A Better Tomorrow Starts with Being Present Today
A friend once saw this quote on a church sign: “Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.” That got me thinking—how much time do we spend lost in worry about the future or stuck in regrets about the past?
The truth is, if we’re not present today, we’re just repeating the same patterns, ensuring tomorrow looks exactly like today.
The Power of Showing Up
Back in grade school, there was always an award for perfect attendance. I never thought much about it then, but now I see the lesson: when you’re absent too often, you miss out on the foundation for your future. Life starts to feel like Groundhog Day—the same thing, over and over.
If you want a different tomorrow, it starts with showing up today.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Never leave that ’til tomorrow which you can do today.” And while that’s great advice against procrastination, it also applies to being present. You can push a lot of things to tomorrow, but not this moment.
The Winning Ticket: Paying Attention
So much of our time is spent in the past or future, but the present is where change actually happens. Imagine rehearsing a speech for when you win the lottery—without ever buying a ticket.
Being present is your winning ticket.
When you pay attention to now, you start seeing opportunities you’d otherwise miss. New doors open, blind spots fade, and life becomes richer.
How to Start Being Present
Practicing presence doesn’t have to be complicated. Start by noticing something simple—like your breath. You can only breathe now, and focusing on it pulls you out of the mental loop of past regrets and future worries.
The more you do this, the more you’ll want to. You’ll realize how much better life feels when you stop living in your head and start engaging with what’s right in front of you.
So make a promise to yourself: every day, take a moment to step out of the noise and into the present.
Because a different tomorrow starts with being here—right now.
All the best,
John
