Meet Shevaun Williams, the self-professed photographer Diva, ruling Oklahoma from her studio throne on Norman's Main Street. Our listeners are in for a real treat and a crazy surprise that happened at the end of the interview. We are not spoiling the moment here.
This craftswoman spends over 80% of her time shooting the commercial genre and the balance creating fashion stories. Shevaun deeply believes in promoting the value of photography by charging separately for the capture creation and licensing.
She mentions an important element of fashion photography, often overlooked, that forces the shooter to define, refine, and develop the story of the product. You must create the narrative of the clothes and/or brand. That product rarely is the pretty girl in the cloths.
Fashion is 12 o'clock high noon... aim for 11:59 or 12:01 and you will miss it. Your job is to get it right on set.
Shevaun's favorite advice for upcoming fashion photographers is simple but poignant. "Get a steamer" and study the fashion world. She mentions several to follow, nationally acclaimed and local talent. Get your notepad ready!
