Welcome to Episode 10 with two spiritual mamas I am Shelby. And I'm Alisha. And today's episode is dedicated to questions from our listeners. After 300 downloads, we are excited to tap into some curiosities of yours and give you some feedback. So our first question is about how we do the normal stuff like paying bills, working, thinking about money, going to doctor's appointments, even grocery shopping, and still feel connected to a greater energy or greater meaning. Alicia, what say you?
Well, the number one thing in presence and mindfulness in doing any of the day to day mundane things is to have gratitude.
Yes. I'm so thankful to be paying this $200 electric bill. Because that means I have electricity. It helps. So it helps it's necessary. And yeah, so grateful to the water. My water bill is the one that's the most expensive.
I don't have one. And oh, that's nice. But, you know, our relationship with money is a big one that brings up our questions about us as spiritual beings because money is, is such a, I mean, firstly, it's so earthly, so required, it's got so many connections to control and, and security Zoomer as, I mean, just like it could go on and on, right? But that is, the thing about money is if we look at it from a spiritual perspective, it's abundance, it's flow, it's the ability to be that conduit of abundance.
So I love the concept, that source is my source, it's my source of money, it's not my job, that's my source of money. It's not my house, that's my source of security. The Divine is my source for all of these things. So money bills work, I tap into that divine source, just divine abundance of, of possibility and energy and what more let me say so much more.
Well, you know, it's a drag sometimes to go to work, even when we have jobs that we absolutely love, you know, there's days you're tired, and you just, you do want to stay home and and do the things that you would want to choose to do. But again, going back to gratitude. Sometimes I walk into to coaching and I'm like, Wow, you guys all showed up again, like this is fascinating. It's, it's spectacular. I appreciate you all so much for all the efforts it took for everyone to get there from all the parents and just the inspiration of the kids. So that to me is is all divine orchestration. You know, even I obviously everybody knows I have a coaching philosophy that is very spiritual, but even when a new kid shows up for me, it's it's a divine moment. I really do see it that way that there's a magnetic attraction in the universe somehow and that kid came to me for a reason. And so even the doctors we choose and everything The grocery stores the facts that we have the certain foods in the in the grocery stores that are in our town, I just, I think some of this honor at all normal stuff.
What this listener question was about can be those harder moments that like you said the lower energy don't necessarily want to be at work? Or how can you bring in fun, playfulness, add music, or a podcast, if you can. But also a question, I'd like you all to remember that you can ask yourself at any point, wherever you are, if something's feeling mundane, or if you're feeling low energy, you can just ask yourself, because your brain is a supercomputer that will answer this question beautifully. How can I have more joy in this moment? And it's like, okay, well, I could take a break, like, whatever you need, you just your body will answer your questions.
And how can I? How can I experience more love in you know, throughout this day, it could be showing your appreciation, gratitude to your coworkers or you know, calling a friend or you know, using your downtime, your your time to connect within, interweaving that throughout your day. I want to say about doctor's appointments, though.
Sometimes you end up with a really frustrating, like, not personable person or malfunction, like I was going to this clinic that kept canceling my appointments, auto canceling my appointments, because I didn't answer the call. Because I was working or doing something else that was confirming my appointment. Like, I didn't get back to them quick enough. And so they automatically cancelled it.
And I had to reschedule. And I got frustrated. And I have to say it challenged my ability to stay centered, and speak with loving kindness and communication. But really all of these day to day moments are a chance to apply those tools that we're talking about and, and giving us that challenge to rise up to tap into that higher vibrational frequency and connect it to a greater meaning.
Yes, and embody that that person on the other line is also going through their own struggles that day, and they're just another beautiful human being of light on this planet. And I know in the past, before I was inside of this headspace of connecting to the greater collective, I am going to just admit, I may have taken it out on a, you know, the electric bill person or whoever it was, and I would be grumpy, because I'm never going to see this person again, I can let out my frustration on them.
And that happens. And I know that a lot of people who have those jobs can tell some stories that, you know, just flat out rudeness. I know, we have the Vermont country store here. And people have tried to work there on the phone lines. And they say we just can't because people are so rude on the phone.
So again, like you said, every opportunity every chance, you know, if I had to call Vermont tax, accounting, whatever yesterday because somehow my tax ID number got changed. I'm not even sure what I'm talking about really, but I'm so complicated. I'm get Yeah, I'm getting these threatening letters. Like if you don't fix this, I'm like, I never changed it. So what is there to fix and I just had this lovely conversation with a guy and he was so helpful and so pleasant and, and it could have been so challenging and frustrating. But it was joyful.
And I think it's fun to then say I left that guy's day a little bit brighter, you know, and that's the benefit to of showing up and being fully your bright light and embodying these things that we talk about being spiritual in your day to day life, you get the benefit of feeling that beautiful satisfaction of having a wonderful conversation or leaving someone feeling better than when you started a conversation with them. And this is how Spirit works. This is these are those little moments that you can see God in in play.
Yeah, absolutely. And it again, like we've talked about in previous episodes, you go to bed that night, saying I might have made that person say a little bit shinier. You know, even though I was calling frustrated and confused. We worked through it and that's collaboration so totally.
Yay. Wonderful. I hope that answer surger question about that, and at least gave you a little more guidance, feel free to check back in with us and see if that was helpful. Our next question comes from one of our listeners that asked us personally, at what point did you know you were on a journey to becoming a shaman? Shall be you want to talk about, at least what shaman means to start with, and then your personal journey?
Well, it's actually interesting because that word always was very daunting to me. It's of a different continent, it's of a different culture.
And I always felt like it was something that wasn't attainable for, you know, this Massachusetts born girl. And it wasn't until one of my lifelong friends he said, shall we? What is trauma and really mean? It means teacher, and you have been a teacher, your whole life, you know, that's definitely something I will not contest. I've been I love to teach, I love to teach, I love to learn and regurgitate that up in a more creative way. And, and so it was interesting how words can really hold you back. And then when he said that, to me, I was like, Huh, that's so awesome.
Like, I am going to be a shaman in my way, you know, and I'm still I say that I'm studying shamanism, because I think it's a spectacular overview. You know, we, I was brought up religious, and I've stepped back and said, I'd like to be a little bit more spiritual. And shamanism is, to me this umbrella, over a lot of religions. And it, it encompasses so much more of a wider growth, including the earth. You hear that? Right. So that was almost when I gave myself permission to be a healer and to be a shaman or a teacher. But it was kind of neat, because for me, I had always studied West African dance, I, my dad was a drummer, so I love rhythm.
And then when I found West African dance, actually, in Montana, which is a hilarious place to find West African Studies. I was so enamored with the collaboration between the drummer and the dancer, and that it was a silent killer want that silent, and it was unspoken communication. And then I started to study tribal belly dance, which, although created in California, and the United States, it's a collaborative dance style that you go off of cues and transitions. And so again, it's an unspoken communication. So all of that is kind of leading me into this wonderful place of collaboration. And then a person with the divine, with the Divine and with the intuitive and with the with the quick, you know, quick thinking.
And so yeah, so yeah. And then finally, I think I said to earlier, I wasn't always secure and teaching to adults, because I didn't feel like I had my crap together as an adult human yet. And so I stuck with the kids, and the cartwheels and in the dancing. But yeah, after the last seven years of doing ceremony and medicine, I've definitely grown and have a lot more confidence. And here I am talking, I'm talking my talk on the podcast, and walking your talk. That's a big part of being a shaman or any spiritual leader of any kind, and even a healer. I actually Yeah, always I feel like I always knew I was a healer. I came from a family that really nurtured that and I knew it at a young age. So I say I learned to meditate around 16.
My mom taught me and I really tapped into this deep well of knowing who I really am at the core. I knew I was a healer. So leaving high school I was like, Well, I don't want to go directly into college because that's not the place to learn how to be a spiritual healer or an energetic healer. And so I was looking at massage schools and I found best your university with this undergrad in herbal science, which is how I met you and had my whole life changed because that's where I really had the awakening into my spiritual gifts. And from a young age, I was calling to the universe send me my teacher, I'm ready to be taught right and it's that idea of like, who's my A shaman that I can turn to to teach me the ways of spirit.
And I was just wondering where I would find that person. And I was gonna go through school and learn this herbal medicine and maybe become a naturopath. That was my idea. Well, while I was in school, I was dancing with you shall be. And we were in this beautiful collective of women and feeling this real supportive, feminine, womb like energy of just blossoming, this beautiful energy that I was tapping into, for the first time in this way.
And I had this spiritual awakening, which was my realization that I was not supposed to be a doctor and go down that path. And you introduced me to Judy Yama, Mora, who I say was my first spiritual teacher, she that very first time I walked into her office, because she does sort of a counseling style teaching and helps people with their own internal journey. And that's exactly what I needed help with. I walked into her office sat down in that chair, and I have this very clear memory.
One of the first things she said to me was, Do you realize you just walked in here with a whole line of grandmothers behind you? And so that and yeah, go love grandmothers. That was my first introduction to ancestry medicine, grandmother medicine, working with the divine in these ways and learning and then developing my own gifts. And it just blossomed and continued to grow. Because this was like, definitely my calling.
And I was so grateful to have this teaching and guidance. And it just, I felt like I was her apprentice for like, five years that I worked with her weekly. I mean, I had sessions with her all the time. And then my life brought me to the school of shamanic studies in Portland or outside of Portland. And I had a new a new teacher and I I did some training like what you're doing and we did ceremonies and journeys and learned a lot about how to journey to the lower world, the upper world and really listen to spirit guides and, and follow animal spirit medicine and all sorts of things directly in those little less so you you knew from a really young age, like spirituality, I mean, you were raised a little bit inside of that realm as well.
Yeah, I was really lucky. I always say I felt like I got a leg up in this lifetime. And like our children are with more conscious philosophy and spirituality instead of constricting religion on like your Catholic upbringing. Yeah.
Yeah, we paths life was never a phrase, in my upbringing. And I know my daughter has. We talked about how she was my mother in past lives. And she you know, she's 14, and she has a lot to say about it. She reminds me of those certain moments ago, my mom and I, my mom and I've done this lifetime thing a lot. Yes, well, I think that's a cool question. Because I think a lot of us are healers. A lot of us are way Wayshowers I believe that was your phrase from our last episode. And we need this we need this awakening and brightening of all of our individual lights.
So if you are out there listening and you have this feeling go with that, like yes, yes, it's a big yes, we're giving you yeses.
Yeah. And just call out to the universe to be guided to that next teacher that will be exactly who you resonate with, for what you need to learn right now. In Portland, I have my own I call her my shaman teacher, this newer woman that I've been working with the last year, I look way and she does this beautiful light language song which then I connected with another woman who uses light language and her healing practice and we're going to do a little trade and and share and she does a little course on it and all these little things as they come in, you just follow spirit. I mean, when I went to become a soul coach and do that training, I was guided to go to life purpose Institute first because Spirit guided me there. It was literally a Facebook ad for the school.
But it was divinely timed because I was looking for the next step. And so just follow, follow your inner guidance, ask the questions and be clear about them. And I wanted to add the first time I met Judy, you know, I adventure counselors. I was never afraid of going to counselors and but it was so funny because I was used to going to a counselor and you just talk and talk and talk and they give you a little bit of feedback and then Okay, times up. And I mean, I remember one time I was in counseling, and I was like, full out crying like in the middle of this.
What I thought was this big aha moment. And the woman said, Alright, time's up. We'll see you next week. And I was like, huh? Are you serious? Like, I was so shocked. I'm like, and I'm leaving now. I know, right? And then with Judy, she read my energies so beautifully. And it was his first introduction, that we all carry our stories with us energetically. So I didn't need to talk a lot. It was so fascinating. She did so much of the talking and putting this up on it, clarifying in the what she's seeing it in. And I was just like, that was the coolest thing ever. You know, and I love that about her. And I everybody I introduced her. So just know that you don't have to say a lot. You know, you don't, you're not going to sit there and be like I've said this 100 times, but you know, we don't want to hear the broken record of your of your story. We want to hear how we're gonna snap out of it. So there's, there's a plug for Judy, inside of our episode. Yay, Judy. Is that website coming soon?
Is we're working on it, I'm helping her make that website so that people can find her.
Okay, until then I think her numbers somewhere,
you can always email us if people are really feeling called to work with her. Because this resonates with you definitely reach out to us. You can email us through our website to spiritual mamas.com or reach out with an instant message on Facebook or Instagram. And we'll connect you for sure.
Absolutely. All right. And our third question is from one of my clients, and I think it can really apply to a lot of people who own businesses or even families. If you are the, the chieftain might not be a great word to use. But if you are adults, adults in the house. How do you Yeah, right, a spiritual perspective? Yes. So how do you find the balance as a business owner, between satisfying the needs of your clients and setting up boundaries, guidelines standards of the operating systems?
And to clarify that question, it's it to me it means I could I could be catering to people all the time, because my heart is huge. And I could everybody has a special circumstances and needs. And everybody's amazing and could always use help. But I quickly found out in my business, especially with the layers, I have an interesting business, because my students are children. So I have this core. They call my clients, but I call them my students. And then I call them the parents, the clients. So I have this like second tier, and it basically doubles your workload, you know, so it's a little communicate with, it's a little overwhelming at times.
And so what I have found, and I think this is important with parenting too, is you do have to set up your boundaries, you have to set up your guidelines, set up your operating systems, you know, like you would at a computer with with the best intentions in mind and in satisfying the most needs, and then stick with it. Because if you start to make exceptions, so think about this with children, if you've got four children, and you make an exception to that second kid, when they turned 13, they got to do this, then the rest of your parenting with the other two children is going to be about catering or not catering, but I'm trying to manage that exception that you made for that other other kid. And then well why did she get that and so I think it's just important and we've talked about this with our boundary setting podcast.
To just stick with it and to explain why you have to stick with it and to be nurturing and loving around it because of course, inside of it, mother daughter or Mother Son situation, you're not always going to make your children happy when you say this is how it goes. You have to do the dishes after we eat and know you feel like relaxing. But these are the this is the operating system of this kitchen.
And it's it's having that firm boundary but communicating with kindness loving unconditionally. And also it's a teaching moment, right? I mean you teach your clients or your family or your friends how to treat you and how you want to be treated in In your life, that's part of the communication and then the boundary setting.
And there's, I hope, at least in my, in my situation, everybody knows I will bend over backwards for anybody that truly authentically needs it. But in the grand scheme of everyday maintenance and the time I reserved for my business, and then the time I truly do need for myself and my family, those are big boundaries. So stick with your stick with your operating system.
Well, then the question maybe is, how do you discern when to be firm with the boundary and when to be flexible?
Well, that is the ever going question, Alicia, I think if you really have to stick with what the two spiritual mamas have taught you, is to use your, your instincts and your intuition with each situation. And in some situations, you might say the pattern of this particular parent, or this particular child is more needy, and I have to be a little firmer with this boundary. And I'm willing to put in that time, and, and the effort. And that's is that a good answer?
Absolutely. Yeah, you're the tool is your intuition as guidance. And then the boundary is through communication and honoring energy. And it's using the spiritual tools and techniques and paradigm mindset to really be out, we're living out of those values. And out of those belief systems that you want to choose, right, instead of getting frustrated at someone over the phone, like we were talking about in the last question, being able to check in with yourself, why is it so frustrating with a mate to me? Or why is this really pushing my boundaries? So hard? What is it within me that I want to look at? And then how do I communicate that to this person? What are they even capable of hearing from me at this moment? Right, it does take a lot of communication skills, I think, to run a business especially, but within families within communities that's so vital and important.
And I kind of I wish one of our children would have asked us this question. So could have addressed directly at the mama veil, but how important is it to establish with your children that you are not their servant? You know, like, this is the clear boundary that you do put your dishes away from the living room or you know that you put your shoes away when you walk in the house, not me like, I do remember my mom saying shout out to mom. I know exactly where you've been in this house, Shelby because I could follow your trail. That's cute. I'm like, oh, but you know, I learned to clean up after myself. And I just do think that I it's important for kids and all of us to know, what is ours? What is our responsibility?
And I think that comes through empowerment, and teaching people that what would it be called that self? Respect?
Yeah. Well, it's the indigenous mindset that we talked about in our last episode that, that we're here to serve the community in the collective and we all have our part, you know, and I think children at a young age do need to learn that they have their part. They just don't get to sit back and a plate of food comes in front of them, and then it goes away. It's like you, you could do your, your little bit here, right?
We each have a part to play. I love that. And it's again, back to the teaching moment, and, and being able to empower kids. I love it. Beautiful.
Thank you so much, everybody for listening. This is such a blessing for us to be able to share our passion of connecting and communicating about these topics with each other and to share that with you and share that with the world. So please keep those questions coming. We're going to plan on adding episodes in throughout with answering questions like this fun little like, go for it.
Super fun. Thank you. Thank you so much. Have a wonderful day.
