Speaker 1The reason I stepped away was cuz I had nothing to talk about . Like straight up , I had nothing to talk about . When I first started the podcast I actually was dropping on me like every week , every week , and then I realized very early on that that is the subject matter that I talk about , which is Basically to have conversations . You know , the whole premise of the show was to highlight , of course , people from the crib shout out St Louis , and this is dropping on three , one , four day on top of that . So how appropriate , you know . But , um , happy three , one , four day .
Speaker 1But I started the premise of the show because , for one , you know , life is funny and I had some funny ass stories about my youth to talk about , to share those experiences and have that outlet . But then also , I know a lot of dope people . I know a lot of solid people . I know a lot of people who are doing great things , and so it was to , before it became that term , it was to make a space for people to come , and you don't necessarily have to be Politically correct . You know , a podcast allows you to say what it is that you're feeling . It allows you to have conversations that may be comfortable and conversations that are uncomfortable , and if it's , and if you step incorrectly , you get corrected . You know it's a podcast about cognitive dissonance , about Changing your perspective on things . It's about everything , man . It's always been about us being multifaceted and from a variety of different backgrounds and cultures and perspectives .
Speaker 1So , you know I I created a space for that , and so I switched to a bi-weekly format that allowed me to Live life and to have something to talk about when I drop the episode . You know I didn't want to just drop the same old thing . I don't want to necessarily talk about pop culture . You know I Don't necessarily want to talk about that all the time . I don't want to talk about politics all the time . I don't want to talk about relationships all the time . We could talk about whatever when my people Come on to the show . When guests come on to the show , I'm like whatever you want to talk about , bring that shit , because that's what this is for . You know , I'm not saying you have to curate the show , but yo , it's a conversation , it's it's it's us rapping , it's it's cousins , it's brothers and sisters , is besties , it's Lovers and friends , it's all of that . We're just shooting the shit . And so , by me going to bi-weekly , it allowed me time to live life . It allowed me time to experience things and then come back and Talk about it or tell a funny story about it or just whatever I felt like doing . It allowed me to be in that space and to do that . And so , you know , recently , as I said on the pie before I started , I went through some career turbulence . You feel me . You know I was with . I want to say yeah , hell , yeah .
Speaker 1The last two and a half three years I went through some career turbulence . I've had to change jobs , you know , both under some bullshit circumstances . But you know , the job that I had this time last year , you know was in my field , in the marketing , advertising field , and you know it was with someone , that with a company , with a firm that I'm like , yeah , this is the big dogs , this is the big leagues . And you know , a year later , things went left . Some circumstances happened that is bullshit but , yeah , a shuffle happened and I had to do what I had to do .
Speaker 1I had to take a temp gig to , you know , continue to make ends meet and do what I had to do and then from there , I got into the role that I'm in now and I was dealing with , if I'm being completely honest , when I got into the role that I'm in now in the communications space and you know a lot of things that were falling in my lap , I didn't feel like I necessarily was worthy of Because , like my nigga , you didn't lost two jobs in the last barely even two years . You know , what experience do you have ? Yeah , you got all this schooling and you got these degrees and you got these masters and all this other stuff , but how and I've always been this way but you never had real world experience . You can't apply it in a applicable way . So , like , when I finally got into this position , it was for one starting all over . It's in a space where I'm dealing with .
Speaker 1I'm privy to a lot of information that unless you kind of in this , in that space , you might not know about A lot of great things , a lot of political things , quality of life things , but I didn't feel like I belonged . I was dealing with imposter syndrome and not having a midlife crisis , but like really analyzing what I want to do in life and where I want to be in life , and so it spilled over from career to personal life to , you know , just thinking about family and you know the whole idea where I wanted to be in my life that I thought I was going to have when I was 20 , 21 , getting it or getting to that spot much later in life . And that's not to say that like I wish I would have done a lot of things differently . I don't , I don't . I don't regret a lot of things . I don't regret anything for real . The only thing I probably wish I would have done was left St Louis for a little minute to go to school , because I had the opportunity to do that .
Speaker 1But I've always been family oriented , like family , you know , if we're , if you and I say family , I'm even including friends like my friends that are near and dear to me . I call them family . You know , I didn't want to necessarily leave my family and , you know , tying it back to what I was , what I was referring to , like I was just thinking about all of that . I was thinking about kids . I was thinking about , you know , as you get older , your folks are getting older . So dealing with that , relationships and friendships changing and the dynamic changing , you know , some people accident stage left that you know I didn't think would be having to exit , and then people who I never thought would be coming in or coming in , and so , you know , dealing , dealing with that , it was just , it was just a lot .
Speaker 1I was just kind of finding myself and you know my current job is allowing me to be like nigga . You are a person with a variety and multitude of different relationships . You are a connector , you are a people person . That is your thing . Pour into those resources and see who you can put on , who you can help out , who could be in this space . I don't want to just take up space for me . I want to bring other people to the table and opportunities and have access and equity to the resources that you know they may not have had otherwise . And so developing my new sense of identity , because it's completely different , and I think it's like this for everybody . But it's completely different than the identity I had in 2020, . You know , I went through a lot of shit in 2019 . In 2020 , just kind of was like boom .
Speaker 1And like four years later , I think a lot of us are looking up like what the fuck ? Like finally kind of waking up from the haymakers that 2020 thrown through our way and smack this aside the head with , and shit like that , but being confident in what my identity as a man , a black man , a brother , a cousin , a son , a partner , all that shit like what does that actually mean to me ? Because , again , shit wasn't going in the manner that I would have liked it to , but I was still ending up in the same , you know same positions that I wanted to be in . So you know the saying that like remember that you pray for the moment that you're in right now had to come to that realization . Like I prayed to be in the space that I'm in now . And so you know I don't do shit for accolades , I don't do shit to be acknowledged . Always say I just want to do some cool shit , I just want to be a captain of some cool kids , that's , that's what I'm here to do , and so I had to go through that .
Speaker 1I finally got a break at the end of the year . You know , I was out of , we didn't work the last week and a half of the end of 2023 , and that allowed me to recharge and put things in perspective because I was , you know , I was kind of running on films and so I had been through a lot and I know we can all you all kind of feel like that , like Nick , I need a break and so luckily , you know , I had a week and a half to kind of like just chill , fuck out and recharge and shake I won't say shake , but leave 2023 in 2023 . And so I just didn't . I didn't have anything to talk about . I Really didn't have anything to talk about and before I knew it , january past , shit , my birthday , birthday past .
Speaker 1I turned 20 , 25 . I wish I turned 35 , you feel me . And so that past and that was great , I kept that simple . I didn't go anywhere else , was snowed here in St Louis , so but yeah , and I just went to , went to a club around my folks , you feel me , and it was like whoever want to come out , pull up , you know , if you don't want to , that's cool . You know I'm feeling y'all love and I'm really appreciating it . And yeah , I didn't do anything crazy . I just , in the words of what's my boys name for paying full , I'm trying to be around some love tonight .
Speaker 1And I was around that and before I knew it , january , january was gone All 31 days and y'all gonna stop fucking on rushing January , because y'all do that shit every year . And and then y'all look up in fucking November , december , like where the year go , because you were fucking rushing To get through some shit instead of just enjoying the shit . Bro , I mean , we had nobody likes winter , nobody likes to cold and all that shit . But look , you're rushing , rushing , rushing through shit , not taking time to enjoy the shit and , before you knew it , a whole year going out , going by and like you , like alright , well , I mean I kind of did this , I kind of did that , you just fucking . Anyway , yeah , stop rushing . My goddamn birthday , mom , that's all
Podcast Relaunch and Personal Updates
Speaker 1the fuck I'm saying .
Speaker 1So February comes and then February passes and then March starts and I'm like damn . And then I ain't fucking recorded shit , I Ain't recorded a damn thing . And so I Got the , got the , the itch not out of , like I need to put out content , and then , like that , it was just like it's time , bro , it is time , and so it's Super important that I get this episode out and it's super important that I'm dropping this bitch on 314 day cuz like yeah , it's big STL around these ways , and so I'm I'm happy to . You know , be back , open up the space to my folks , dope people . I know Some old guests coming back through the podcast , get .
Speaker 1I'm gonna step out on a limb and try to get some new guests on the podcast to shoot the shit . Try and be more consistent with the show . You know , be back on , be back back on my bi weekly shit . You know , be , try to be proactive and just playing ahead too . And , yeah , man , just really see what we can do with the , with this , with this podcast , with the space . So for everybody that could just continue to listen to the shows , because I would get the , the Host platform that I'm on sends updates every week of you know how many listens or how many downloads you got , and I never went A week without some sort of somebody listening to the podcast . So I just want to say For everybody that continue to take in the content . Even you know , go back and listen to the podcast , the old shows . I Thank you . I thank you for that . I'm glad to know that I put out something that you can continue to listen to , even while I was gone . And yeah , we don't keep pushing , you don't keep pushing forward with this shit . But your , your boy , your cold , your cousin , your brother , j White , we back , we back to it . So I Don't have a guest On this particular episode , it was just me .
Speaker 1I felt like , you know , this is a relaunch . Is it considered a relaunch ? Huh , that's a good fucking question . But , um , I'm solo Dolo on this episode and so typically , when I'm solo Dolo , you know , I Like to do a maze , a maze or fine , because I don't get all . I don't get the chance to like be on the other end sometimes of like the person being asked the question .
Speaker 1So this opens up the floor and the format for me to like answer questions that y'all send me or what not , and y'all be sending me some shit this time around . Y'all kind of Y'all send some . Y'all send some decent shit . I'm not even gonna hold you . Y'all send some Some some cool ass shit .
Speaker 1But as far as other updates in my life , um , dating life is good . You feel me Shout out to Queen frolic Um , it's , it's good man , you know it's going really really good . I'm enjoying . I'm enjoying it for sure , as my , my homie , randy , say . Yes , the lover girl era is definitely Year the lover type vibes . You feel me ? Um , and shit , I'm also not getting no younger and , like Nigga , guys started popping out kids at some point . But you know , I waited this long and I made it this long without , you know , having any . You feel me , and so that's for a reason , you know . But now , you know , we at the point like , okay , fucking crib midget might be all right , two crib midgets , how about three crib midgets ? That's about it . It's the most you're gonna get . But yeah , that's that , that's life is going really really well . So those are the main updates with me , man .
Podcast Host Reflects on Memorable Moments
Speaker 1Um , we're gonna get into these mother questions . So the first question Is one is what is one of your best moments from Henny nights ? Uh , well , I'll always say one of the best moments is having Tammy Holland on the podcast , because I grew up listening to her on the radio in the morning on the way to school , like I vividly remember being in the car with my mom , mama white , taking me to school . Um , oh , what's she on in the afternoon ? Either way being picked up or , uh , taken to school . You know , remember hearing her on the radio and so having her on before like the pandemic really fucked up shit . Um , it's a memorable moment , um , in the first episode . If you go back and listen to the first episode , you can hear how fucking nervous I was in the first episode is about is me telling the story of how I lost my virginity . You can go back and listen to the first episode and hear how fucking nervous I was . But as I was continuing to tell the story , I got more and more comfortable with it and so you can hear like the progression and now those like I want to say like those first four to five episodes of like the nerves kind of like Falling back , um , but I would say definitely the Tammy Holland episode . Um , my very first episode . And then , uh , people have always the episode where I talked about having uh , an edible that had me super high , like Mugs reference that episode . Uh , pretty often so , but it's a hundred plus episodes , you know . So I've had great conversations with people and and we'll continue to to do so , but yeah , I would say at least those three for sure .
Speaker 1What moment has significantly impacted your views on relationships on hunting ? Uh , I don't think there was a cultural moment that like impacted my view on it . Um , um , for me it was like discovering . For me were like over my eyes to like , oh , mugs be fucking was definitely like real sex on HBO , like that , um , that episode I mean not episode , but that show , um , because before then I had never really saw my muggers like , like , getting it cracking , like that . It was always like you know the soft skin of max bullshit , like you never see motherfuckers like Get , get dealt with , get cracked , like that in the soft , soft core shit . But like the real sex shit was like , oh , like these white people be fucking and you get some black couples in there .
Speaker 2Oh nigga . It's motherfuckers that look like us they be fucking .
Speaker 1And so like , yeah , staying up to one , two in the morning just to , you know , get a peek , that that was like the , my first like real moment of being like oh , shit , okay . And then you know we was on the , the , the bubble of the internet , with like lime wire and kaza and and what's what the fuck was the other shit . So , like it got to a point where you're like you can download whole Clips , like whole movies , whole flicks . Um it just like discovering websites and Stuff with storylines . So like , yeah , it wasn't really a pop culture , I guess , moment that like impacted my views on it . So , yeah , um , next question what do you think ? Uh , okay , what do you think is the biggest misconception about dating in the digital age ? That these conversations motherfuckers be having on social media , them conversations about who brings what to the table and the alpha , alpha male , and , uh , let me lead all that other shit like that shit's not real , bro . That's not shit that Really matters in the long run , like the , the , the cars , the gifts and all that shit like the highlight real shit . Like none of that shit . Like it's just that it's a highlight real . It's to Show off , is to spark conversation . It's not really of anything of a fucking substance , it's just Blind . Just comparing yourself to these motherfuckers that you know we're doing all different types of shit to each other . Like None of it's , it's , it's all , it's all , it's all through gazes , all the WWE it's all , it's not . None of it is fucking real . And so people thinking that , especially young people , it's more so . No , I shouldn't say that , cuz there's some old , dumb ass motherfuckers . But you know social media and how it affects young people for sure . Like they believe that that's how Life and relationships is supposed to go , like strictly transactional , and that's not . That's not how any of that is .
Speaker 1So , yeah , what current event has surprised you the most in terms of its impact on society or culture ? Shit , I guess I would say just Just the fucking world and society we are living in . Now , bro , we have to choose between to To Putting face that no to tapioca , face ass candidates were running this country . Who Is a ? It's ? Again , it's . Wwe is a shit show . It's like none of this is None of this is real .
Speaker 1Like Adulting as a kid , you couldn't have told me as a young , a youth , that when I got of age to actually contribute to society and and have a say and All of the things that they just , you know , they told us we were gonna do and we were gonna be one week kids . You couldn't have told me like this , this will , it'll lead to this . It's just so fucking weird , bro . Every single day it is something Insane . Fucking presidential candidate is being yeah , now I put him on the ballot , but that nigga is like fuck that I'm gonna be on the ballot anyway , like our Active president is just , the light is on but nobody's fucking home . The Continuing , the continuing devaluing of Minorities , daffa , male bullshit . It's like it's so , so much fucking people , celebrities or you know who are put on this pedestal being absolute monsters . Like it's , you can put your hand , put your hand in the fucking bucket and just pick , just pick and pull it out and You'll be like nigga . There's no way give the bucket to ten-year-old me To put my hand in and pull out a piece of paper with something random on it . That's happening in 2024 and I'll probably look at you crazy . So , yeah , it's , it's insane , it's fucking insane .
Speaker 1Um , what's the most challenging aspect of hosting a podcast ? Um , for me , it's the social media part . I love the conversation . I love recording . I love that whole aspect of it . But actually putting your product out there , putting your content out there for it to be consumed , and having to do fucking algebra to figure out how to get your shit seen without posting it Like finding the right chemistry and formula to like hashtags or what time to post , or yeah , people organically seeing your shit . Or like you have this set amount of followers but only this many people liking your shit , so it's weird . That's the part I don't like , because I want people to see my shit in real time , which is why I primarily like really post in my stories , because you can see that in real time . Like I'm up there , all you gotta do is click on it Now , whether you skip through it or not , that's cool , but yeah , that's probably the most difficult part . And then maybe , like if I'm having somebody on schedules online , because we're all adults and we all got shit to do , so , yeah , that would say that part .
Underrated Films, Celebrities, and Communication
Speaker 1What's one piece of advice you give someone looking to start their own pockets ? Just do that shit . Just fucking do it and let the chips fall with MA , because , fuck it , you swing and you knock that bitch out the park . You swing and you miss , you go back to the drawing board . So what ? Just start it and have me on as a guest .
Speaker 1What underrated movie , album or book do you think deserves more recognition , and why ? I mean what I may consider underrated may not be underrated to someone else , but shout out to . When I was my time at Flow Valley but I took a film class at Flow Valley and we watched films that I typically would not have watched like on my own , and one of them that has continued to always stick out with me and it's like one of my favorite movies is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mine with Jim Carrey . And what's her name ? The girl from Titanic , kate Winslet , is that her name ? Yes , kate Winslet .
Speaker 1And just the whole idea of dealing with a breakup and trying to have the memories of race . But you keep reliving the situations over and over and it's a really , really dope movie . So if you haven't seen it , check it out . It's kind of trippy with some of the visuals , but , yeah , memories you have with somebody and then you know , even potentially trying again , giving your relationship or giving the relationship another shot . So I would say that , as far as I don't really have a book album ? I don't know , I don't really have an album either . I mean , I mean always I said this before , but here I stand by us here is like seriously underrated to me . But I also realized that there's an attachment to that album because I was going through some shit at that time . So , yeah , I wouldn't say , check that , check that movie out . Endless spotlight , endless sunshine of the Spotless Mine . Check that shit out .
Speaker 1What's the most important lesson about communication and relationship that you learn from a podcast episode of Guess Wow , I was that . I guess I would say that is different for everybody . My communication style is that let's talk about it . We may not agree . It's okay to sometimes not agree on some shit . As long as it's not no fundamental thing for you and your compass where , like you , would be seriously compromising yourself . Long as it's not something like that , it's cool to like not agree . But yeah , it's not as hard as people make it seem . It's just a matter of it being uncomfortable , and uncomfortable is fine . So what is a phenomenon that you look back on differently ? Wait , did I read this right ? Oh , discuss a phenomenon that you think will be looked back on differently by by other generations . So what , like Jen , what is it , jen ? Alpha , and beyond that , I think the concept of buying fucking CDs is going to be one a like what ?
Speaker 1Like you didn't just have , like you don't understand . There was a time where there wasn't , you know , your phone or your iPod or whatever little player . You had just contained all the music you ever wanted to hear . The iPod was a big ass CD book that would sit under the seat of your car and you would open it up and flip through the endless amount of pages that you had of CDs to figure out what you were in the mood for . And then you would put it into what is called a CD player and you would actually let the CD play . You may skip to a specific song , but for the most part you let the shit play . There wasn't any nitpicking songs from you know an album and making you all playlists like it is now and I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that , because I definitely do that now , but yeah , back then , and don't even don't let you , you know , be wealthy , how little money you're pocketing you had like a six disc CD changer in this motherfucker like nigga , endless tunes . You just want to ride around the city forever , nigga , you go home for what we vibing . So , yeah , man , that's , that's , that's a recipe that's lost forever . But hell , even making a mix , making a mixed CD of songs you downloaded from music blogs , the hip hop , dx exclusive exclusive zone , and I'm forgetting , you heard that new , you know that PIF , wherever you got music from individual songs and they weren't even necessarily the finished versions of these songs , they're like the raw versions or unfinished versions or unreleased tracks . Like , yeah , you don't get that , you don't get that feeling . Now . So , yeah , that I definitely say the CDs and like making mixed CD for sure , like that's something that , yeah , that was a time you just had to be there , you just had to fucking be there . Um , let's see , I'm going to do , I'm going to do two more .
Speaker 1What road do you think celebrities should play in political and social discourse ? None , none , cuz them , motherfuckers , are so far removed and delusional from the everyday woman and man Other than the cosine . What , what discourse could you actually have Not saying that's like that for everybody ? You know , some people you know are well-versed , and a little bit of politics , a little bit of this and a little bit of that for , but for the most part , no , it's all a soft for images , all the cosine . We good , we don't need that . We need real fucking change . We need the old ass motherfuckers up there To be to exit stage left . Take a bow . You did , you did what you came to do run this bitch into the ground . We need you to exit . We need you out of here , need to be gone . We need fresh blood , we need fresh thoughts . Neurodiversity that's the shit we need . We don't need an inequality way of thinking , a prejudice way of thinking , a Bigoted way of thinking like no we , but you know who , who and me , who am I ? You know that's just my thought , but I don't . I'm cool Like we . We passed that like the cosine . And yeah , bro , I'm cool girl , I don't , I don't need it , but you may be different .
Speaker 1So have you ever had a change of heart about a topic after recording episode about it ? No , the one episode that I struggled to record and went back and forth about it was when I had God when I talked to , when I talked about Chantel on the podcast and I had Shaw shout out the shot from grief is ghetto on the podcast , being comfortable speaking about that and reliving that . I asked Chantel's mom for permission before I did that , because I just felt that was the right thing to do , but that may be the only time where I recorded episode or wanted to record it episode . I had doubts about recording episode . So , yeah , that's really . That's really it so , but that's it .
Speaker 1Man , I'm back . I Appreciate you for listening to the podcast and , as always , wherever you're listening to this song , whatever platform this is on , subscribe , subscribe to the podcast , blow the podcast up , share the podcast , rate the podcast , show the show , love to the podcast . I Seriously appreciate y'all and , yeah , shout out to 2024 . Man , it's gonna be a good one . So until next time , I'll let y'all later . Peace .
Speaker 2Blue slides . I've been sliding through your whole shit . Yeah , presidential rollies , I took big risk . We split the profit with the people . We be all lit . Top 10 , 19 , bitch we all in .
Speaker 2Yeah , uh-huh , yeah . Better climb out of that hole before you fuck up your blessings , for you realize that it's over with and start to get desperate . Keep your mind , body on pressure . Give your time when it's needed . No , I'm ain't gonna be a man if he don't work . He ain't need how you made it up by the fingers like
Struggling to Overcome Personal Demons
Speaker 2he must .
Speaker 2A new magic lost a homeboy to the drugs man . I ain't trying to go backwards when I realized that his heard and think was it worth it ? Man , I gotta shake this shit , wake up , move with a purpose . Been in prison in my own house I don't know if they notice I don't broke down so many times . Next time I'm gonna catch me . I don't help . That was so many people . They took me for granted . I lost out so much shit trying to live to your standards . I don't made problems my problems . Now I barely can breathe . The little boy father about none . So I roll up my sleeve . I was always good at everything , especially my dreams , but lately I really been myself and , strong as I seem , I've been hustling day in , day Out belong to the streets , but sometimes you got to be a deadbeat when the kids got to eat .
