From beautiful downtown Merryfields in the Shadow of the Mosaic District, it's the Ready Kilowatt Hour on Radio Fairfax. Tonight we've mixed a lot of older music along with a few new ones. We've got the latest from Vince Staples and Role Model. Some late 70s and early 80s classics from Susie and the Banshees, The Contortions, and Miss Kate Bush. And a little bit darker stuff from King Dude and Chelsea Wolf, along with Frail and tons and tons more. For right now we start off with a new one from Toronto's Weird Nightmare. This is where I belong.

SPEAKER_16

And baby, don't you stick together? And why don't you just fall apart? You better try being stupid. Ow, instead of smile. It once you take out all the garbage that's in your brain. Forget about your future. I get a chance, the challenge, the chelsea, I just do tape. Control yourself. At first you ride in position, and then you shadow your friend. And then you stretch your resistance. It's got your minds to full way. And once you forget your affection, all the human race. Reduce yourself into a zero. Good job yourself one time. Good job yourself two times. Good job yourself three times.

SPEAKER_00

I got tired just listening to that. The song is called Contort Yourself, off a nineteen seventy-nine album called Bye, led by singer and sex player James Chance. You wanted punk and disco? You wanted a rather generous helping of a tonal noise as well. Well, there you go. Something for everyone there. Before that, we heard Suzy and the Banshees. Their very first single from 1978 off their first album, The Scream. The name of that song was Hong Kong Garden. And that wasn't too long after Suzy was Sex Pistols fangirl number one. She was following her heroes around England to their gigs. This particular song was about Susie Su's favorite Chinese takeout restaurant in Southeast London. And unfortunately, there were a lot of skinheads used to hang out there and cause trouble for the owners. And uh she early on tried to be on the right side of history, of course. Before that, role model opened up our set with High Hopes 3000 off the brand new album Chuck Timely in the Hourglass. It will be out on August 7th. Tucker Pillsbury is role model. He hails from Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and began his musical career while at Point Park University in Pittsburgh. He was a rapper originally. He is going to be playing September 22nd in DC at the Anthem. Well, well, well, you and I are listening to the world-famous Ready Kilowatt Hour coming to you live from the studios of Radio Fairfax, a service of Fairfax Public Access in the rather chirpy Fairfax, Virginia. If you have any comments or requests, or just want to love us, please follow our Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok pages. Or drop me a line at ReadyK Radio at gmail.com. That's R-E-D-D-Y-K Radio. I am the rather ambivalent Ready K Kilowatt. We're gonna enter a little bit of a dark and mystic set here. This song goes all the way back to 2014, a duet by Chelsea Wolf and King Dude. This is a song called Be Free.

SPEAKER_11

Last night I was free. Outside in a field where we both fell in love, and I knew it was real. You put me outside, I was singing a song. You looked to the window, but I was already gone. Don't think about it.

SPEAKER_08

Don't think about don't think about that.

SPEAKER_00

We don't have any other odd end. The record was called 1592. It was released around the start of the pandemic, it was recorded in the year 2020, and the song we heard was a started out with Hing Dude, aka D J Howville from Henry, Washington. And he was singing an atune with Kelsey Wolf from Sacramento, California, also known as Kelsey Wolf. The album they did was sing more songs together. That was in the year 2014. The song we heard was V3. You're listening to Already killed what hour on Radio Fair. James Bay is an award-winning performer coming from the town north of London called Hitchen. He's been joined with a lot of big artists over the years. This is on his 2018 album called Electric Light. We're going to hear a song called Pink Lemonade.

SPEAKER_10

He left us lost, single shame. So drop the needle, turn up and lie. Break a spin in it, show him not it. Music make you feel just like cotton. Pick me up when I feel like fallin'. Pick me up when I feel like fallin'. Pick me up when I feel like fallin'. Drop the needle, turn up and lie it. Break a spinning it, show him not it. Music make you feel just like it. Pick me up when I feel like fallin'. Pick me up when I feel like fallin' down. As life goes on, and there gets close. You need someone that makes you hold that's love, but please don't be DC If you choose wrong. Let's take care of But drop the needle, turn up the light, break it speedin' and show him not it. Music make you feel just like cotton. Pick me up when I feel like fallin'. Pick me up when I feel like fallin'. Pick me up when I feel like fallin'. Drop the needle, turn up the light. Show him not it. Music make you feel just like oddly. Pick me up when I feel like fallin' down. Pick me up when I feel like fallin' down. Pick me up when I feel like fallin', dance from it, dance for me. I wanna shake, dance, from it, dance for me. I wanna shake, dance from it, dance for me. I wanna see dance from it, dance for me. I love the shit, move from it, move for me. I wanna see move from it, groove from me. I want the shit, move from the groove for me. I wanna see move from it, move for me. I wanna see I think you can turn up the guide, speaking and show him that. Pick me up when I feel like fallin'.

SPEAKER_00

Those are the Donna's. The song, Take It Off. From an album from 2002 called Spend the Night. The Donna's got tired of the music industry grind. They went through a fairly acrimonious split, or at least the media portrayed it as being acrimonious. The drummer ended up going to Harvard Law School and now works as a public defender. Their singer went to both UTLA and USC and is now working as a social worker. The other two, I don't know what happened to them. Anyway, the Donna's very big group in the early 2000s in the alternative rock and roll world. Before that, Vince Staples from his latest album, Crybaby. We heard Cotton, Vince Staples, a Netflix film star and uh actor and all those other wonderful things, as well as a musician. He was born in Compton, California. He lives in Long Beach, I guess. Focusing on music right now with his uh Netflix show being canceled, and uh Vince Staples is playing in Silver Spring on October 29th at the Fillmore. Before that, we heard James Bay, who opened up where our set with a song from his album from 2018, Electric Light, Pink Lemonade. He's from Kitchen, England, just north of London, I guess not far from Luton Airport. He's toured with Taylor Swift and Rolling Stones and Lumineers and a lot of other big uh mucky mucks in the rock and roll world. You are listening to the Ready Kildawatt Hour. We are going to take it to the top of the hour now. Charlie Crockett, an indie country musician, he had a record deal. He finished up his record deal and decided to go indie again and have complete control of what it is that he's performing. Back in 21, he did an album where he paid tribute to the singer, songwriter James Hand. The album was called Ten for Slim. Charlie Crockett sings James Hand. We're going to hear Midnight Run.

SPEAKER_12

Can forget about what used to be, be happy with the way life is. To where I lived when I thought I was alive. They'll never know I was ever around. Just my saddle on the round. I turn east to face the sun after making me a midnight run.

SPEAKER_00

Came out in 2021, recorded around the time of the pandemic. Charlie Crockett is from San Benito, Texas. He is playing in Charlottesville on September 5th at the Ting Pavilion. And with that, once again, it's time to unplug the Ready Kilowatt Hour for this week. A reminder, you can stream our old shows at readykradio.buzzprout.com or on your favorite podcast apps. We will be back on Radio Fairfax next week with both rock and roll. Till then, it's Ready J Kilowatt, your rock and roll servant. Stay well, stay safe, and please don't kill anyone. Good night.
