A weapon that can become almost anything sounds unbeatable, until you remember the monsters are evolving too. We dig into Hundred, an action-heavy anime where Slayers wield transforming “Hundreds” to fight the Savages threatening Earth, and we break down why the premise is simple, effective, and sometimes underused.

We walk through Hayato Kisaragi’s arrival at the Marine Academy on Little Garden, the instant attention he gets for his entrance scores, and the duel that defines the early tone: Hayato vs Claire Harvey, the school’s top Slayer and “Queen Bee.” From there, the story accelerates into the Selections unit, field missions, and fights where teamwork matters right up until it doesn’t. We also unpack the emotional hinge of the plot: Emily’s real identity as Emilia, the rescued girl from Hayato’s past, and the Variant virus that pushes them beyond normal limits.

From empire politics and rivalry duels with Claudia to the darker thread of experiments involving Savage fluid and the mystery around Lisa, the series keeps mixing school drama with monster combat. We also tackle the mecha question head-on: no giant robots here, but powered suits and weapon systems still place Hundred in the mecha-adjacent lane alongside other suit-focused shows. We close with our bottom line: strong artwork, fair pacing, action that delivers, fan service that doesn’t completely drown the stakes, and a final score of 7.5 out of 10.

Mecha Monday Kickoff

SPEAKER_00

What up, gang? It's the Zone Podcast, and we're back at it again with another Mecha Monday.

What Hundred Is And Why

SPEAKER_00

Today's topic is hundreds. Hundreds are a kind of weapon that get their name from their ability to change into many different forms and are the only thing that can counter the mysterious life forms called savages that are attacking Earth. Those who can wield a hundred are sought out to be made into slayers, trained individuals that who can use them in combat to become a

slayer. Hayoto Kisaragi successfully enrolls in the Marine Academy's city ship on Little Garden. However, he feels a strange yet familiar sense of incongruity towards Emily's, I believe it's pronounced Emily. Emily Crossport, his roommate who somehow knows him from somewhere. On top of that, shortly after he entered school, he ends up getting challenged to a duel by the Queen, uh quote unquote, and the school's most powerful slayer, Claire Harvey. Now, because Hyoto has high scores for entrance, schoolmates have been treating him like a celebrity. Two girls tried to escort him to the academy, but he ran off out of embarrassment as a result from being late to the opening ceremony. The two girls were going to be expelled until a challenge by the Queen Bee is issued to Hyoto. He is to duel Claire to prevent the two girls and Emily, who also spoke out against the Queen Bee from getting expelled. Hyoto and Claire ends up going full armament in their duel. Hyoto lost in the traditional sense, but because she had no choice but to use full armament, Claire lost her bet to herself. A duel concluded in a tie, for him. After the duel, Claire and the student council invite Hyoto to be a barterguard of swords under a special unit called the Selections. Emily then wishes to join Hyato and transformed then and there, willing to prove

himself. The duel between him and Liddy ends abruptly due to a savager on Sway Islands. Hyoto, Emily, Claire, Liddy, and Erica deal with three savages. The third one was giving them trouble, but Hyoto was able to ultimately deal with it in a berserk mindset. Turns out that Emily is Emilia, a girl that Hyato saved years. Uh actually I won't say like because that means his her name's actually Amelia, but since he was kind of cosplaying as a boy, I guess she was going by Emile. See, that was the thing like it kind of see it spells E-M-I-L E. So if it dropped the second E, then I would say Emil. But the extra E kind of threw me off a little bit. I'm sorry. But yes, Emilia. Uh a girl that he saved uh years ago, but they both contract a virus that makes them stronger than normal slayers called variants. Also, Claire clearly likes Hayato at this point. By the way, expect this to be one of those hero mecha anime things. Hayato's first mission as a bodyguard was to look after a popular idol soccer who fell in love with him since the Zwe Islands incident. Sad backstory Hayato fights another savage, yada yada yada. Hayato and his friends enjoy the beach when Claire's brother named Judo Harvey arrived via helicopter to pick up his sister.

Selections Missions And Divine Blood

SPEAKER_00

Later, Claire announces to Hayato, Amelia, Lancia, and Fritz about a savage cleanup operation to be conducted by them along with a United Nations peacekeeping force at the Empire of Quinn. Later drafts the he excuse me, damn. He later drafts the latter two to become official members of the selections. Afterward, Udol invites Hayato to accompany him as they visit Lisa or Liza, how you want to pronounce it. Claire arrives with a gun and threatens her brother for revealing the secret, but Judo reveals Hayato has divine blood that could help Liza gain consciousness. Typical protagonist ass pulls. Judo asks Hayato to try to awaken their sister, but to no avail. After the confrontation, Hayato promises Claire to he will keep their younger sister's stats a secret.

Empire Arc Claudia Duel And Patrol

SPEAKER_00

And Hayato and his friends then arrive to Tianquan City, where he met a girl named Claudia Louetti, excitingly meeting Amelia. He then learns about the latter status as the third princess of the uh Gutenberg Empire named Amelia Gutenberg. Claudia persuades her to return to the Empire, but Amelia declines because she wants to be with Hyato, causing a jealous Claudia to challenge him in a duel at a dojo. After he won the match against Claudia, Hyato accompanies Amelia as they visit a shopping district when the hunters in hooded outfits pass by them. Claudia joins Hyato, Amelia, Claire, and Erica in their clearing of the mountain area from Savages. By the nightfall, Hyato, Claire, and Claudia are tasked next to do the night patrol after Amelia and Erica's turn. Claudia tricks Hyoto and Claire to go on a date near a lake to make Amelia jealous, but the latter is not convinced by the former's deception. They spotted and defeated a savage. Arrive at a lake where she took a bath and revealed to him how her mother named Linus Harvey modified Lisa's body at birth by injecting a savage fluid to make her into a variant.

Hunters Attack And Series Formula

SPEAKER_00

He then receives a distress call from a squad about the hunters attacking them. Fritz managed to send a flare to request reinforcement as his fellow squad members get knocked down, and their hundreds are taken by the hunters who were present in the Grand Canyon. Flair arrives in time to save Fritz's squad. Beyond this, you can say that the series is a mix of the main cast fighting uh Vidally and the hunters, them fighting savages and schoolyard shenanigans with the occasional fan service. I know there's no giant robots being piloted by people, but powered suits are considered a subgenre of mecha anime. So in that aspect, shows such as Hybrid Heart and Infinite Strados count. And by the way, I'm gonna be reviewing those next. I would say data live as well, but it felt more like a supernatural romance with a rival faction that has mecha-like elements to their weaponry. So it felt iffy to include that for Mecha Monday. But teenagers fighting giant monsters using power suits that look like mecha weapons, yeah, that feels more right.

Mecha Genre Debate And Final Score

SPEAKER_00

So, yeah, ultimately, this anime hundred, I would say it has good artwork, straightforward plot with fair pacing, bonus points for using different songs for the ending theme. The hundreds are kind of cool, but not that impressive. Fair amount of action and the fan service is sprinkled in evenly throughout the 12 episodes without watering down the more serious side of the story. So, on that note, I give hundred a 7.5 out of 10. With that being said, go ahead and have yourself a good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good night. But ultimately, stay nerdy and remember that great things are coming. I'm gonna go ahead and zoom about it here, and you take it easy.
