A: Hi, I’m Andrew

S: and I’m Steph.

A: We cannot venture further along our Norfolk Festive adventure without a chat about Christmas Trees.

In the UK, approximately eight million live Christmas trees are sold annually, with the Nordmann fir being the most popular choice. The tradition was popularized by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in the 1840s, inspired by his German heritage, though Queen Charlotte first introduced one in 1800. A Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square is an annual gift from Norway, given as thanks for UK support during WWII.

Norfolk Christmas Trees are a brand that cultivates local, home-grown Nordmann Fir and Norway Spruce trees on the Great Melton Estate. Their Nordmann Firs are a popular choice in the UK due to their soft, non-drop needles, symmetrical shape, and ability to hold heavy decorations. The business has been farming Christmas trees in the area for over 30 years and marks trees for cutting starting in September, with fresh retail trees harvested later in the season to ensure quality.

S: We love to see the Christmas Tree at The Forum in Norwich.
The Forum Team believes it’s the largest public tree in the city. It is always beautifully decorated and great for a festive selfie.

A: FACT TIME!
The tallest Christmas tree ever in Norwich and actually the UK was in 2010. The 70ft tall sitka spruce was picked from Kielder Forest in Northumberland, managed by the Elveden Estate in Norfolk. It was lit with 12,000 lights.
