You Can’t Take The Next Step Until You Take This One
We all go through change. Some we choose, some show up uninvited. And when it does, our first instinct is usually to ask, “What’s next?”
But maybe a better question is, “What now?”
Take this common query: What are you going to do when the kids leave the nest? You might have a few ideas—but the truth is, you won’t really know until it happens. Sure, we can plan for what we think is coming, but most change doesn’t send a warning.
So when change hits, instead of jumping ahead to what’s next, start by paying attention to what’s happening now. Because now is the step that gets you to then.
That means being honest about your current reality—not what you wish it was, or what it “should” be—but what actually is. That kind of awareness gives you a solid foundation to move forward.
Most of us, when faced with change, want to escape into a plan. It feels safer. But planning for what’s next without being grounded in the present? That’s just spinning your wheels.
We want to skip the discomfort of now and leap to what’s next. But here’s the truth: you can’t skip the step you’re on. Feeling your way through it—fully—is what makes space for a real next step to emerge.
Your body knows the now. Listen to it. Feel what you’re feeling, don’t rush past it. That’s not weakness—it’s wisdom. It’s how you plan from a place of truth, not illusion.
Trying to leap ahead without facing what’s right in front of you? That’s how you stay stuck. The only way forward is through.
You can’t get to next until you take this step. And this step starts... now.
