The ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920 removed obstacles to American women exercising their right to vote, but it didn’t happen without a fight - and the final stage of that fight took place against the backdrop of World War I. Unlike their British counterparts who largely paused their activism during the war, some American suffragists redoubled their efforts during the war.
