Heat Stress - Equitable Solutions for Vulnerable Communities
Show Notes

Athens, Melbourne, Freetown and Los Angeles share the uncomfortable honor of being the first cities to appoint a Chief Heat Officer in the fight against Urban Heat Stress. This week we share a second conversation with a Chief Heat Officer about this silent urban killer in need of equitable solutions.

Our guest is Marta Segura, director of the Los Angeles Climate Emergency Mobilization Office and Chief Heat Officer. Marta takes us back to the beginning of her career as an environmental justice advocate which began around the time she finished graduate school and has its roots in childhood experiences of displacement and environmental assaults on her community. In this podcast she shares her experience on the use of climate vulnerability assessment and public buildings as resilience hubs and the importance of involving the community in designing equitable climate solutions.
