Opinion vs. Opinion

Like you, I have lots of opinions. And if you ask me what mine is, I’ll be happy to tell you, but not if your intent is to lure me into a debate. I can think of no bigger waste of time than debating opinions.

Opinions, by definition, are “a view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.”

My opinion is that all UFOs are made out of spaghetti. I’ve done research on Google and I’m absolutely right about this.

How often have you heard something as equally absurd? Too many times to count, I’m sure. If you choose to debate it, prepare for a battle that nobody wins.

To debate is to argue about who’s right, and as the Grasshopper reminded us many moons ago, “Some people would rather be right than happy. And preferring to be right, they are left out.”

Leave me out of the debate.

To me, opinions are like websites, every asshole has one.

If you want to debate your opinion, call a talk show, or head down to the local tavern. I’m sure there’ll be somebody there to pass opinionated air with you.

Personally, I’d rather know what you’re excited about, looking forward to, or what you love to watch on TV. But lord, spare me your opinion, and I won’t offer you mine in return.

And if you haven’t noticed yet, this is my opinion about opinions. But let’s not debate it.

Did you ever notice that debate rhymes with berate? So let the opinions abate. If that’s okay with you, mate.

All the best,

John
