Do Something!

Real magic happens when you do something. Doing sets off a chain of events that leads to accomplishment.

There’s a reason Nike’s slogan has lasted so long: “Just Do It.” It leads to action. “Just Think About it” insures inaction.

Doing something, instead of talking to yourself about doing something, gets actionable feedback. Whereas theoretical feedback (thinking) keeps you inactive with an infinite number of options to consider. Thinking in this case means delay . . . stalling.

When you do something, even when it doesn’t work, you become like Thomas Edison. You now know what actually won’t work. This prompts you to try something different.

But if you dedicate the lion’s share of your time to thinking rather than doing, it will lead to your goal’s undoing. Doing leads you to the next step; thinking about it gets you out of step with action.

“Look before you leap” is a maxim that’s stood the test of time, and is powerful advice. But if you forever use it as an excuse not to act, your doing will be on life support.

Getting real feedback is the magic of doing. It’s the springboard to what’s next. Thinking about doing? . . . well . . . it’s a guess at best.

So the only question left is: How soon will you get out of neutral and get your ass in gear?

All the best,

John
