You’re Not Enough
Unless you had a stage mother or father who sang your praises to the high heavens, the message most of us received from our upbringing and culture is “we’re not enough.”
Even if we’ve achieved many of our aspirations, “we’re not enough” sits in the background ready to pipe if we start believing we’re enough.
I’m sure you’ve heard the term “Imposter syndrome.” That’s a label we buy into that’s “we’re not enough” in disguise. We don’t think we’re capable even though the factual evidence points to the contrary.
I’m not a good enough parent, husband, wife, partner, friend, or any occupation you participate in. That’s the nagging thought that keeps rearing its ugly, limiting head.
Well, it’s not enough for me or anyone else to tell you you’re enough. That message fails to register because our belief to the contrary is so ingrained.
That belief gets reinforced constantly by advertising. Just view 5 minutes of ads on any TV channel and you’ll see and hear that there’s this do-dad or that potion that will make you enough.
Enough won’t be found on the outside. It’s an inside job.
To discover your “enoughness,” you have to get to a quiet place away from all the din and clatter that tells you, you don’t matter.
When we quiet our mind, even for a short time, we bathe in the waters of enough, and soak in a sense that everything is taken care of. When we make it a practice to get quiet more often than we do, we start witnessing “enough” starting to shine through.
Don’t take my word for it; that’s not enough.
Put quiet time to the test and you’ll find out, first hand, that you get an “A” on the enough exam.
All the best,
John
