route."},{"startTime":323.734,"endTime":327.325,"body":"I was very convinced that at the"},{"startTime":323.734,"endTime":327.325,"body":"end of college, I would go to"},{"startTime":327.325,"endTime":329.005,"body":"medical school and become a doctor."},{"startTime":329.095,"endTime":331.605,"body":"That was, that was really"},{"startTime":329.095,"endTime":331.605,"body":"my goal and my vision."},{"startTime":331.995,"endTime":338.865,"body":"Uh, and I realized, uh, In particular,"},{"startTime":331.995,"endTime":338.865,"body":"chemistry is really, really hard and was"},{"startTime":338.865,"endTime":344.325,"body":"not my thing, which really kind of broke"},{"startTime":338.865,"endTime":344.325,"body":"me down in many ways, to be honest, this,"},{"startTime":344.375,"endTime":348.594,"body":"this dream that I had had this weekly"},{"startTime":384.895,"endTime":388.935,"body":"basis going out to neighborhoods in"},{"startTime":384.895,"endTime":388.935,"body":"Los Angeles and volunteering with"},{"startTime":388.935,"endTime":393.504,"body":"nonprofit organizations and seeing"},{"startTime":388.935,"endTime":393.504,"body":"the impact that these organizations"},{"startTime":393.505,"endTime":395.295,"body":"were having on people's lives."},{"startTime":395.724,"endTime":399.234,"body":"And it was, you know, at the time"},{"startTime":395.724,"endTime":399.234,"body":"of my graduation that I, I felt"},{"startTime":399.274,"endTime":402.655,"body":"clear, like that's the sector"},{"startTime":399.274,"endTime":402.655,"body":"that I need to get involved with."},{"startTime":402.665,"endTime":405.835,"body":"That that's where I need Cancun"},{"startTime":412.005,"endTime":416.155,"body":"or Cabo with a bunch of friends to go"},{"startTime":416.164,"endTime":422.444,"body":"have a, you know, a wild, fun time after"},{"startTime":416.164,"endTime":422.444,"body":"graduation, a group of us actually went"},{"startTime":422.565,"endTime":428.485,"body":"to Tijuana and ended up doing a service"},{"startTime":422.565,"endTime":428.485,"body":"project where we helped students there."},{"startTime":428.565,"endTime":428.579,"body":"That's it."},{"startTime":428.71,"endTime":431.93,"body":"Um, build the walls for what"},{"startTime":428.71,"endTime":431.93,"body":"would be their school one day."},{"startTime":431.94,"endTime":433.8,"body":"These young elementary school students."},{"startTime":434.4,"endTime":439.02,"body":"And, and I realized in that moment"},{"startTime":434.4,"endTime":439.02,"body":"what immense privilege I had had to"},{"startTime":439.02,"endTime":443.87,"body":"go to a four year university to, to"},{"startTime":439.02,"endTime":443.87,"body":"study, to graduate with a degree."},{"startTime":444.149,"endTime":446.734,"body":"And I had this This diploma."},{"startTime":446.734,"endTime":451.275,"body":"Now that meant something in the world"},{"startTime":446.734,"endTime":451.275,"body":"and was going to open doors for me."},{"startTime":451.305,"endTime":456.484,"body":"And I knew that I had to do something with"},{"startTime":451.305,"endTime":456.484,"body":"those open doors to help the people behind"},{"startTime":456.484,"endTime":458.234,"body":"me come through the doors themselves."},{"startTime":458.234,"endTime":458.565,"body":"Right?"},{"startTime":458.914,"endTime":462.674,"body":"And that's what really ignited my"},{"startTime":458.914,"endTime":462.674,"body":"interest in the nonprofit sector."},{"startTime":462.674,"endTime":466.695,"body":"And from there, I ended up working"},{"startTime":462.674,"endTime":466.695,"body":"with a really important nonprofit"},{"startTime":466.695,"endTime":471.565,"body":"organization called NCCJ, the National"},{"startTime":466.695,"endTime":471.565,"body":"Conference for Community and Justice."},{"startTime":471.945,"endTime":473.825,"body":"And that started my career."},{"startTime":473.844,"endTime":478.18,"body":"Um, In particular, you know, around"},{"startTime":473.844,"endTime":478.18,"body":"what we now call diversity, equity and"},{"startTime":478.18,"endTime":482.609,"body":"inclusion work, um, those days, you"},{"startTime":478.18,"endTime":482.609,"body":"know, we were calling ourselves really a"},{"startTime":482.61,"endTime":485.4,"body":"human relations anti racism organization."},{"startTime":485.709,"endTime":487.07,"body":"That's what we were fighting."},{"startTime":487.14,"endTime":491.739,"body":"Um, and, and that for me then opened,"},{"startTime":487.14,"endTime":491.739,"body":"you know, another set of doors to a"},{"startTime":491.739,"endTime":497.339,"body":"world of, um, social change and, uh,"},{"startTime":491.739,"endTime":497.339,"body":"movements to improve the lives of of the issues you're"},{"startTime":500.82,"endTime":505.409,"body":"interested in, like social justice,"},{"startTime":506.319,"endTime":511.279,"body":"um, you know, anti racism, diversity,"},{"startTime":506.319,"endTime":511.279,"body":"equity, inclusion, what brought"},{"startTime":511.28,"endTime":513.149,"body":"you then to reproductive justice?"},{"startTime":515.329,"endTime":520.105,"body":"So, it's interesting, you know, When"},{"startTime":515.329,"endTime":520.105,"body":"I was at All Saints Church, I got"},{"startTime":520.105,"endTime":524.915,"body":"to know a lot of community based"},{"startTime":520.105,"endTime":524.915,"body":"organizations, including the YWCA, right?"},{"startTime":525.165,"endTime":530.964,"body":"And I remember being at an event and"},{"startTime":525.165,"endTime":530.964,"body":"the president and CEO of our local"},{"startTime":530.964,"endTime":534.554,"body":"affiliate of Planned Parenthood said"},{"startTime":530.964,"endTime":534.554,"body":"to me, I'd love for you to come into"},{"startTime":534.554,"endTime":538.905,"body":"our health center and get a tour and"},{"startTime":534.554,"endTime":538.905,"body":"learn more about all of our offerings."},{"startTime":539.035,"endTime":545.005,"body":"And I will confess, Angeline,"},{"startTime":539.035,"endTime":545.005,"body":"you know, it's so weird to all"},{"startTime":545.005,"endTime":546.365,"body":"of a sudden be confronted with."},{"startTime":546.93,"endTime":547.37,"body":"A bias."},{"startTime":548.11,"endTime":549.939,"body":"Uh, and I had one in that moment."},{"startTime":549.97,"endTime":555.939,"body":"I realized that growing up Roman Catholic"},{"startTime":549.97,"endTime":555.939,"body":"Latina, um, having gone to Catholic high"},{"startTime":555.939,"endTime":562.639,"body":"school and a university, I had been fed"},{"startTime":555.939,"endTime":562.639,"body":"messages around, uh, an organization"},{"startTime":562.649,"endTime":570.069,"body":"like Planned Parenthood and that I had"},{"startTime":562.649,"endTime":570.069,"body":"some ideas about abortion that, um, You"},{"startTime":570.069,"endTime":574.319,"body":"know, really made me feel uncomfortable"},{"startTime":570.069,"endTime":574.319,"body":"about the invitation, quite honestly, I"},{"startTime":574.33,"endTime":577.35,"body":"had never been in a Planned Parenthood"},{"startTime":574.33,"endTime":577.35,"body":"health center before because I'd never"},{"startTime":577.37,"endTime":582.609,"body":"had to, and one of the few people who"},{"startTime":577.37,"endTime":582.609,"body":"had always had access to medical care."},{"startTime":583.43,"endTime":587.34,"body":"And, um, you know, again, I had these"},{"startTime":583.43,"endTime":587.34,"body":"notions around Planned Parenthood,"},{"startTime":587.76,"endTime":590.569,"body":"and I was also incredibly curious."},{"startTime":590.99,"endTime":594.469,"body":"You know, I realized at the"},{"startTime":590.99,"endTime":594.469,"body":"same time, I want to know more."},{"startTime":594.469,"endTime":595.579,"body":"I need to learn she"},{"startTime":615.03,"endTime":618.48,"body":"was doing with parents at Madison"},{"startTime":615.03,"endTime":618.48,"body":"Elementary at that point in time."},{"startTime":618.97,"endTime":619.5,"body":"And."},{"startTime":620.375,"endTime":623.495,"body":"You know, it wasn't too long after"},{"startTime":620.375,"endTime":623.495,"body":"that, that the board chair then"},{"startTime":623.495,"endTime":626.564,"body":"approached me and said, we'd love for"},{"startTime":623.495,"endTime":626.564,"body":"you to join the board of dinner"},{"startTime":645.29,"endTime":650.19,"body":"with a very dear friend of mine and I"},{"startTime":650.19,"endTime":654.64,"body":"was telling her about the experience and,"},{"startTime":650.19,"endTime":654.64,"body":"you know, I said, Oh my gosh, you know,"},{"startTime":654.64,"endTime":659.54,"body":"they do, they do pap smears and they do"},{"startTime":654.64,"endTime":659.54,"body":"HIV testing and they do breast exams and,"},{"startTime":659.55,"endTime":663.519,"body":"you know, there, there's even some, um,"},{"startTime":659.55,"endTime":663.519,"body":"you know, basic primary care work that's"},{"startTime":663.529,"endTime":667.05,"body":"happening there because these patients"},{"startTime":663.529,"endTime":667.05,"body":"aren't getting to see anybody else."},{"startTime":667.38,"endTime":670.35,"body":"And, you know, and I was speaking"},{"startTime":667.38,"endTime":670.35,"body":"about it with such excitement."},{"startTime":670.35,"endTime":670.419,"body":"All right."},{"startTime":670.78,"endTime":676.12,"body":"And,
