The Secret To Change

I was chatting with a friend on the phone the other day and it was apparent to me that the only thing standing in their way was them. After we hung up, The Grasshopper popped in with this: “For things to change, you gotta change.”

The secret to change is you, me. What are we doing that’s keeping us on the wrong road? What actions do we mindlessly do that put us on the same path time after time?

What excuses do we trot out for our behavior that keep us running in place?

If you want to change, your actions have to change. The only person in charge of your actions is you. If you’re waiting for a fairy godmother to arrive and wave a magic wand, you’re fishing in the wrong pond.

What do you want to change? Your health, your state of mind, your station in life, or something else?

It all begins with you. 

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is nuts. So the question is: Do you have the guts, to change? 

You have the tools at your disposal. If they stay in the toolbox, your life will stay on the rocks. 

I’m reminded of a story the late Dr. Dave Dobson told. It was about a guy who was over served at a bar/restaurant and had to pee in the worst way. He was sitting at his table and chugging away on another pitcher of beer when he stopped a guy walking by his table and said, “Would you like to make 20 bucks?” The guy said, “Sure. What do I have to do?” Our tipsy guy said, “Go to the men’s room and take a piss for me.”

If you’re waiting for someone else to do it for you, it’s gonna be a lifetime of waiting. 

The secret to change is you.
