The Voices Unheard podcast exists to illuminate and amplify the frequently unheard voices of physicians and surgeons in today’s healthcare system. These bimonthly interview discussions are uncharacteristically transparent revealing the lived experiences of under-represented medical doctors who face unthinkable workplace discrimination and harassment related to gender, sexual identity, race, ethnicity, and other intersectional identities and/or ethical values that do not ’fit” into the status quo. #001 - Dr. Miller and Dr. Blaker explain why it is important to give physicians and surgeons a platform to tell their stories of diversity, equity, and inclusion in medicine in order to cultivate change. Dr. Miller's prior work with the The Narrative Inquiry in Bioethics Symposium helped to lay the foundation for this collection of interesting stories in order to enhance advocacy and exposure for the conflicts that many face in their workplaces. In doing so, we hope to disrupt the misbelief that these issues do not exist as well as contribute to changing the narrative for future generations. Inclusivity will better serve the workforce of physicians and surgeons as well as contribute to enhanced patient outcomes.
