Is No One Is Cheering You On?

I don’t know about you but I’ve experienced some times in my life when no one was rooting for me. At least that’s what it felt like. I was like an athlete at the end of their career who couldn’t buy a cheer.  I have those times filed under the broad heading of “Nobody loves me.”

Have you ever felt that way, Bunky?

It’s a sad place to be.

You wonder what you did wrong to alienate those who once cheered you on. You feel like you’re on no one’s radar, not a blip on anyone’s screen.

If you stay there, your happy moments will be, at best, rare.

What to do?

I’m not sure this will work for you, but it does for me. Reach out!

Most of us retreat and get further away from the ones who used to say, “Hooray.”

Pick up the phone, send a text, invite someone out for lunch, join a group. In short, take some action that will get a reaction.

Reach out and reconnect, or make connections with somebody new. The onus is on you. No one’s gonna come knocking on your door asking you to come out and play. It’s up to you to save the day.

We can sit by ourselves and justify our feelings by assigning blame to those who used to cheer. But that strategy only leads to boredom and fear.

What do you want your future to be? Alone in the dark? Or closer to a picnic in the park?

The answer for me is clear: Invite somebody out for a beer . . .  or coffee or tea. And start building a new cheering section.

Is this a guarantee? No, I can only tell you it works for me.

All the best,

John
