In this episode, I sit down with adventure photographer, filmmaker, and author Cory Richards to talk about his remarkable new book, The Color of Everything, and the very human terrain that comes with chasing big mountains and a meaningful life. We dive into bipolar disorder how the creative “up” can be followed by a paralyzing “down,” why “balance” might be something you measure across a lifetime, and the simple, daily pillars Cory uses to stay grounded.
Cory talks candidly about hypersexuality, shame, and finding value beyond adrenaline and we share vulnerable stories about ambiguous loss, aging parents, and holding on to humor and love when life gets brutally real.
Whether you’re an athlete, artist, or anyone walking through hard seasons, this conversation is raw, practical, and full of heart.
This week on the show, I’m joined by endurance athlete, educator, and record-breaking peak-bagger Jason Hardrath for a powerful and deeply honest conversation about what it really means to pursue big goals and live with intention.
Jason is best known for completing 100 FKTs (Fastest Known Times), including the legendary Bulgers List in Washington and the Infinity Loop on Denali. But in this episode, we go beyond the records. We talk about ADHD, the stories we tell ourselves, and the role movement plays in healing and growth.
Jason opens up about his journey from a life-altering car crash to finding purpose through endurance pursuits, how teaching kids helps him become a better athlete (and vice versa), and why nuance, structure, and mentorship are key to doing hard things well.
This week on the show, I’m joined by former pro cyclist, Grand Tour veteran, Olympian, NBC Sports analyst, and now mental performance coach, Brent Bookwalter.
We had a great conversation about life on and off the bike. Brent shares his unforgettable experience helping Cadel Evans win the 2011 Tour de France, reflects on the evolution of team dynamics in pro cycling, and breaks down how the sport is shifting with the rise of data and the emergence of the next generation of riders.
He also opens up about his own transition from elite racing to coaching, the role of mental fitness, and what it really means to support athlete well-being, especially during pivotal life and career transitions.
Big thanks to my producer and friend Anthony Palmer of Palm Tree Pod Co. for joining in on the conversation as well.
Be sure to catch Brent daily on Peacock throughout July as he covers the Tour de France, and check out his website to learn more about his coaching services.

What does it really mean to accomplish something and why doesn’t it always feel the way we think it should?
This week, I’m joined by my good friend, longtime pro mountain biker, and mindset coach Sonya Looney for a deep and honest conversation about something a lot of us wrestle with, perfectionism.
Sonya and I dive into what it means to strive with purpose, how to redefine accomplishment through contribution instead of comparison, and why feeling like we matter isn’t always about metrics. We also talk about big transitions, like Sonya’s move from full-time bike racing to trail running and mental performance coaching—and the freedom (and fear) that comes with letting go of old identities.
If you’ve ever been stuck chasing numbers, doubting your worth, or wondering if it’s okay to want something new, I think you’ll find a lot to chew on here. Sonya brings her usual clarity, research-backed wisdom, and vulnerability to the table and I’m always grateful to learn from her!

I’m stoked to introduce you to three incredible athletes and good friends from the Colorado endurance scene: Josiah Middaugh, and his sons, Porter and Sullivan. You’ve probably heard Josiah on the show before — he’s an XTERRA World Champion and one of the most respected voices in endurance sports. Now, his sons are stepping up and following in his footsteps, and it’s pretty inspiring to see.
We dive into what it means to fuel like a pro — both in racing and in everyday life. From training in the snow-packed streets of Colorado to chasing PRs in hot Arizona marathons, these guys are doing the work and bringing a ton of wisdom to the table. We cover:
Whether you're chasing a podium or just trying to make your long runs suck a little less, there's a lot here for you. Let's go!
This episode is a special one. I’m joined by my friend Nickademus de la Rosa—ultra runner, coach, and mental performance consultant—for a powerful, real, and deeply personal conversation. Nick takes us through his journey from being an ego-driven, results-focused athlete to someone who’s learned, through some incredibly hard life experiences, how to lead with compassion, for himself and for others.
We talk openly about the tough stuff: performance pressure, mental health struggles, identity, and healing. Nick shares his story of how navigating a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder and undergoing open-heart surgery reshaped his approach to life, coaching, and endurance sports. If you’ve ever felt stuck in a perfectionist loop, battled internal critics, or wondered how to truly support the people you care about, this episode is for you. Nick’s insights on unconditional love, emotional resilience, and the power of being your full, authentic self are something I’ll carry with me—and I think you will, too.

Do you know your cognitive profile? Amber Hanna, a cognitive design consultant who’s helped me personally in ways I’m really grateful for. Amber specializes in using neuro regulation techniques—like meditation, exercise, and creating personalized environments—to help people manage ADHD, high sensitivity, and other neurodivergent conditions. In this episode, we talk about the importance of creating a supportive environment tailored to your needs, the significance of setting boundaries, and how to use sensory cues to minimize stress and maximize comfort.
Amber also dives into the value of understanding neurodiversity, and we discuss how these techniques help people find better mental well-being, productivity, and balance. I share a few takeaways from my work with Amber—like reframing periods of boredom, diving into those “boring” tasks with a new perspective, and going all-in on recovery strategies. If you’re looking for ways to improve your self-care, create a more mindful environment, or manage your mental well-being, this episode is full of great insights.
Enjoy the conversation, and check out Amber’s website, cocoonedliving.com, for more resources and consultative services!

What makes Aaron Saft different? It’s all about putting the person before the athlete. I sat down with Aaron, a seasoned endurance athlete and coach, to talk about his philosophy, and the real nuances of coaching, especially when it comes to personalized training and building strong, genuine connections with athletes. Aaron shares his approach to fueling in ultra-endurance sports and how mental preparation plays a huge role in success. We also hear some great stories, including his family’s adventure at the High Lonesome 100-mile race.
At the end of the episode, I’ve got a special segment with Steve and Brian, who talk about their involvement with the Alzheimer’s Association’s Ride to End Alzheimer’s. The 2025 event is coming up on June 8 in Fort Collins, and they share details about the event, which offers routes for all skill levels and resources for those affected by the disease

For today’s episode of the Travis Macy Show, we’re mixing it up in two parts! First, I’m giving an overview of the world of ski mountaineering, or "SKIMO" as it's often called—one of my favorite activities for building fitness and having fun in the winter. A while back I had some stellar chats with my friend Mike Hagan, who runs Hagan Ski Mountaineering, and today I’m sharing a few clips from those conversations. You’ll learn everything you need to know if you're just getting started or looking to improve your skills. Whether you're a runner, cyclist, or multi-sport athlete wanting to mix in some backcountry skiing or SKIMO racing, this conversation has you covered.
Then, in part two, I’m shifting gears to something I’ve been working hard on: my new novella, THE RUNNER. It’s coming to you in serial audiobook format from Christmas to New Year’s, and in this episode, you’ll get a preview. THE RUNNER tells the story of Carp, a middle-aged man navigating the ups and downs of life in the Rockies. With themes of endurance sports, psychology, love, loss, and more, it’s a quirky, unique tale that I’m excited to share with you. Stick around after the schema discussion to hear an AI-generated preview of the novella—I think you’ll find it fascinating!

This episode is a great one, folks—I'm joined by my buddy Henry Harris, a guy who’s got a passion for reading, running, and the outdoors. We kicked things off by talking about his love for audiobooks, and then dove into Henry’s running journey, including his impressive second-place finish at the Bear 100 endurance race.
His strategy for the race was solid—he paced himself smartly, took care of his body, and had an incredible crew of pacers like David Hedges and Barrett Bentley to help him through the tough stretches. Henry also opened up about his fueling strategy, the struggles with plantar fasciitis, and the importance of cooling strategies in the heat. Post-race, we talk recovery, mental toughness, and the value of human connection—there’s a lot to unpack here, and I think you’ll really enjoy hearing Henry’s approach to both running and life.

Ever wondered what it’s really like inside the world of professional cycling? In this episode, I sit down with Mitch Docker, former pro rider and host of the Life in the Peloton podcast, to hear about his new book, Life in the Peloton. Mitch shares fascinating insights on the importance of support networks in both cycling and life, his transition into journalism and podcasting, and his thoughts on evolving concussion protocols in the sport.
Mitch co-authored the book with his friend and former directeur sportif, Tom Southam, and it’s a fantastic read that breaks down the sport’s inner workings, team dynamics, and the journey from the peloton to the media world. Whether you're racing, training, or just an avid fan, this conversation is packed with insights that will change how you see the sport. We also hear about his upcoming projects, including commentating the Vuelta and organizing the "Dirty Docker" event in Melbourne. If you're a fan of cycling, this episode offers great stories and valuable lessons from one of the sport’s best, and you’ll definitely want to tune in.

Joel redefines intuition and shares some powerful insights about how intuition is not a one-size-fits-all concept. Plus, they discuss the often-overlooked importance of intuition for athletes and how they can balance it with analytics. This episode is all about embracing uncertainty and practicing intuition to make better decisions, both in life and in sport.
