Lightning Bolt Love
The Grasshopper recently opined: “Love is like being struck by lightning.”
He must been reading The Godfather where Michael Corleone, while in hiding out in Sicily, is said to have been struck with a thunderbolt when first seeing his soon to be Sicilian bride. Writer Mario Puzo wrote this phrase: “colpo di fulmine”– Love at first sight.
Having never been struck by lightning, I can’t personally attest to love feeling that way, but it’s sure a great feeling no matter how you describe it.
It’s amazing to me how this thing we call love comes from out of the blue and visits you. There’s no mistaking the feeling. It’s not infatuation or lust; it’s love.
It can happen to you anytime, anywhere, whether you’re, as the old song says, “lookin for love in all the wrong places,” or out walking the dog.
Speaking of dogs, did you ever notice the unconditional love they give you?
I feel sorry for folks never struck by this thunderbolt and envy the ones who’ve been struck more than once.
I have two theories on love, neither one of which I can prove.
- You’ve never truly been in love until your heart’s been broken.
- If you ever loved someone, there’s still a part of you that’s in love with them.
You don’t even have to be open to the notion of love, and still get bitten by the love bug.
I hope you have the good fortune to love or have loved. It’s my wish for you.
And even though it’s a feeling that can’t be described by words, I think these lyrics from a song come close.
I wish you shelter from the storm
A cozy fire to keep you warm
But most of all, when snowflakes fall
I wish you love.
All the best,
John
