10. Setting Expectations and Building Teams with Derek Whisenhunt

On this week’s episode, I sit down with Derek Whisenhunt to talk about his experience leading teams with his over 20 years of diverse leadership experience in both corporate and government. We had a great conversation about setting expectations, how to approach meetings as a leader and overall what it takes to be a leader. 

Derek started leading at a young age while attending military academy and continues to lead teams today in IT. He considers his leadership style more of a “players coach” since he teaches but is also willing to demonstrate as necessary. Derek’s focus is on team emotional health and empowerment with his transparency and understanding of the power of trust and relationships to accomplish the mission. He continues to dedicate time to learn about leadership through continued formal training, podcasts, and reading.
