Trump MAULS Newsom Lawsuit Against National Guard!
After President Trump activated several thousand California National Guardsmen to protect Federal property and personnel in riot-torn Los Angeles, California Governor Gavin Newsom initially did nothing—for the good reason that he had no lawful basis on which to prevent Trump’s lawful activation of the Guard.
Twenty-four hours later, however, as conditions in California’s largest city continued to deteriorate, rather than address the crisis in Los Angeles directly, Newsom ran to a Federal court in San Francisco on Tuesday, June 9, and demanded a ex parte temporary restraining order—on in which the White House is not present to argue its side--be issued against Trump’s activation of the Guard by 1 PM that day.
Not only did the federal court decline to issue an ex parte TRO on the imperious schedule of Gavin Newsom—the effect of which would have been to leave unprotected billions of dollars of Federal property and thousands of Federal personnel—the assigned Judge Charles Bryer ordered both sides to present written arguments within two days, and scheduled an in-court hearing for today, June 12.
