SPEAKER_00

I'm ready to From beautiful downtown Merryfield in the shadow of the Mosaic District. It's the Ready Kilowatt Hour on Radio Fairfax. Tonight we hear the solo debut of 79-year-old Lenny Kay, and a song from the 1971 debut album by JJ Cale. But most of our stuff tonight is going to be brand new. We'll hear Canadian band Born at Midnight, New Zealand band Play for Keeps, a Dutch band called Library Card, British band Tooth, and from here in the U.S., new ones from Athens, Georgia legend Mike Richmond, The Mountain Goats, Iration, and Truman Flyer. For now, another new one from Canada. Adventures is the brainchild of founding band member Ian Locke out of Victoria, British Columbia. This is the title track from their new LP, It's Adventures. Things will not be okay.

SPEAKER_11

When you hear, when you fear, when the end is fighting, all the thoughts, all the cost, all the consequences clear when the odds are failure.

SPEAKER_14

All the time you I can level. Well I can do three bell.

SPEAKER_02

I feel someone creeping in me now. Tired of this time again Well, I don't know, but I've been told You never slow down, you never grow old, tired of screwing up, tired of going down, tired of myself, tired of this town. Oh my mind, oh hell yes, honey put on that party dress. Buy me a drink, sing me a song, take me as I come, cause I can't stay long. Last steps with every dream. One more time to kill the bed. She's standing in an onduer, looking down from a hotel room. Nightfall will be coming soon. Oh my, oh hell yes, you gotta put on that party dress. It was too cold to cry when I woke up alone. Walk through the road, last dance with Mary Jane. One more time to cube.

SPEAKER_00

They're a reggae and pop band from Santa Barbara, California. All the members originally are from Hawaii. They're doing a pretty faithful cover of a Tom Eddie tune, Mary Jane's Last Dance. Before that, midnight, they're from Montreal playing some days in August and September. Johnny Brandon really. Mike Richmond was the leader of the band Love Tractor out of Athens, Georgia. Musical had since the 1980s, and you know there were the home of bands like REM. So this is Mike Richmond's solo debut album. It's called Without an Audience. And we're gonna dig in here for a 7-minute 21-second long track about his days as a naval aviator before being in a band. You can tell a little bit of southern rock, there are some early REM, a little bit of doors, and some psychedelia mixed in for good measure. This is Mike Richmond. The song is called Maiden Voyage.

SPEAKER_05

Until the young sailor lost his mind to the crying floor, and later the common battle sandlight. We pulled into the neighbours about the hour of journey. Thou are sending in life for my very fashion and everything was going fine and the summer life not kiss the girl. The house features were failing faster. The skill mission failed the task. Slept through the suffocating heat of the day in all Victorian mansion, perfect and decay. The try to write and the trust to go like tell the market so when we come home and talk in the try to be love, try to comment down the look of for tea.

SPEAKER_03

Don't change Light me up in your mysterious wave Wrapped up in a technical wave of emptiness We sound every time when I come around you we ask for more You know me baby keep this go an enemy find an enemy It's called the Alfred You know me baby out here I shiny a shot Shiny ya shy less behave Waving like a dandy lying above your grave sweat Undercover is emptiness We sound every sound like cloud we ask for more You know that all keep the star Why can I see an enemy? It's called the only baby I'll be here for me as she got me out of the cows.

SPEAKER_06

I didn't mean it, I didn't even try to conceal it. I do not think that you would treat it this way. How could I know it? You're not the type to tell it, show it. Looks like we got the devil to pay. I still remember the suspended. It's not one thing, it's one of the baby. You made me suspect, I couldn't tell you what to expect. I didn't think that you would leave me this way. I need to see you, I really, really need to see you. But I know you're just a burrow away. Across the water, we do a dance and water. Tryna keep all worlds alive. I'm feeling like a fucking jerk. Tryna keep my hopes alive. So I see the bigger seeker. We can't drink the colour. See the nigga through the nigga. Can't keep going so that we hold that spine on the dial.

SPEAKER_10

I'll make sure that something else.

SPEAKER_02

So alive, busy still says, but when you damage that smash your mercy defense, but we're right and then we have to cry. One has one scale. Let's go, you got the music. A vision of loveliness. Me, a woman of loneliness. I see you standing addressed, you look at me, I tremble there and open my mouth to speak. But I just run, I'm too scared to play with file. And I sing old, I didn't have you bow. I can't deal with that to style. I need you to know I hold you in my dreams.

SPEAKER_00

I need a new version of Hirch Hollywood. I think it hurts on it. Lenny has made three appearances in the region of April. He was touring with Dave Alvin and Jimmy Gail Gilmour. We're listening to the Ready Kill One Hour. Here is a quartet from Rotterdam in the Netherlands. They call themselves Library Card. Their new album is called Peeling an Orange in Just One Go, and it's gonna be out on November 6th. We're gonna do a song called People Pleaser.

SPEAKER_12

Live up to expectation, agreeable in nature. I am the incarnation of modesty and owners. You're so mature for your ancient. You're so mature. You're so mature for a right. You're so mature. Learn a bite harder. What a horrible sight to behold. Learn a fight harder. Please come down and do as you're told. I'm sorry, but your tears have no place here. That's a different show. I'm sorry about your tears at no place here. That's a different show. Let's draw a line right through it. We'll forget it ever happened. The fire remains unlit. Let the visitors dishearten. SPEAKER_01

I have no ambition. I'm only an addition. My life is a rendition of a patriarch's tuition. I am made of plastic. My stars only avoided. At all costs, I'll avoid it. Become a discipline.

SPEAKER_08

Everybody's making money, everybody's flying high. Who among my brethren is more beautiful than I? Who puts out on the carpet? Who knows ahead of time? Which camera he should turn to when it's time to say a line. I'm watching movies, heart pounding like a drum. Call out in the dark for somebody to come. Do you see what I see? There's no way all that's fake. Only so much a good man can take. But you can't fight him all alone. Please, James, get the director on the phone. I will rise to this occasion.

SPEAKER_02

I will rise to this occasion. I will rise to this occasion.

SPEAKER_08

I will rise to this occasion I lead the agents back into the screening room. And in the dark we watch the blood flowers bloom, and then the credits seem to roll on forever. I know people who can find out who put this thing together. After a while, one of them said Listen Charlie, you're from Hollywood. And the moving pictures are what they used to be, it's true. But I'm not sure what you think the bureau can do. Gentlemen, the camera doesn't lie. How many more innocent women must die? I will rise to this occasion.

SPEAKER_02

I will rise to this occasion. I will rise, rise to this occasion.

SPEAKER_00

It was his only top 40 hit, although his songs became hits for Leonard Skinnard, Eric Clapton, and others. Songs like Cocaine, After Midnight, Call Me the Breeze. He literally had no money when he made that album, so he recorded the instruments himself except for the drums, and you know he couldn't afford a drummer. So this was one of the earliest records to have a drum machine on it. Before that, we heard the Mountain Goats. Charlie Sheen reaches out to the feds off their latest album, Days, which will be out on August 7th. The band recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. They're currently based in Durham, North Carolina, originally out of California. They will be making it as close as Norfolk, Virginia at the Norva on August 21st. The night before, they will be in Lidditz, Pennsylvania at Mickey's Black Box. Before that, we heard Library Card from Rotterdam and the Netherlands People Pleaser. Their new album, Peeling an Orange, in just one go is gonna be out on November 6th. You're tuned to the Ready Kilowatt Hour. We're gonna take it to the top of the hour now. Tooth comes from the UK. This is a song about love and loss in the big city. From their debut EP called Restless in Bloom, this is School Yard. Doing School Yard from their EP Restless in Bloom. And with that, it's time to unplug Ready Kilowatt Hour for this week. A reminder you can stream our old shows on readykradio.buzzroute.com or on your favorite podcast apps. And uh as you're listening to this, I'm probably not listening to this. I'm on an airplane somewhere coming back from San Diego, so this was a pre-recorded show, and hope you enjoyed it just the same. And uh I was in San Diego, and I'm not gonna complain about 78-degree temperatures, which are the perpetual temperatures in San Diego. And uh I was there for a meeting of some kind. Fortunately, the hotel was right on the water, right across from the baseball stadium, uh, and so I got to see a Padres game and a lot of cool stuff going on. Anyway, I will be back next Thursday, nine o'clock, live with both rock and roll. So next time it's Ready J Kilowatt, your rock and roll servant. Stay well, stay safe, and please don't kill anyone. Good night.
