able to educate Kyle about the divine dragon heart. Uh, Layla is Tara's mother and Kyle's master in sword fighting. And you know, keep in mind, um, Ventos was his teacher in the previous timeline. So, in this one, it was Tera's mother that taught Kyle sword fighting. Now, Layla, she volunteers her son to join Kyle's journey, and you don't really see her after like episode one. So, yeah. Uh, Karinas. Um, Karinas is uh incompetent but also power-hungry brother of Melina. He seeks to kill his sister to take the throne for himself with Zento's help, but this plan fails, and he was arrested. Arco and Nino's are two of Melina's maids, with Arco possessing uh fire magic. Uh, we have Kilrin, who is Melina's bodyguard, Ramonas, who's Melina's and Karina's father. Although he seems friendly in public, he's actually insecure, selfish, and uncaring. He is later revealed to be the true mastermind behind his daughter's assassination attempt because he knows she will be a far greater ruler than him, and he cannot stand the thought of his legacy only being remembered as her father and not a king in its own right. Jesus Kyle ended up killing him to ensure that he cannot try and kill his daughter again. We have Alzar, uh Gargan's court sorcerer, who's also an old friend of Saraia's. Uh, we have Bax, uh, Karen's governor, who was who has been cloistered for months, citing an illness. He made a deal with two demons to say Karen only be betrayed. He soon dies from his injuries, and that's how uh Gaza became the next governor. And then we have Ruza, who's the ruler of the demons, the demon king, the current demon king. She has no desire for war, but some demons are dissatisfied with her choice and attempt to force her out of power, so that's an interesting thing about that. So, not gonna lie, I thought this anime, or at least this season, was kind of mad. Like, even though you see them fighting and killing with blood being spilled out, but it just didn't impress me like I hope, based on the premise of rewriting the fate of oneself, their loved ones, and their home. If more seasons get picked up, I hope to see some spectacle like in the War of Magician or World of One and Sword, which by the way is getting a second season, and I'm really happy about that. But for the time being, I'm thinking 6.5, maybe a 7 out of 10 on a good day. Just I was kind of hoping for more. So, with that being said, I'm gonna close this review out. Go ahead and take it easy, and stay tuned for more nerdy news and reviews. And by the way, yeah, like I know we haven't done the nerdy news in a while, but we're gonna get back to that next year in 2026. But yeah.
