Wrapping up our FASHION themed month with a long-distance interview record with Australian photographer Marty Strecker.
This traditionally trained oil painter of landscapes talks about how the transition to using the camera more for creation versus canvas reference helped him become more outgoing after discovering people. Marty enjoys learning about the person and works hard to bring forth traits into the image created. He eloquently observes the tribe creation power needed for fashion shoots where the creation is a focused goal that many times yields an unexpected result if allowed to experiment.
Interestingly, his training as a painter helped Marty visualize light first before moving to the still camera giving him an edge during the learning process. We all know the importance of knowing light but seeing light... that's an area to aspire towards.
Marty's personal passion - Project Behind The Line - showcases the juxtaposition of the lives, passion, and individuality of those who work on the front-line of health care and first responders. Beginning mid-2019, this project is on point with the current world's pandemic and we are all in awe and grateful for these heroes' sacrifices.
