bit tighter than everybody else, and so when Lazarus gets sick, mary and Martha are like we know who we're going to call and they send word to Jesus, who is not with them at that moment. 00:03:17.122 --> 00:03:19.832 We're going to pick it up in John 1 or 11. 00:03:19.832 --> 00:03:22.461 Number one we're going to learn about dealing with despair. 00:03:22.461 --> 00:03:24.425 Here it is A man named Lazarus was sick. 00:03:24.425 --> 00:03:27.652 He lived in Bethany with his sisters, mary and Martha. 00:03:27.652 --> 00:03:31.896 This is the Mary who later poured the expensive perfume on the Lord's feet and wiped them with her hair. 00:03:31.896 --> 00:03:34.067 Her brother, lazarus, was sick. 00:03:34.067 --> 00:03:39.347 So the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him Lord, your dear friend is very sick. 00:03:39.347 --> 00:03:40.801 Notice how they throw a deer in there. 00:03:40.801 --> 00:03:42.843 They're like remember who this guy is. 00:03:42.843 --> 00:03:44.126 He's a really important one. 00:03:44.126 --> 00:03:45.627 Whatever you're doing, please come and heal him. 00:03:45.627 --> 00:03:51.014 But when Jesus heard about it, he said Lazarus' sickness will not end in death. 00:03:51.014 --> 00:03:56.027 No, it happened for the glory of God, so that the son of God will receive glory from this. 00:03:56.027 --> 00:04:06.032 So although Jesus loved Martha, mary and Lazarus important to note although he loved them, he stayed where he was for the next two days. 00:04:06.032 --> 00:04:11.381 Finally, he said to the disciples let's go back to Judea Now. 00:04:11.401 --> 00:04:12.706 The disciples are a little bit afraid of that. 00:04:12.706 --> 00:04:13.883 They're afraid if they go there. 00:04:13.883 --> 00:04:17.250 Jesus tends to make trouble in a lot of the places that he goes. 00:04:17.250 --> 00:04:30.946 They're afraid Not only is he going to get stoned, but they're probably going to get a little bit stoned as well, not in that way Hit by there again? 00:04:37.990 --> 00:04:41.403 Jesus replied there are 12 hours of daylight every day. 00:04:41.403 --> 00:04:47.593 During the day people can walk safely, they can see because they have asleep, but now I will go and wake him up. 00:04:55.670 --> 00:05:00.372 The disciples ever dim, like, not necessarily cluing in to what Jesus is saying. 00:05:00.372 --> 00:05:02.767 Lord, if he's sleeping, he will soon get better. 00:05:02.767 --> 00:05:10.041 They thought Jesus meant Lazarus was simply sleeping, as though Jesus would have to cross, go all the way back to wake up somebody from a nap. 00:05:10.041 --> 00:05:12.627 But Jesus meant Lazarus had died. 00:05:12.627 --> 00:05:21.220 And so he told them plainly Lazarus is dead and for your sakes I'm glad I wasn't there For now you will really believe Come, let's go see him. 00:05:21.220 --> 00:05:22.723 Verse 17,. 00:05:22.744 --> 00:05:27.653 When Jesus arrived at Bethany, he was told that Lazarus had already been in his grave for four days. 00:05:27.653 --> 00:05:31.728 So this is complicated math, okay, so don't think about it too hard. 00:05:31.728 --> 00:05:37.949 But apparently when they sent this messenger to Jesus, that was the very day that Lazarus also died. 00:05:37.949 --> 00:05:41.189 And now it takes a day to get there. 00:05:41.189 --> 00:05:44.524 Then there's two days that Jesus waits and then he comes back on this day and here he is. 00:05:44.524 --> 00:05:46.966 Okay, so now Lazarus has been dead for four days. 00:05:47.788 --> 00:05:52.875 Bethany was only a few miles down the road from Jerusalem and many of the people had come to console Martha and Mary in their loss. 00:05:52.875 --> 00:05:59.819 When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him, but Mary stayed in the house. they started. 00:09:01.577 --> 00:09:07.153 These poisonous snakes started to kill a lot of them and so God told hey, moses, you're going to need some performance art. 00:09:07.153 --> 00:09:14.691 I want you to make it sounds weird a pole with a snake on it and I want you to lift it up and everybody who looks at that pole, they're going to be healed. 00:09:14.691 --> 00:09:17.847 It's weird, it's a weird way to heal people, but that's the way I want to do it. 00:09:17.847 --> 00:09:30.059 And Jesus says that was actually about me, by the way Verse. 00:09:30.080 --> 00:09:34.229 By the way, verse 14 is as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the son of man must be lifted up so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life. 00:09:34.229 --> 00:09:36.113 If you look at the snake on Moses' pole, you get healed from snake bites. 00:09:36.113 --> 00:09:45.214 I guess If you look at Jesus and believe who he says he is, you get healed from
