00:01:21.804 --> 00:01:37.206 I encounter people all the time who you know they've been through some kind of relational turmoil and something on the inside kind of wilts, and they begin to shut down And they start to see themselves as like well, you know, i'm kind of like a damaged thing now, like I've got issues. 00:01:37.206 --> 00:01:42.025 I'm messed up And let's be clear, we all got issues And nobody not got issues. 00:01:42.025 --> 00:01:45.801 But they begin to like, categorize themselves differently. 00:01:45.801 --> 00:01:48.989 Okay, well, i don't know if that is really for me. believe that gives all of us hope Like, hey, man, there's still time. 00:02:53.664 --> 00:02:59.266 He was 40 when he didn't get his dream to come true And he waited 40 more years And it was just as strong. 00:02:59.266 --> 00:03:03.123 He and Joshua, they're the only ones that lasted And he saw his dream come true. 00:03:05.067 --> 00:03:12.706 But then sometimes the thing you thought was gonna happen just it's not gonna happen because that's not what God wanted to happen. 00:03:12.706 --> 00:03:15.860 That's not what's going to happen. 00:03:15.860 --> 00:03:18.448 And there's something in us, there's a dream that begins to die. 00:03:18.448 --> 00:03:21.485 And what do we do when that dream begins to die? 00:03:21.485 --> 00:03:23.311 And we find ourselves? 00:03:23.311 --> 00:03:25.236 we say I didn't picture this. 00:03:25.236 --> 00:03:44.768 I didn't picture finding myself at this point in life alone, and you've seen this For some people this begins to fester And it begins people get angry And they're like I'm irritated, i'm frustrated that this didn't go the way that I want. 00:03:44.968 --> 00:03:47.240 And sometimes they're even a little bit frustrated with God. 00:03:47.240 --> 00:03:52.896 Sometimes they're themselves a little bit to blame, sometimes it's somebody else. 00:03:52.896 --> 00:04:00.789 You know they were involved and they were a part of it and they didn't do their thing And they kept oh, they just wouldn't stop and they wouldn't leave it alone. 00:04:00.789 --> 00:04:03.139 And then they just let go. 00:04:03.139 --> 00:04:08.133 And sometimes that that was partly our fault And sometimes it wasn't our fault at all. 00:04:08.133 --> 00:04:23.629 Sometimes it looks really promising But then they never texted back And they never called back, they never wrote a note, they never did anything like that. 00:04:23.629 --> 00:04:32.687 And then when you asked them about that, like oh, i think maybe you misunderstood or you know that wasn't my narrative, you know like it was pretty much your narrative when your hands were all over me. 00:04:32.687 --> 00:04:33.781 I don't know what happened there. 00:04:36.827 --> 00:04:48.257 And yet somehow it's just not coming together like we thought it was And sometimes even when we took vows, it's not ending up the way that we thought. 00:04:48.257 --> 00:04:54.269 Nobody even more infuriating and difficult is when it seems like everybody else is getting their thing. 00:05:02.920 --> 00:05:08.524 For everybody else it's coming true, so like they have my dream. know, like I'm doing it right, i did it good, i was doing it by the book, but they didn't do it by the book. 00:05:26.711 --> 00:05:33.716 Or even though we both did what we could, for some reason, But I want to let you know That the people that came before us, the people that followed Christ, the people that were used by God to write down the inspired words of scripture, and they passed it on one of those people Had dreams that didn't come true. 00:06:35.771 --> 00:06:42.389 Every one of those people had stuff that they don't, maybe this and then no, then it didn't happen. 00:06:42.389 --> 00:06:46.776 See, god uses people whose dreams don't all come true. 00:06:46.776 --> 00:06:49.735 Now we want to be like Caleb, we want to push forward. 00:06:49.735 --> 00:06:51.884 I mean, i really believe this is this is New Testament. 00:06:51.884 --> 00:06:54.492 I mean like we should believe every chance we get. 00:06:54.492 --> 00:07:04.314 We should know I'm taking this, i'm digging in, and even the New Testament points out that there's some things you're you're just not gonna get because you You're not willing to believe God again. 00:07:04.314 --> 00:07:12.293 But then there's the other version, where it's just not what God wanted to happen And we're like God Do you know about my dream? 00:07:12.293 --> 00:07:16.615 He's like oh, i know, i just had something else. 00:07:16.615 --> 00:07:20.185 Every one of those people down through the centuries that lead right up to us. 00:07:20.185 --> 00:07:26.158 They weren't cursed, they were chosen. 00:07:26.158 --> 00:07:35.117 They weren't broken, they were blessed, even though not all their dreams came true. 00:07:35.117 --> 00:07:41.831 They didn't like the hand that they were dealt, but they decided. 00:07:41.831 --> 00:07:53.404 --> 00:07:55.404 Let's look at some examples. 00:07:55.404 --> 00:07:58.754 We'll start with Mary. 00:07:58.754 --> 00:08:00.641 Many remember Mary, the mother of Jesus. 00:08:00.641 --> 00:08:01.865 Okay, her life is totally turned upside down. 00:08:01.865 --> 00:08:07.079 She's like a teenager and she gets this news. 00:08:07.079 --> 00:08:08.081 You're going to have this on. 00:08:08.081 --> 00:08:08.964 It's gonna change everything. 00:08:08.964 --> 00:08:11.081 You're gonna be rejected. 00:08:11.081 --> 00:08:11.584 Your reputation is gone. 00:08:11.584 --> 00:08:15.399 Man, like, everybody's gonna be talking about you, probably for the rest of your life. 00:08:15.399 --> 00:08:18.935 And then, once she even has the child, she's told get this prophecy. 00:08:18.935 --> 00:08:20.524 Yeah, how would you like to hear this one? 00:08:20.524 --> 00:08:25.360 This one is gonna cause the rising of and falling of many in our country. 00:08:25.360 --> 00:08:26.764 And, by the way, a sword is gonna pierce your own heart. 00:08:26.764 --> 00:08:30.225 How'd you like to read that in the fortune cookie? 00:08:30.225 --> 00:08:33.837 That's what's spoken over her. there's John the Baptist. 00:08:48.028 --> 00:08:48.711 Remember this guy? 00:08:48.711 --> 00:08:50.760 400 years, he was prophesied. 00:08:50.760 --> 00:08:54.736 For 400 years, this forerunner to the Messiah was supposed to come and he finally comes. 00:08:54.736 --> 00:08:56.162 And I'm thinking he might, he probably. 00:08:56.162 --> 00:08:57.548 It's gonna go Pretty well for him. 00:08:57.548 --> 00:09:03.933 I mean, this whole time everyone's been waiting for him And he has, like you know, 20 minutes of fame. 00:09:03.933 --> 00:09:09.350 And then one of his disciples come up to him and they're like hey, man, um, yeah, everyone's starting to follow Jesus. 00:09:09.350 --> 00:09:14.424 And just you know, like John, he doesn't know this yet, but he's, he's just a few steps away from getting his own head cut off. 00:09:14.424 --> 00:09:16.092 He's gonna be violent. 00:09:16.092 --> 00:09:16.716 That wasn't his dream. 00:09:16.716 --> 00:09:22.950 But even when people start to not follow him anymore, he says John, 3, 27. 00:09:22.970 --> 00:09:26.465 A person can receive not even one thing unless it's been given to him from heaven. 00:09:26.465 --> 00:09:31.403 He's like, look, this came, this didn't come from me, and so God wants to take it away now. 00:09:31.403 --> 00:09:33.169 Let him do it. 00:09:33.169 --> 00:09:35.812 Let him do it. 00:09:35.812 --> 00:09:41.575 And then, most important of all, jesus, he's in the garden to get some any. 00:09:41.575 --> 00:09:49.203 He's about to be arrested, he's about to be tortured and crucified And bear the sin of the world and he says I mean I think it's important that we know that he said this. 00:09:49.203 --> 00:09:51.673 He says, father, if you're willing, remove this cup from me. 00:09:51.673 --> 00:09:57.597 I mean he asked for this, not that he's asking. 00:09:57.597 --> 00:10:01.692 Just like you've asked for some things to not happen, jesus asked for something to not happen. 00:10:01.692 --> 00:10:09.100 That Was it. 00:10:09.100 --> 00:10:17.864 He's like this dream, but if it's your dream, god, if it's what you want Yet not my will, but yours be done. 00:10:17.864 --> 00:10:19.268 And here's what happens. 00:10:19.288 --> 00:10:21.937 We see people you've seen them, i've seen them, we see. 00:10:21.937 --> 00:10:40.029 But we see people begin begin to when they Begin to sense, oh, i'm losing control again, oh this isn't gonna go the way that I wanted it to, and they just begin to panic and they begin to resist and they begin to push back and they just go into kind of like flight mode or fight mode, and What they're really doing? 00:10:40.029 --> 00:10:43.384 they don't mean to do it, but they're trying to control their circumstances. 00:10:43.384 --> 00:11:17.989 They're just trying for this to never happen again And sometimes they reject everybody and other times they, because their their worth has been so attacked, they just say yes to everybody And they just give themselves away and they don't respect what God made them And they do this thing that we all do To a degree, and it's we try to manipulate, we try to control, we try to control the outcomes of our life In such a way that we're not even really listening, we're not even caring whether or not What God wants is actually about to happen. 00:11:17.989 --> 00:11:21.503 But then we see other people, and you know these people. 00:11:21.503 --> 00:11:26.299 These people Are in our church. 00:11:26.299 --> 00:11:37.124 There's people Yeah, their dream did not come true And it hurt, just like it hurt you, but they decided You know, i'm still gonna believe God for opportunities. 00:11:37.825 --> 00:11:38.808 I still think God can do something. 00:11:38.808 --> 00:11:42.284 I didn't, i didn't plan on this, i didn't want this, but I think God can still do something. 00:11:42.284 --> 00:11:47.240 I think there's more to the story. 00:11:47.240 --> 00:11:50.610 Maybe I think maybe God is so in charge that he saw this coming And that maybe he knew my dream. 00:11:50.610 --> 00:12:02.744 But he has a better dream And he's gonna use the pain, just like the Messiah experienced, to bring me into his perfect will. 00:12:02.744 --> 00:12:09.288 And so they remain open and they don't allow themselves to become cynical and they don't allow themselves to become bitter. 00:12:09.288 --> 00:12:19.825 Now, something that takes folks out when it comes to this Is they just have some wrong presuppositions. 00:12:19.825 --> 00:12:23.865 There's a phony deal that is made sometimes. a bunch of shows really fast, okay. 00:12:40.712 --> 00:12:46.589 And so all this, this group of people, were all living together off campus and they were all living together Off campus and there's no since I did God must, since I did, since I did this and I tried this and I went after this and even my heart was right And I made a deal. 00:14:19.883 --> 00:14:24.307 Since I did God must, and we just gotta understand I get that. 00:14:24.307 --> 00:14:25.129 I've made that deal. 00:14:25.129 --> 00:14:28.025 We've all gotta know that's in us. 00:14:28.025 --> 00:14:36.447 We'll make deals that God is not making, but that that even tastes a little like it, because you're still trusting Christ for forgiveness. 00:14:36.447 --> 00:14:37.945 But that is not the gospel. 00:14:37.945 --> life, i will give you a version of life that you've never experienced before, and I'll make your whole life count. 00:15:25.899 --> 00:15:32.958 You'll trade in some of your plans, some of your plans, some of your plans and some of your plans, and you'll be able to do that. 00:15:32.958 --> 00:15:36.322 You'll trade in some of your plans, some of your dreams, some of what you want. 00:15:36.322 --> 00:15:38.565 You trade that in and I'll give you something better. 00:15:38.565 --> 00:15:46.186 And sometimes it's just a consolation of more of his presence, and sometimes it is it's open doors and today I'm gonna cut your head off. 00:17:10.145 --> 00:17:12.787 And he's not afraid, not because he's powerful. 00:17:12.787 --> 00:17:20.911 He runs at him with a slingshot right in the head, cuts
