I’m Going To Live Forever
I have a confession to make.
I believe I’m going to live forever.
What???
And . . . my best friend believes the same thing.
So, are we two delusional old farts, or are we onto something?
I think we’re onto something. But I guess only time will tell.
Now, we both believe in death. How could we not? Nobody has figured out how to cheat it yet.
But we go through our days with the attitude that we’re going to be around for a long, long time.
And I think that mindset pays dividends.
Because it keeps our focus on living, rather than dying.
Think about it. Suppose two people get some difficult health news from their doctor.
One says, “I don’t want to die.”
The other says, “I want to live.”
Which one do you think has the better mindset?
I’d put my money on the person who knows what they want – not simply what they don’t want.
Of course, tomorrow is promised to no one.
As my mother used to say, “You could trip on a Dixie Cup lid.”
So, yes, buy life insurance if it makes sense for you. But don’t spend your life worrying about the day you’ll need it.
The hypochondriac dies a thousand times.
And their gravestone reads, “See? I told you.”
A boyhood friend of mine recently died. And I remember asking him many times, while he was still healthy, what he was looking forward to.
His answer was always the same:
“Nothing.”
I encouraged him to develop the habit of looking forward to something – anything.
Even something as ordinary as an Amazon delivery.
He never really took me up on it.
And, sadly, much of the time he had left was stagnant and dark.
So maybe there’s something we can all take from that.
Make it a daily mission to have something to look forward to.
It doesn’t have to be big.
It just has to be something that pulls you toward tomorrow.
You may not live forever.
But you can make sure you live every day you’re given.
All the best,
John
