Echoes Are Life’s Equalizer

You ever notice how life has a way of bouncing things back at you? Like an echo? A lot of people believe that what you put out comes back—and I’m one of them. Can I prove it? Nah. But honestly, isn’t that the case with most beliefs we hold sacred?

Here’s the real entry point to this belief system: start paying attention to what you’re putting out there. Because once you do, you’ll start to appreciate why certain things keep echoing back. You’ll also start to see a pattern—a kind of blueprint—for how to get more of the treatment you actually want.

There are a ton of rules to live by, but few are more powerful than this one: Give what you want to receive. Or, as one sacred teaching puts it: Love your neighbor as yourself.

The biggest lie we tell ourselves is that our actions don't have consequences. We think we got away with one, just because nothing happened right away. But life doesn’t always work in real-time. Sometimes the echo takes a while.

Look at O.J. Simpson. His spousal abuse went unchecked for years. Yes, he was acquitted of murder, but the echo? It came later—and loud. Thirteen years to the day after that acquittal, he was found guilty of robbery and kidnapping. The law didn’t catch up right away—but the echo got him.

Still, for many of us, the lesson of being a better human falls on deaf ears. Maybe what we need is a little “echo-education” to wake us up to the idea that what we do matters.

So here’s something worth reflecting on: if you’re tired of the same things happening over and over, maybe it’s time to ask, “What am I putting out there?”

Because the gospel truth is—what you get is tied directly to what you give. You want more love, more respect, more kindness? Then lead with it. Echoes don't lie.

One of the hardest lessons to learn is this: We are the cause of our own effect. But the good news is: when you notice what you do, and check yourself, you can change what comes back to you.

Can I get an "Amen?"

All the best,

John
