The Danger Point

There is a major danger point in life and if you’re there now, what I have to say will make no sense. But listen anyway, because it may come in handy down the line if you choose to pivot away from your precarious position.

What is the danger point? It’s when nobody can tell you what to do.

When you stop listening, you’ve entered a trap of your own making and make a habit of forsaking . . . what others have to offer.

It’s a sticking point in life that brings you to the edge of not being able to learn anything new because there’s nobody you’ll listen to.

You’ve become the “be-all” and “end-all” – the Belle of the Ball of “know-it-alls.”

The danger point is best described as being out of options. When there are no options on the table, you stick with what you know and, as a result, can’t grow.

Obstinance is your lame superpower and when you stamp your feet, others will retreat and take with them your path forward.

As you sit in your cloud of dust, your abilities begin to rust, and your language is filled with the words, “should, ought, and must.” Your directives are now just invectives and you’ve hemmed yourself into a way of life that only causes you strife.

I remember being at that point in life. Then a friend called and offered me an invite to a seminar he was conducting. His words that landed were these: “Come down to the seminar and interact with your peers of which you have none.”

His message hit me like a stun gun. Luckily, my ears were open enough to hear what he had to say, and a path to new learning began that day.

If you’re at the point where nobody can tell you what to do, you’re not at a dead end but at a crossroads. You can either pick “Danger Dead Ahead” or “Listen To Others Lane.” One leads to the same old song; the other ha s you singing a new refrain.

Choose wisely.

All the best,
John
