Welcome to the Mountaineer Podcast. I'm Tyler Hickman. One vote. That's the deciding factor in what has been a contentious race to be Netherlands next mayor. Late in the evening on Tuesday, April 7th, after the polls closed, the town posted the unofficial results on a piece of paper outside of Town Hall. Sitting mayor Billy Giblin received 258 votes, and Mayor Pro Tem Nicole Sterling received 257. State law mandates a recount in municipal elections if the margin is less than or equal to a half percent of the highest vote total. In this case, that single vote amounts to 0.38%, which should trigger the need to retally the votes. As of recording this podcast, the town has yet to announce if it will conduct a recount. It plans to provide updates to the official results later this week. So be on the lookout for more information at the MTNEAR.com. It's not just elections in the headlines today. We've got more news coming your way from the week. It's a reminder that the Mountaineer is the best source of local news in the peak to peak, whether it's election coverage, local music recommendations, or the inside scoop on what's happening in your community. So let's hear some of the news. These are this week's top headlines. After 30 years under the guidance of founder Jill Dreaves, Netherlands Wild Bear Nature Center named a new director last week. Trish Krasniak is taking the reins from the time-tested peak-to-peak institution as it steps into a new era. After the Lakeview Fire destroyed the nonprofit's home base inside the Caribou Village Shopping Center last fall, Krasniak quickly stepped into a role on the Nature Center's board. The lawyer and former executive of education-based startup Hopskip Drive says her skill set was a good match for the task at hand. She told the mountaineer that insurance claims, rebuilding operations, and regulatory needs are, quote, in my wheelhouse. So I was thrilled to volunteer. Now, Krasnyak steps in as director of the program with a bright future. The center's brand new 8,500 square foot net zero facility is set to officially open later this year. Nothing beats headbanging with a beer in your hand after a long day on the slopes. But as any skier knows, these winter days are fleeting. And this past Sunday, April 5th, marked the last day of shredding at Eldora. The Mount announced last week the season would be coming to an early end after a winter plagued by warm temps and little snowfall. That didn't stop spring riders from soaking up the vibes. Lafayette-based metal band Connex, who you heard earlier, squeezed the last bit of energy out of the crowd to fan favorite Led Zeppelin covers. Time to start the countdown until next year's first chair.
SPEAKER_00The big mystique of Rolfing is that it hurts and that people are nervous about it. The practice has changed a lot in the last 30 years. It was a lot more forceful, and now we're learning that it doesn't have to be painful. We can have the same uh responses with the fascia. That's ultimately what we're working with. Is that's the the material between the muscles? It's not just a basic massage. We're looking at structure.
SPEAKER_01Uh what in the world is Rolfin? It's not another wacky alteration to the beloved sport of golf. But it may bring a similar sort of catharsis to its participants, the same way hitting a tiny ball toward a tiny hole 300 yards away does for some folks. It's a deep tissue massage, specifically the fascia that connects your muscles to your bones. And you can read all about it in this year's edition of Body Mind Spirit, the Mountaineer's annual health and wellness magazine, now on news racks across the Peak to Peak. Don't worry, it's not all about somewhat obscure massage techniques. There's a guide to community resources for any type of help you could need, a near exhaustive list of Colorado's best hot springs, an explainer on the benefits of hydrotherapy, and so much more. If you do one thing for self-care today, make sure it includes picking up a copy of Body Mind Spirit. And those were this week's top headlines. That's all for today. Thanks again to Netherland reporter Chris Kelly for staying on top of the election day chaos. If we've learned anything, it's that your vote matters. Literally, you could have been the deciding factor. That's the beauty of participating in the democratic process. As always, if you like today's episode, share it around, especially with your neighbors who didn't hit the polls. It's the best way you can help the show grow. This is the Mountaineer Podcast. I'm Tyler Hickman, and thanks for listening to today's quick episode. We'll be back next week with more news. See you then.
