But , yeah , make sure you check out the the link tree to get your hitty nice merch . And again , I appreciate the support . Now , this is a really nega five podcast right now , because niggas is late , but that's to be expected , so they'll be joining in shortly , but right now I got a . Yeah a regular guess .
Speaker 1Yeah , you can say regular guess and the other niggas are joining in on regular guess , but it's been a year since all of us have been on the podcast , so it's about time to get niggas back on the show . I let the nigga that was punctual speak first and introduce himself .
Speaker 3Wow , man , you're such a good host , james , I'm just enamored by your technical skill . The muscle man , whatever man , no , for real . I'm like wow , I can tell you really been getting your reps in doing this shit for me this but a couple years . Now . We're like six , six yeah man , that's awesome , it's me little turns . Aka Mars . Aka Uncle Mars , aka Brother Mars , aka police state . Aka that dude that used to work at Vintage Vinyl back in the day , mr Rube boy himself . How y'all doing , yes , sir ?
Speaker 1So yeah , niggas is in town . Niggas pulled up for our high school homecoming , the Mecca . We pulled up to the Mecca last night .
Speaker 2What the hell , which is crazy .
Speaker 1But yeah , shout out to Cardinal Ritter , man doing a really great job . Shout out to Mike , specifically Mike Jones , over there , specifically wanting to build an alumni network to get former students , who are really doing great things , to come back to the school , because there was that was kind of missing .
Speaker 1You know we are a the only predominantly black private Catholic school in the city , I believe , or whatever , with very strong ties and strong traditions , for sure , man , and there's a lot of people that have , you know , gone through the school and now are out here doing really great things and you know the fact that it's time to like , yeah , you know , you got to take care of home , you got to bring a lot of those gyms back , you know , and make them feel welcome . So shout out to Mike for that man for putting that together .
Speaker 1Because last night was really , really dope to see a variety of different classes and , if you know , there's a lot , a lot of St Louis shit going on right now . But yeah , cardinal Ritter has a rich tradition here in the city , man , and so classes that started over in the in the hood and Walnut Park , you know , over there , on that you know we're there last night and then our people from our class that you know only know the school on on spring , on North spring or whatever went through there all four years and stuff like that .
Speaker 1It was just a nice mixture of a lot of classes , even the classes that graduated in 2013 , which is 10 , 10 years ago , and shit like that were there . So like it was , it was , it was thick in there .
Speaker 4It was a lot . It was a lot of dope .
Speaker 1A lot of tailgating , good food , good vibes . You know the mayor pulled up , you know Tishara made it to Shard , you know Jones or whatnot came through and it was just really , really a dope vibe . And on top of that we drive 70 on them . So like it was really , really dope pulling up the homecoming . But yeah , that was that . That's your first . That's been your first time going back there since .
Speaker 3Yeah , yeah , yeah . It felt like a HBCU home , like a mini HBCU homecoming for sure , definitely . It was dope . Shout out to the old dudes in the bike gang as well . They had the leather jackets and everything . I'm like damn like the Cardinal Ritter brand is pretty strong . I know we probably getting some eye rolls from some listeners like here y'all niggas go again .
Speaker 1But I mean you city do the same thing , though you city's lit , you city's another really dope school that's got a nice deep tradition as well .
Speaker 3But like , just shout out to the schools that do have that , because St Louis is such a big like high school culture is so big in the city anyway , and just asking people what school you want to , and yada , yada , yada , so actually kind of seeing that . So I remember being younger and like maybe my grandparents or something like that will like be talking about you know , like class 70 , beaumont reunion , yada , yada , yada and those type of kickbacks . But one I guess it was a reminder like of how close knit the Cardinal Ritter community and lineage is . But also , um , yeah , we getting old , I definitely I felt like I should be mentoring some of those kids . So once again shout out to like Mike Jones for starting to set up that alumni network and things like that Cause , um , you put your kids in CRCP , they probably going to do some decent with themselves in life . Yeah for sure .
Speaker 1Yeah yeah , you hit on a good boy , cause I think about my dad , like my whole , my whole dad side of the family . They all went to a Sumner . So , like that Sumner Bulldog tradition is like super thick Cause , that's another , that's another . That was a public like predominantly black school . I believe so , like you know , they .
Speaker 3I think they was like they won quite a few like state titles and all this stuff back then . Right , I have no idea .
Speaker 1Okay , I have no idea , but I just you know , speaking to like the tradition of who all went there , except , if I remember correctly , like Tina Turner went there too . Let me fact check myself real quick . But , yeah , like there's your like public school in U cities , another one where they like super . You know the camaraderie and like I went to U city like they take pride in that shit or whatever . Cause , you know , we , we are like where'd you go to high school ? Right ?
Speaker 4Right .
Speaker 1City and that kind of gives you a barometer of like you know , how you grew up and how you were , you know right , right , right what you were exposed to and stuff like that .
Speaker 3But yeah , I know you mentioned like U city . That just reminds me of kind of like like U city is almost like a big ass neighborhood too . So it really do be a lot of like U city . People that like know each other , you really like went through , you know you probably want to bring the woods to yada yada yada and it just kind of like beat his whole thing . And then they're like after you graduate and move back to St Louis , you probably end up settling in , settling in around U city or actually in U city and your kids kind of go there .
Speaker 3So I don't know , I was just really looking at like family and tradition and the community in like a different type of lens or whatever , especially with me like coming , just coming back home as well , instead of like living here day to day . It was just super nice to like run into old friends we went to school with . You know like just tap in with people . You see folks , you know social media , yada , yada , yada , but nothing even like a good five , 10 minute chat and really like talking to somebody in real life about how they go , how they doing . It was just all love too yesterday and we put up 70 on them . It was a really good vibe .
Speaker 1So Sumner , chuck Berry , tina Turner , arthur Ashe , grace Grace Bumbry and Dick Gregory .
Speaker 3Damn , I didn't even know Arthur Ashe was from here . That's a crazy one . I missed that . See , man . Yeah , yeah , st Louis man , hey , look , we are great , prominent American , but also just a dope ass black American city as well . We wanted to chocolate cities .
Speaker 1Bro yeah , St Louis , St Louis , USA , not St Louis .
Speaker 3Misery .
Speaker 1For sure For sure , but nah , you were speaking to getting older , which is something that , like , has been heavy on my mind because , like I said , 2013 was there last night and it was like their 10 year reunion .
Speaker 3Yeah , yeah , yeah , we started in 2003 .
Speaker 1Right .
Speaker 4Which means we started high school 20 years ago .
Speaker 3It's coming up on that time . I was thinking about that last night too . Like damn it's supposed to be . We still got a couple of years left , but we creeping up on that like 20 or 30 .
Speaker 4Yeah , we got four years before it's 20 years .
Speaker 3Yeah , because what the 15 would have been what last year ? I don't think anything . No , that was like a little something I feel like I saw folks talking about , but I don't think it was like a big thing 2017 was 10 when we graduated . Yeah 2022 would have been 15 . Yeah , yeah , yeah , shit .
Speaker 1Yeah , so we're getting older .
Speaker 4Yeah .
Speaker 1How does that make you feel , because you're the youngest out of all of us .
Speaker 3I am . I started school early too , so I'm like on that bottom age realm of a students' fire class . But I don't know , man , I've been like I don't know , talking to my therapist about it and like other stuff . It's not a bad thing . Shout out that we have been able to kind of like start to lock in and like go study with like a career and you know , like the basic things that not necessarily everybody is blessed enough to have . We at least have like those necessities . So that's cool .
Speaker 3But one I think is it's kind of like that feeling of your like you know your body is changing Also , like your , your perception of things is changing . Maybe attitudes are shifting as well , and just also kind of like I don't know , it's a little dark , it's not that heavy , but at the same time it's like a real thing , but like death is closer to you as well and it's just kind of like how do you want to maximize your time here ? Because it's not like we're not 15 , 16 or whatever , no more , like the kids that we went and like saw play yesterday
Reflections on Life and Future Goals
Speaker 3. So it's kind of like you know how we really doing whatever we like . Are we doing what we need to do in order to kind of like lock in or like solidify whatever legacy we trying to like lead and like . Are we actually , you know , getting closer to manifesting whatever goes the dreams we set out for ? Because , ultimately , I mean , without like religion and God and all that aside , I really feel like we mostly just kind of here to like procreate and like maybe spread love , you know , and he throw in , like you know , god got out of worship .
Speaker 3Getting closer to him , you know , that's a whole nother layer on it , but outside of like the rat race of capitalism and like having to survive , what is it that you want to do with your time while you're here , you know ? So just really been having like just asking those questions . I feel like I'm doing what I should be doing , so that's okay , but it's also like trying to strategize and and move towards growth and like what does growth actually look like ? Is it money for money's sake ? Are we talking wealth , generational wealth ? Is it just like have fun , you know ? So on and so forth . So it's a bunch of different layers to it . It's a whole bunch of different layers to it . What's up ? Guess ? Number two on the show today just walked in . But yeah , it's so many layers to just thinking about life . It's very existential . Like I say , I ain't trying to be super deep , but you know we only got one life to live , bro , and it's all really about how do you maximize your time here , how do you feel about that ?
Speaker 1so the other guest has walked in the building . Finally , you know no social media eclay we were just chopping it up about . We were just chopping it up about being at homecoming last night .
Speaker 3Yeah , I just happened to be talking about life and getting stuff like that , which eclay has some life changes .
Speaker 1That has happened , you know , since he's been on the pot . Last time he was on the podcast too yeah , we were talking about the homecoming and how that felt being there last night amongst all those classes . You know the Mecca , lot of lot of Mecca , the Mecca , lot of . You know black , you say .
Speaker 1Black love you know , oh yeah for you know , for for the school and whatnot . And then trans , you know that , crossing over into just life in in general , because we started high school 20 years ago , 20 years ago no social media eclay in this bitch , let me get that out the way .
Speaker 2My father , j wife , brother , be a lady guy got three kids . That ain't no excuse , so for real . But yes , speaking of homecoming , it was great yesterday being out there , man . The love was there . It was good seeing everybody you thought you knew . You probably wouldn't speak to a few people you thought you knew but recognized , but overall the love was there , man . I loved it . It was great . Seeing everybody just hugging niggas being in niggas presence was wonderful . Yeah , it was great , man . I wish I could go to the festivities in it tonight , but yeah , that ain't gonna happen , but yeah it was . It was all love , man . We raped them to , we raped board hard on word
Speaker 1man you know what I mean .
Speaker 3No , it was .
Speaker 4It was a bitch , no we have already said , we hung 70 on a .
Speaker 1We ran it up . Man too much to say , we ran it up .
Speaker 2My life changes , man , I know you do that in there . Life has been great . I moved back from Dallas . I told your mom a month ago but it's been two months , bro . I've been back for two months now . I like Dallas , but that wasn't what my heart is , man . My heart is here in the Lou bruh and , yeah , man , it's been good so far because I got my . I'm back here with my folks . I was out of Dallas . I didn't have nobody down there , so that was . That was kind of tough at times , but yeah , I love . I love being back home and it ain't no place like hold up and I feel like my creative juices flow more in St Louis for some reason , like I was telling y'all niggas and I was telling Morgan the other day like , yeah , I'll be feeling music a lot more now and yeah , I feel I feel more when I'm here in St Louis . Not sure what that means , but yeah , it's a sign or so .
Speaker 1It's hard to explain , bro , like it's not hard to explain it is . I feel more insane . Lose . It is connected . You feel more connected , bro . You feel more connected . Usually you're around the shit that mattered to you which is why I'm talking about how does it feel to get older , because niggas is closing in on 35 , 36 . You got three kids . You wanted to move back to have them around , planted around your your mom , your dad , your sister , your brother or whatever you didn't have .
Speaker 1You had somewhat of a community down in Dallas , but you didn't have this community family so that's what you thrive off of you like no , I need family right now actual fact and the last guest has finally arrived in this motherfucker the director , film director himself , the comedian extraordinaire himself , the skit master himself . Right , aladar Akbar Muhammad Malachi . The deal has finally arrived the cord y'all straight started without me .
Speaker 1That's how I know I'm on time after me , so I got a . Yeah , that's what's up , so all right . But what we were talking about you can't relate to the corner of the shit , cuz you went to Luther North that's cool .
Speaker 5I missed the part that I need to miss you miss this dropping 70 ?
Speaker 1yes , yes , but no , we were talking about what's been over to you , cuz I haven't had you on since you done the movie you say y'all school drop 70 we drop 70 on the line I try to get up there with my school , then I see you fun matchup
Speaker 2if y'all as good as us bruh no , they , they Luther and North brother .
Speaker 5They .
Speaker 3I get drop 80 on Hazelwood Central a couple weeks ago mmm it's good competition . We supposed to play them in district yeah , so we'll .
Speaker 1We'll see what happened with that , but no , I haven't had you on . Like I was telling Mars when we started , it's been a year since all of us been on the podcast . Okay , so like life be happening , whatever . So , like you , it's your turn to catch niggas up on , like what's going on with you . And then how you , how do you feel as the old you , the oldest nigga in the group ? Coming in on 36 coming in on 36 you know crazy was was was was life looking like for you , right ?
Speaker 5now , man , I'm kind of living it a day at a time . I even go out of you , bro , like you know , making plans and then trying to execute them the best I can . You know , really trying to figure out my next move . People been reaching out to me about more movie projects , but it's kind of like any any other thing , like if you finally get a project out there , a lot of people reach out to you . You kind of got to sort through it to find out which is legit , right , who's really serious about putting in the work to actually make it happen , because a lot of people want to be part of something great . But when it kind of get down to the nitty gritty of actually making things happen in and executing , like you can kind of see people start falling off . So everybody is shooting the gym like Kobe .
Speaker 3How do you ?
Speaker 2decide that , though man who's in it for the long run and who's not things like .
Speaker 5It means so , like right now , like a real tedious project is getting a script together . So it's like , fam , like if I reach out to you , you know I'm like I need an outline for this . Or you know I'm saying , have you gone over this ? I'll reach out . You know I'm saying , and if you respond back like I'm working on it , cool , I get it . Life happens . A month later , six weeks later , we still having the same conversation .
Speaker 2I'll be like you know , I'm saying I cool , I must .
Speaker 5I'm personally gonna stop bringing it up . I'm a move on you know I'm saying and then you know you get those things like people you know aren't a lot of the same circles as far as , like a lot of these are comedians reaching out to me , type , deal , maybe like yo , what's up with this ? Or what's up with that .
Speaker 2I'm like you tell me , like we know the same thing , you know ?
Speaker 5I'm saying like I said you are outlining three weeks ago . I ain't heard nothing back from it . You know I'm saying you talking to me like you know I'm saying so it's just more about like you know how they say it like just just knowing how to move , type deal . Yeah , you know I'm saying cuz it honestly , with this type of projects , like this type of business , it do be stuff where people will put some stuff on the back burner for a year or two years and pick it back up like that's realistically what happens yeah , art , it's like and it's like you know it's not really what you know .
Speaker 5It could be like somebody's being lazy , or it could be . You just don't have the resources until a certain amount of time happens for you , and then that happens and that enables you to do whatever . Yeah , so you know I'm saying everything is really about timing , but you know it's just , you know it's . This is really the weed now process , and then also making sure that I set myself up to have something because , like , I'm not saying people will forget about you , but I'm at the point now where people are like okay , you did this , no one else , you know , we don't know a lot of people that have done this before . What's next ? So I have to make sure I'm able to achieve the what's next , which can be stressful , but it is what it is , though .
Speaker 1That's real shit . Yeah , man all right , that's real shit . Same here on this end . It's like what's next ? I've been at this shit for six years , so it's kind of like like niggas know what Henny Knight's quote unquote is , or whatever . But it's like okay . Like how do I push the brand ? If you want to say that , we'll say that forward , and so it's like okay , or how extra you're trying to be when you hit the next level .
Speaker 5Yeah , because you can really go too extra .
Speaker 1You know what I'm saying yeah , yeah , yeah , and it's like a balance of that . It's like do I really have like the bandwidth to go to be hella extra or do I want it to continue just being able to do like some cool ass shit . Like yeah , nigga has a podcast , he has a following , he got merch , he got this and that . It's like okay , well , do you actually want to put your face out there now or whatever . You know what I'm saying ? Like you can see my face if you go to like my pages and shit like that . But actually like oh , this nigga's face is literally out there on .
Speaker 3YouTube . Yeah , you outside .
Speaker 1We doing interview . Interview type shit or whatever where we can put a name and a face together and shit like that and then doing events or doing engagements or live podcasts or whatever . Previously I was like , yeah , I'm not quite there yet , but at the six year mark it's like all right , bro , what are we doing ? Right ?
Speaker 4right , right , you really want to take it there .
Speaker 1Do you want to be extra ? You know cause ? You gotta be a little bit cuckoo to believe in yourself . A little bit like nigga , I can do this shit . You got to have a little bit of delusion on that shit , but then when you fucking execute on this , like yeah , nigga , I did that shit . So , in the same way that Mars was talking about before y'all got here , or whatever , like not , not no mid , like crisis shit , but like niggas , like niggas be saying like black people like to play or whatever , but like at 34 , 30 , 35 , it's like you can't really afford to really be playing .
Speaker 2Like that . You can still afford to be figuring yourself out , though you should always be figuring yourself out , but you got to move it , but like you have like no direction , Exactly exactly .
Speaker 1Or purposefully moving bro .
Speaker 3It's like Cause when niggas just be playing too much . They not focusing on anything , they just fucking playing around .
Speaker 1Yeah , it's like how many things can you throw out ? Throw out the wall before you like , bro , I gotta pill it .
Speaker 5Like yeah , yeah .
Speaker 4None of this .
Speaker 1None of this shit is working . I gotta figure out something in order to whatever it is that you want to achieve and stuff like that . And so , like I said , it's not no midlife crisis type shit , but like there are a lot of things that like even last year that I'm taking serious now that I probably weren't wasn't taking serious , like even not not the morbid shit , like a nigga closer to death or whatever Cause like I mean , we all got a piece out of this motherfucker at some point .
Speaker 2Yeah , but you said we closer to death than we are for birth . I was , I was . I mean , far as that . Yeah , yeah , yeah , I was just thinking about yeah , yeah , yeah .
Speaker 1I mean , we're not kids , no more .
Speaker 5Yeah , statistically I can't speak for you niggas Any year old nigga call us kids I mean we
Speaker 1are we like to him ? We are .
Speaker 3Yeah , to a third or so .
Speaker 5I don't know about you niggas , I think I'm I'm trying to be around for a minute .
Speaker 3I mean , he's not saying checking out , but he's saying we're .
Reflections on Life's Stages and Responsibilities
Speaker 1I was telling my therapist this other the other day . I feel like I'm in act two of my life .
Speaker 2Yeah , Like yeah .
Speaker 1Act one was one , you know , got you , got you . Yeah , you know when I was starting to build an identity about myself to about I would say maybe 30 , like last year I was like , yeah , that's act one of my life , bro . One value one through 34 , nigga Act two is 35 to whatever is about to happen . And when I , when I consider act two done , then it's act three .
Speaker 5You know what I'm saying but like You're trying to have an act for equally .
Speaker 2Dude , I was gonna say I'll probably don't act like 10 , but I agree with you . No , because you're like , I'm broken up into sub , you like to ?
Speaker 5sing 10 , my dude Like yeah , yeah , See you ain't even act my dude yeah , right , right right , you were singing 10 .
Speaker 4Yeah , that's right yeah .
Speaker 1Act one through 34 got some shit in it nigga Like yeah , yeah , yeah . You know how like the MCU is broken up , Like the infinity stone like yeah , nigga . That was the infinity stone saga .
Speaker 4Now we're in the the multi first bullshit or whatever . We're trying to figure everything out or whatever .
Speaker 1But like thinking about that is like okay , like when do you just want to start a family , you know , because my situation is a little unique or whatever . You know because planning that out and then also like with my folks but I'm blessed to still have them and they , you know , still be in good health and everything , and I don't take that for granted but also like , what does that look like ? Because they're getting older , as I'm getting older .
Speaker 2One of the reasons I had to bounce back to bro . I want them to enjoy my kids while they're still able to , bro , and had been here my mom , she'd be a smile for me to hear on her face every weekend we come over to .
Speaker 1Yeah , so yeah , like , and that gives your parents purpose . You feel me Exactly , bro .
Speaker 2Like my pops love that for me to ask him to do so . Bro , I find a random task for them to do it . He is doing it too sad .
Speaker 1They want to have purpose . They want to have it .
Speaker 5They also retired too .
Speaker 4Yeah , my pops . My pops be like that nigga be bored .
Speaker 5Yeah , that's how my mom is , too , tickering with shit in his library .
Speaker 1We got to find him something to do you know what I'm saying , like my mom's .
Speaker 5Make sure it's safe , though , because I was talking to my homeboy . He told me that his dad , like , took the lawnmower and took it down to the basement to go work on it .
Speaker 2Not in the basement bro .
Speaker 5And he's like fam , you're 68 .
Speaker 2Right right , right . What if you would have hurt yourself ? Right exactly , or their fumes nigga in the contained areas .
Speaker 5Whatever it was , the nigga was tripping yeah .
Speaker 3Could have at least asked somebody to help him . Oh , he took it down some steps .
Speaker 2Yeah , all of that .
Speaker 3He wildin' bro Like chill and he just like he said when he got over he said the pen is my nigga .
Speaker 5When he got over there he was like what you doing , man ? Like what you on Like .
Speaker 3It's because sometimes you got to talk to your people like that too , like , hey , you like doing too much right now , man , bring it back down . Yeah , my pops are definitely a fucking .
Speaker 1y'all know my pops Like he chill when y'all come around . But I know it yeah .
Speaker 4So like he can't sit still , yeah , I don't think Sometimes .
Speaker 1I'll be like yo , just chill . Right , right , right , you don't have to like go in like like 10 to the yard . You just did it like three days ago , you know like just relax , but he's like routine and like I have to have like something to do and move around , which I mean that keeps you tight up that keeps you locked in up top and it keeps you spying , stuff like that .
Speaker 1So like on one end I respected , but on the other end it's like bro , like yeah , y'all getting old , yeah , you know what I'm saying . So , yeah , thoughts of just having thoughts about that and what that looks like , and just like career stuff . You know I've had so many changes like landing jobs , thinking like , oh yeah , this , it , and then that done , that fall through , and just like you know , not saying that my sense of identity is tied to a job or whatever . But you want , I'm a nigga that needs stability .
Speaker 1Right , so like in order to execute the outlandish shit that I want to do , I need to have stability and so , like when that gets rocky or that falls through , you know that fucking shakes up everything for me or whatever and I'll be like when niggas funds fucked up . Yeah , yeah , put down down back .
Speaker 4Call it toxic masculinity , or you won't , though , but like when the nigga money ain't right .
Speaker 1Yeah , you'll sit down .
Speaker 5Everything else Like you can't even . You can't even enjoy yourself .
Speaker 1Right .
Speaker 5You just be sitting down like damn . I'm like , I'm really broke like in three days .
Speaker 2You can have a real deal fake for a break . It ain't gonna feel the same . It's not gonna be the same .
Speaker 5Now you know when you broke like it's broken and it's like ass broke . Like we know how to not be as broke .
Speaker 2But that broke Well , you just like damn you look at your account and you're like damn , you're like I'm chilling . This is the weekend , Right yeah , the next couple of weekends Right .
Speaker 1It's that year my boy , yeah yeah , it's summertime over , yeah .
Speaker 4Right .
Speaker 1Summer ended in June . You're like damn till you bounce back and type shit , but like , yeah man , like shit just gets . Shit is a little bit more serious , you know to me or whatever .
Speaker 5now , well , I think it's because it's like we have . We actually have something to lose , Like yeah . You know when you always thought you had something to lose , like 10 years ago . But if you look at it in perspective to now , it's like yo , like I actually have like real stuff to lose , yeah , yeah .
Speaker 5Yeah , man like just I was just thinking like , yeah , what if I'd lost my car ? Like fam , like the car I was driving like 10 years ago was like 6k 5k . Like I could have bounced back from that in like eight months maybe a year , Right right . You know what I'm saying . Like now , like I lose my job , my car , like where I live at , like fam , that ain't no eight . That might be yeah . Yeah , I might be down for like some years .
Speaker 2Yeah , yeah . I feel like I had none to lose till I had Yara , honestly , and that was only four and a half years ago .
Speaker 3Yeah , time be flying boy . I mean which ?
Speaker 5is true , because it's like you in charge of another person .
Speaker 3Yeah , yeah , you know what I'm saying . Like , their life is in your hands .
Speaker 5Like you know what I'm saying . Like if you mess your life up for two years , like you know what I'm saying . Like you did that to yourself . Like you can take you mess her life up for two years , you don't know how that's going . A factor , yeah , and that's just thinking about that in general is scary , you know .
Speaker 1So real nigga activity .
Speaker 2Yeah , for real .
Speaker 1Yeah , do rag and .
Speaker 3I mean , like the thing is , you can still have fun . Nobody's saying like life , like you've got to take life super seriously , but you should take it more seriously because , like Phil said , you know like there is shit that you can lose and , in your instance , like there are people that depend on you . Like you know , we don't necessarily have kids . We might help family or friends out or you know whatever . Yada , yada , yada , but you actually have like , literally on the paper , it says dependent , so like yeah , so you want to type a different situation ?
Speaker 3my boy yeah .
Speaker 1Yeah , yeah , reminisce on that nigga .
Parenting Styles and Balancing Competitiveness
Speaker 2I am .
Speaker 1You and your folk kids nigga , they got got three kids , folk kids . Yeah , I'm speaking another language . You want ?
Speaker 3that son don't you , I do .
Speaker 2You want that son , don't you ? I do , but I don't Get this expensive too .
Speaker 1So I feel like and it's a lot of just like time and that folks went on .
Speaker 2Yeah , I was going to say . I was worried about that the other day Me still focusing on what I like to do , but still propelling them and what they like to do and I just thought it's just a balance , like I just got to figure the time and , yeah , I might sacrifice a little sleep , but I do think sleep is important , so I make sure to get my rest every day .
Speaker 5You think they going to inherit your like , your competitive nature , like , yes , you are .
Speaker 2It's a good and bad . Because you are so she , she won't try something . But if she doesn't think she good at it , and that's kind of concerning at times because it's like no , you still have to try . I know you don't want to lose , but she's so worried about losing to her big sister she ain't going to try it . If she does , she's not good at it . But I want to prepare her to make sure she actually gives someone a shot .
Speaker 4Right , right , but yeah , she , they definitely got your daughter .
Speaker 5Yeah , yeah , that's your daughter Like yeah , and if I can't , if I don't think I can win , nah , man , I need to go out there Logan is gain in her competitiveness First , like when y'all came and saw her play soccer .
Speaker 2She wouldn't as feisty as she usually is , but she'd be feisty when she played soccer .
Speaker 5You was out there . He was like oh yeah , get it . He was out there . Oh , king Richard . Yeah , I was like get it .
Speaker 1Oh yeah , get it . You said to the ball what are you ?
Speaker 5Y'all see that Get back on defense . Get back on defense . He wasn't even rooting for the other kids .
Speaker 4They had like this hook .
Speaker 3Yeah .
Speaker 5They had like this Husky Mexican kid out there that that could like kick the ball real hard .
Speaker 4I'm like , bro , just move them closer to go and get it .
Speaker 5He wasn't even focused on it . He was like what is she doing ?
Speaker 1Go get the ball from him . Yeah , bro , it was really crazy .
Speaker 2Are you a Tiger ?
Speaker 1parent . Elliot , what's a Tiger parent ?
Speaker 3That's basically like .
Speaker 1Tiger , tiger Woods .
Speaker 3Yeah Well , I don't know where it's rooted in , but basically Tiger Woods parent is a version of Tiger parenting . But , essentially they just kind of like the wrong word is what I'm going to use , so don't take it in the literal sense . I was going to say kind of like overbearing , but more . So you want to ask , like got to make sure you got good grades ? Like you know , win , win , win , victory . You're really pushing . Pushing them , yeah , like even when they don't necessarily want to like you still might be like no , we're going to push through this shit though .
Speaker 2Yeah , I will say that I don't know . There's nothing specific I got on them like golfing or tennis , but whenever it's something I want them to do good in , I'm on them hard , and Morgan told me , my wife , that I need to chill out sometimes . But , I did it . There's a balance between showing doing that and showing love .
Speaker 4So like Logan my 10 year old .
Speaker 2I need to make , I need to balance that out a bit more . Instead of being hard on her all the time , I need to show her a bit more love from time to time so , but it's hard . I love all of them to death , but it's hard . I got hard love I show towards my kids so , but I'm getting softer , like Morgan , like I said in my wedding , morgan has made me softer .
Speaker 3Daddy , are you a girl , are you a gangsta ?
Speaker 1Was your pops like that to y'all , or is that just something you ?
Speaker 4just like my mom was like , yeah , my grandma .
Speaker 2So , yeah , my grandma didn't allow anything . But then as I got older , it's so funny how my grandma was so traditional . She like in those kind of households back in the , growing up back in the wood . If you were born in like the no , if you were born in the 20s that generation that was born in like the 20s and 30s they grew up and it was like , nigga , the man is everything .
Speaker 2So my grandma would be like , oh , you better , let you better let Ellie go through that door first , like if me and my sister was fighting over the door . You're like , uh-uh , you better let Ellie go through that door first , or she is be do something like she'd make sure I got my food first , and then she is sit down and go eat . So yeah , she would cater .
Speaker 4It's . Her life was all about catering to her husband , so she like did that to her neck .
Speaker 1Is it your mom's fault ?
Speaker 2So that went , deck passed on to your mom , but my mom is so way softer than my grandma was .
Speaker 3Well , I mean the older generations . It was hard nigga , like I know you say some of them videos little kids was really out there playing stick ball with like the crazy , the squaxing street gangs pocket knives and shit Like damn , bro , If you , when you talk to like an old black man , like , oh shit , I'd be like damn . That makes you used to be seven years old , fighting like five niggas in the neighborhood .
Speaker 2Old black man now , bro , old black man now .
Speaker 5You be , wondering why they be so like they don't be a pop part on me playing . And my job my job like one of the pharmacists . Like was having a little moment and she went off on dude or whatever and dude was like , yeah , yellow bitch . No , that didn't care bro .
Speaker 2You don't know what I've been through . You talking to me like this they don't have no filter .
Speaker 3The way that was cussing back then was crazy too .
Speaker 1My pops is like that I'm not just saying that . My pops is my mom and my pops are boomers . So like , yeah , my pop , my pops . He arguing with bill like the bill , people on the phone and shit like that Like he don't like . I don't want to say like he don't like technology , but like he don't fuck with like automated shit and he also don't fuck with , like when it's a foreigner that pick up the phone . Give me someone that speaks English .
Speaker 4I don't understand you Are you from America ?
Speaker 1Give me somebody from America . And they will put somebody on the phone eventually .
Speaker 4But like he ain't trying to talk to that shit .
Speaker 1He not going bro . But that's that , like that grit , that tough , that tough shit , you know , especially because his dad was kind of tough on you know tough on him too , and you know my mom is like the opposite , so , like you know , trying to balance that out or whatever . You know it's going to be interesting when I , you know , have kids , because sometimes I catch myself like damn nigga , that's my pops coming out .
Speaker 4And other times .
Speaker 1I'll be like damn , that's my mom's coming out right there , so it's an interesting like dynamic , or trying to like balance to balance to do , or whatever .
Speaker 3So , yeah , you're really raising a little person as a parent . Man , like they do become you weird sponges brains especially , but even like , emotionally , environmentally , like we really do pick up on just a bunch of shit that we like are around growing up . So I definitely feel you in that regard . Yeah , your daughter's gonna be some fucking thugs , elliot .
Speaker 2No , they're gonna be . They're gonna be good girls , man , they are respectable . They are so well one's a baby . Like come on , she's gonna be the coolest one . That's gonna be my nigga baby , she's just the best .
Speaker 3She's a baby . Come on , man , I want to wish daughters back , because that's fucked up .
Speaker 1They're all respectable .
Speaker 2I want to think about what a bad daughter does is . Yeah , I'm not thinking about that . Oh shit , you don't want to know .
Speaker 3Especially no , no , your perspective zone . Yeah , I'm not going .
Speaker 2That's why I'm not on social media . Yeah . I don't want to get on social media . What's they get older . I'm not going to get on there you worry about some .
Speaker 1You worry about some renters raising some little B , some B renters .
Speaker 3That's why he's not on social media .
Speaker 1I don't want to see .
Speaker 5No thought shit .
Speaker 3I can't put no thoughts , hold on .
Speaker 5So now they had a you think to the parent what was that ? What was that show , black AF or whatever , where they show , where they would talk about that , where one of the little girls was looking at like the city girls video , where her white friends and stuff , and so dude was kind of conflicted . He was like yo , I kind of want her to be like the other kids , but I like I don't agree with this stuff . Like right , like how you think you across that road , like would you be more hands off or you would just be like look it depends on how old they are .
Speaker 2Okay , that's a big part of it . If they have the age where they making their own decisions , then , yeah , I got to step away bro .
Speaker 5But bruh girls , bruh girls are hard like the stuff we going through in my niece Turn what 19 ?
Speaker 2She'll be 19 at the end of this month . You can't tell her nothing .
Speaker 5So it's just like you know I'm saying she went through a little stage a couple years ago where every time she had like a little boyfriend or something , it was some hood nigga and he and some of these wouldn't even like smart hood niggas , like I don't have a problem with hood niggas , but like , please , let the nigga have some sense . How was he a dumb hood ? If you , getting arrested for stupid shit , use the dumb ass niggas Like stealing cars and parking them in places . And you know , I'm saying and not even trying to cover up your Like bro , like if you're gonna be a criminal like these , some type of smart criminal , like some of this stuff that they was getting arrested for , getting locked up for , I'm like , bro , how you get locked up for the same thing three times ?
Speaker 3Because at least you , if you tried it again , you would at least like learn . Learn to be like oh I gotta do something different .
Speaker 5No , these niggas keep doing the same thing . And I'm just like she went through like a stage where it was like all these niggas was the same and we was just like fam , what's going on , right ? And so then , like my other sister was just like it might be because it's like her daddy not in the home . You know I'm saying her daddy lived in Texas , had had a new family that he was doing . You know he would come every month to see him . But maybe she was looking for attention because I , weirdly enough , when , uh , smitty , when he moved in with him , like all of that slowed up Because he was in there , he was in our shit like he was asking her like bro , who is this nigga ?
Speaker 4Why is ?
Speaker 5nigga . Why does nigga don't ? You know I'm saying like , so it's just like . I mean I'm not saying it's all male positive reinforcement , but it's like fam , like girls are hard Bro , like you really gotta , like you got to be in a shit , but you can't be too much in a shit , and it's like right , not gonna trust you and be willing to open up to you .
Speaker 2It's a balance .
Speaker 1Yeah , for sure , because there were times like for me you know , I Was a kid at one point it was times where , like I felt alienated , like like cuz , my mom , my mom's a warrior , and shit like that . So she'd be asking me shit , I'm like what , like why I'm not even on that type of time and like me and my friends , I mean we did crazy shit , but like nothing where that was like jeopardize our you know Safety or a liability and shit like that . You know I'm saying we was wild and out , but like we wouldn't know , I've got them criminal delinquents right .
Speaker 1You know , I'm saying so like you know , because we knew the consequences of like that , not only like fucking our future up , you know , but like , yeah , they got my family not gonna play that for real . You know , I'm saying so like it was a it's a delicate balance when it came to that . That type shit and like that still as much as like parenting should evolve in . There are ways to like communicate to your kids , and stuff like that . Like , at the core , a lot of that shit is still like the same , though .
Speaker 1You know I'm saying so you can't , you can't straight too far away From that shit . You know I , your choices , your choices have consequences , whether they're positive or negative . You know I'm saying so , but I know enough
NBA Talk and Predictions
Speaker 1life shit . I can talk NBA with y'all niggas real quick before we get about it , right ?
Speaker 2First take while I'm working , bro . Yeah , I got the best perspectives here .
Speaker 3Yeah .
Speaker 2That qualifies you to have the best perspective that makes you enlighten no first day , amongst other things you like .
Speaker 5Like , because you know like cuz some people was used to watch Bayless every day and used to tell us the same stuff . Give a like , nigga , you are .
Speaker 4Oh .
Speaker 5I'm like you do know there's other people besides skip that has that actually know what they're talking about .
Speaker 1So so , dame , they moved . You know you got your Lakers that have made some moves . You know Miami to fumble the bag . You know I'm saying so when I just want to put this out here . Last time Milwaukee made a move . This nigga , feel me , we're on the podcast . Yes yeah , nigga , I'm gonna bring this up every time with this .
Speaker 2Nigga didn't respect , you know he didn't respect .
Speaker 4Drew Drew .
Speaker 2I was like .
Speaker 1I'm like watch nigga watch I .
Speaker 5Went on record before I'm a goal record again . I made a mistake . I made a mistake . I Said is Drew holiday championship quality James , like we don't know , and I'm just like that niggas night ? And then they go in Winner Off a play that he made .
Speaker 1But now dame there which I , what y'all thinking , who ?
Speaker 2guaranteeing the championship I didn't guarantee .
Speaker 1With Drew .
Speaker 2I'm talking about drew , talking about we just a upgrade from you can only get there , but is it really Gonna ?
Speaker 1do an upgrade . Dame would be the upgrade . So .
Speaker 5I was . I went on a Facebook group page where they were talking about it and no cuz I'd be looking at . I be Because I love you be on the Facebook groups groups , brother Dog , they was talking about it and people was saying , like yo , you gave up . Oh , offense and defense for offense . I'm like bro , come on , what are you talking about ? Like this is a different type of offense , because for one with dame like you're accurately hitting 30 foot , 33 foot shots , like that type of space .
Speaker 1For yonah's to work with .
Speaker 5Yeah alone is crazy . Now , defense , yeah , that's been , that's been my issue with dame all these years , but that , but that's gonna be back though with portes and you got long , and so it's not even a factor . But you put pressure on the ball handler , you put pressure on the perimeter , you losing that with Drew , I'm sorry you are losing that we drew , but you can potentially hide Dame .
Speaker 1So that's what I was somebody Also he is kind of like Kyrie .
Speaker 5Kyrie , like you don't have to play great .
Speaker 2You just and step .
Speaker 5I know , but he's not any elite defender .
Speaker 2It's not that many elite point guard defenders , it's not that many elite defenders in the league . Anyway , that's what I'm saying .
Speaker 5But we can we agree that drew was elite pretty elite elite on the on the defensive side , and then he could also shoot the ball somewhere .
Speaker 1Yeah , so that's what I'm saying , and it also helped them that fucking Chris Middleton was their closer doing that playoff run where they won the championship .
Speaker 4Like Chris .
Speaker 1Middleton was going crazy , he was nobody . Saw that shit coming like yo . This niggas out . It's a walking bucket out there or whatever .
Speaker 4So if he comes back and is healthy .
Speaker 1You know I'm saying it's like , oh shit , you got . Like Brooke can space the floor , they ain't can space the floor Middle , straight , face the floor . So you won't have those situations where Yannis has to like put his head down and try to like run Through 30 niggas to get a , get a bucket . You could give it to Dame and be like , okay , you can run some action , have Yannis running the baseline and the dunkers spot and shit like that , like get them easier buckets , the whole game can pull that shit from half court and only thing bye-bye .
Speaker 2Only thing I would be concerned about is Dame possibly going cold because he isn't getting that volume of shots he got in Portland . That's that that's the only . And of course , team chemistry like hot niggas even gonna play together , like do niggas really like each other like that ? Like that factors into it too . It does everybody want to commit to . Well , I guess they all do want to commit to a ship because they already won .
Speaker 5It's gonna come down to the coach then .
Speaker 4It's gonna come out of the coach make sure that your stars feel comfortable .
Speaker 5Yeah , and then also that like you're committing to defense , that's another big thing . And , like you said , like team chemistry , you know it's just it's gonna be interesting .
Speaker 3So who are your favorites then ?
Speaker 1to come out the east , cuz it doesn't sound like to me right now is between Boston and Milwaukee Market . Smart is kind of like damn .
Speaker 5They issue in Boston was . Well they offense was one-dimensional Like .
Speaker 1Jalen Brown can ball handle dribbling the ball off his foot , nigger and you and anything about what ? 300 , 400 dollar .
Speaker 3Yeah , they just .
Speaker 5Was the issue . So I think , bring it in poor zingas who can like he actually passes better than what people you can run offense through him , like you know I'm saying , or you know I'm saying , or when offense starts getting stagnant .
Speaker 4You can throw it in the poor zingas and he can work it in .
Speaker 5You can work inside , outside .
Speaker 1On top of that , for zingas won't have to be like the primary rim defender if you put . Robert Williams out there , you know I'm saying or , or a Horford old man , horford , yeah . So it's like I don't care .
Speaker 5I don't care what nobody say , like I think Jason Tatum can run that point forward position if they need them to , because they basically was like well , what they gonna do about point guard ? I'm like , bro , he can do that .
Speaker 1Like I mean Brock then was hurt . He can , brogden can do that , derek white can do that Between in the East , definitely Milwaukee and Boston , and in the West it's like mother I mean , uh , denver .
Speaker 2Bro , it's gonna be tired and I don't want to say but Murray , murray might get hurt . That was a lot he was under coming back from that kind of injury .
Speaker 1I mean it took him to you say it take you . That was a what .
Speaker 2That's a nine month recovery process .
Speaker 1But he tore it up . He tore up twice , nanny , twice yeah .
Speaker 2They taking Feel that does . Just doesn't that feel like a one that feel like the man's , when the man's one Okay , dirk was what they fucked up with the mask .
Speaker 5Well , they let Chandler walk , and he went to New York , but all these niggas was like 36 . It wasn't like . It was like one nigga was 36 and the rest niggas was like 28 , 29 .
Speaker 1Jason kid .
Speaker 5Tyson Chandler Dirk . Autumn niggas was like 33 plus yeah .
Speaker 3I don't think .
Speaker 1I don't think they'll be like Dallas , though , cuz they're , they're younger than that .
Speaker 2I was just saying they in regards to winning a shipping in this opinion , because their core is still pretty much intact . Right .
Speaker 1Well , I but yeah , I mean , but I .
Speaker 5Stuff going on like what they what they doing in Phoenix .
Speaker 1I want to see what Dallas do yeah , I'm gonna say Kari can sell in the Dallas that'll be nice because they went and got defense behind Luke and they're not winning the ship . I'm no no , but they'll be . They didn't even make the playoffs last .
Speaker 5They're crazy , and then low .
Speaker 1Talent . You should have made low key .
Speaker 5I mean people talking about Golden State getting Chris Paul and everything . I still think like Sacramento gonna bake them Sacramento just .
Speaker 2Is there a trash ?
Speaker 5team in the West ? I don't know , because Memphis still there too . They don't play around either .
Speaker 1Marcus , smart as far as trash it really , it's really like Atlanta . No , they need , I mean . I don't know all but like Utah is decent to you .
Speaker 5Oklahoma City on the phone . Okay , so probably the Rockets , that probably . Okay that probably . Yeah , I can see that probably rocket .
Speaker 3That's probably the worst when they talk about these expansion teams , they always like be mentioned in conversations , but I'll be seeing no deals .
Speaker 1Seattle that's probably another three or four years .
Speaker 5Well , I think , with them raising their cat ball team . What I think with them raising their cap and like their revenue is increasing . That will . That's gonna push the expansion team type deal , but it's I think it's just a lot of logistics , man .
Speaker 3Yeah , of course , of course . Yeah , I think they doing some games in Mexico this year , aren't they ?
Speaker 5they always do games in Mexico City and you know that in a couple , a couple of them in Europe , in Africa .
Speaker 3How y'all feel about old boy when he said the NBA isn't the best , like what he said .
Speaker 5No , he said how you caught yourself word he's about no allows .
Speaker 1Semantics , bro Like come on , bro Come on the pinnacle that you aim for is to get to the fucking NBA . Yes , it's the best players in the world that go to the NBA , bro . So like , okay , you want to be technical , yes , okay , you're not technically playing the world , but that's what the fuck fee bus for , that's what the Olympics oh bro , that was he was .
Speaker 5He just was having a moment , bro , because he won . He won the world championships and , basically , no one cared into the day after . So he so he had a moment , like which I agree , because it was like if he would have won the Olympics . Then it would have been everywhere , but he went in the world championship . He was like Do that in the Olympics . He was feeling some type of way .
Speaker 1The best so I felt .
Speaker 5So I felt where he was coming from . But like , come on , bro , like you know , like , don't play with us .
Speaker 1Oh , the best Play and the NB a nigga .
Speaker 5Yeah , point point play period . It's not , it's not comparable the in the finals MVP the finals .
Speaker 1Mvp is from Serbia and it's a nigga that can't even jump . Like be be fucking for real , bro , like and he is , he playing in . Serbia . No , what was what did he ? What was that niggas ? What did what ? Did he even place in what was his fucking what he was doing in ?
Speaker 5the I think it was . It was the 100 meter .
Speaker 1Okay , so you ran track Okay .
Speaker 5Yeah , I think he's a 100 meter sprinter . I Don't know if he did to place in 200 , but I definitely know it was . Like you know , the 100 and 200 is pretty much .
Speaker 1I mean kudos to him , but like but that's what it was .
Speaker 5He just felt some type of way because it was like he had just won the world Championship and didn't nobody care to the next day and he just like family . This would have been like the NBA championships it would have been all in my family . No , bro , it's not the Olympics . Like you , bro , you , my bad bro .
Speaker 1Like you , you , you , you represent in the wrong country and nigga , you can start talking your shit next year , because Olympics is next year . That's what I'm saying . I would , I think , well no .
Speaker 5I think that's what pissed them off was people was looking at him like I Nigga , you did good , do that in the Olympics . And he was like what about now ?
Speaker 1All right , niggas , final words this nigga no has social media .
Speaker 2For what yo niggas , I'm nice like that yeah .
